Official NT dad thread: can the dads get love

Went back to work last Thursday and I feel bad leaving my wife and baby girl at home.

What did you guys to help your gf/wife when you got home from work? I know my mindset is to take care of the baby and prepare dinner, while she can rest.

She texted me today mentioned she hasn't had a chance to take a nap or eat since breakfast.

Without knowing what kind of person she is, it's easy to say that she should nap/eat when the baby is napping.  My wife is more the type to clean, do laundry, etc and not nap or eat until everything else is done, which I've learned to understand is impossible.  Unfortunately, she will have to learn for herself that the priority list has to change and she'll just figure it out eventually.  In the meantime, you will just have to be sympathetic to the situation and do whatever it is you can when you get home.  Taking care of the baby AND preparing dinner isn't always possible, so at least get good at bringing home takeout on your way back from work!

Hope all goes well homie!
Thank you.  She seems alot better today.  I even got a few smiles and babbling, which hadn't happened in several days while she was down and out.  No real appetite yet, but the doc assured us that when she is hungry she will eat, so we just keep offering her food and drink and let her decide when she's ready.

My wife is just the same way. She tries to overwork herself in getting things done around the home, when they don't necessarily have to be done at that moment. She also tends to be stubborn too. And you're right, I know I won't be able to take care of the baby and prepare dinner...But tonight is one of those nights that I'll have to.

I've considered getting one this week...But I don't know if my daughter will fit? She was born 5lbs 10oz and was 18in. long...If so, I'd love to bjorn all day...I feel like she's already comfortable sleeping on my chest after I burp her lol.

Glad to hear she's doing better today!

My son hated the bjron. He likes a swing so far thank God

I took off four weeks and thst made the world of difference. I did all the choirs, errands and dinner so she didnt have to

When i went back, shes stuck to a routine and i help in the AM and midnight feeding. I get up and do some work from home and get in around 9. Come home and she likes to cook so she gets her break and I watch him. I do "gym" time at night and we both get him ready for bed.

Nicely done. My daughter hung out in the swing pretty much all day every day until she was so big and heavy that it would barely move.

Crazy Month so far...Son got suspended for a physical altercation at school, daughter got straight A's except for a C- in PE and washing these damn sheets (potty training)..etc
Stress kicks in like Bruce lee but staying calm helps maintain my sanity. **** this **** ain't easy. But in the words of 40 water....you solid like a rock? "Yup"

Well, last night I was able to make dinner and give my wife a little break. Sleeping on 3hrs of sleep, but it's all worth it.

For a moment, I just stared to watch my daughter sleep and it was so calming that I didn't care that I was still tired.

But you guys are right...I know I won't be able to do this every night.

Man these the times you can think about how stressful single parents live's can be

Well looks like I'm joining this club soon. Gf is 12 weeks. This dr stuff though is a pain especially dealing with insurance. Secretly hoping for a boy but as long as it's healthy we're happy.

after my wife and i running ragged for the first 3 months, i was wondering the same thing man. not only that, i dropped my wife off at her mom's house for the first month so we had plenty of help. shouts to the single parents that handle their biz. mind blowing to think that some of em have twins (or more).

I think you're in Sac, so I don't know if it's available in your neck of the woods but.

1) Blue apron, helped us out for a bit...though, prep work still needed
2) Munchery may help you guys more if you're already working....good food, just heat up and go

lol, that's how it always seems to work..You always get the opposite of what you hope for..I wanted a boy so bad, but I was 100% convinced we was having a girl..Once I saw the old "rod and tackle" on the sonogram I was stunned..I made them prove he was till a boy every single time we went in for a check up cause I just couldn't believe I got that lucky..:smokin

NT dads whats your take on games

I always felt like playing videogames made me a lot smarter. I was born in 91.

I had a ps1 and the various gameboys. Between final fantasy, pokemon, crash bandicoot, etc. i did a ton of reading and I also was overcoming losses and challenges figuring out how to beat games between 6-11 years old. loved gta 3 and vice city in the 3rd through 6th grade and i turned out okay.

I feel like games are a little different today. a bit more addicting. maybe too realistic or graphic. when do you guys think is too soon? what about mobile games? do you guys have strategies to regulate or decide on rules. I was thinking of maybe graduating the exposure shifting from old games and systems to new ones before blasting the young brain with that data overload.

Im cool off letting him play it. My friend works for an optometrist and she says more and more kids are coming in and having vision problems because they are glued to their iPad/iPhone/etc.

When we were kids, you had to turn on the tv to play video games, it wasn't as accessible as it is now like for today's kids. They got games on everything with a screen. You once had to sit 5 feet away from the tv screen. Now you hold the damn screen inches from your face.

My issue is more with having vision problems.
