The EXTs are made with casual wear more in mind. I'd recommend getting a regular Kobe 8 with the EM upper if you really want a pair to ball in.

I wonder how Nike is going to end the Kobe 8 line. KD V ended with the WTKD. Lebron X ended with the Champ Pack. With the WTKobe's having a supposed early December release date and the supposed Xmas 2.0, it's going to get interesting to see what they end with.
