OFFICIAL NFL THREAD 2024-25: Week XVI “Merry Christmas ya filthy animals”

Ehh you’re speaking for yourself though. That’s not the majority. I’m in Houston and know most attended that game for Beyoncé half time show and dipped after. NBA on Christmas has been a staple like NFL on thanksgiving. Especially when NBA schedules marquee matchups.

The same LeBron James who once famously complained about the NBA having games on Christmas is now complaining about another league running games on Christmas.

Pick a lane.
Feel like he’s played enough Christmas Day games at this point, his lane has been chosen.

The NFL ran a Taylor Swift and Beyonce game, where both had playoff implications, on a streaming platform, which eliminated the ability to cut back and forth from cable tv (GENIUS MOVE) and will most likely far exceed NBA viewership

The NBA has ran into the issue of the games don't matter and the game with the 2 most notable stars was the last game

No to mention a team going for a three peat and the potential MVP.

The league and Netflix really cooked today.

I mean nba is openly talking and making changes in an attempt to try to get people more interested in the regular season

Outside of doing the actual obvious in moving the start date, reduce the number of games to probably the 60-65 range and space them out to give teams rest and time to actually prepare for matchups

Whereas the chiefs locked up the conference and the ravens and Steelers needed to win in their division race and to get a home game in the playoff.. plus lamar being in the mvp race.. games might not have been great, but they mattered

I’m glad the Celtics lost.. but the notification about luka probably the most meaningful takeaway from today.. and I guess 6ers winning since the conference is that bad they still have a chance at the playoffs and moving up the seeding

Your halftime show can’t be bigger than your actual game🤷‍♂️

If this was some of these meaningless games we’ll get in the next couple weeks, I’d get this

But chiefs had to win to clinch the conference.. afc north isn’t clinched.. and lamar put the MVP back in question

If mahomes gotta play with whatever the deal was with his ankle, the game mattered.. and vs a Steelers team with a chance at a home game in the playoffs

That’s an actual event though. The finale of a season. This is a regular season game.
No sir.

It is now an event.

The NFL are masters at making their products into events.

Remember how the draft used to be?

Buncha die hards packed in an NYC theatre

Then Rog turnt it up and now you’d think The Weeknd was in town.

The 82 games is fine. The NBA should just start the season earlier. Instead of a late October opening date, start in late August. Those dudes are not going to take a pay cut. There was nothing wrong with the 82 games 20 years ago, now all of a sudden players can’t do 82. Nah, just start a month or month and a half earlier

Watching games on Peacock, Amazon, or Netflix is actually annoying for the “regular” viewer wouldn’t consider it a win.

My mom calls every Thursday and says I can’t find the game what channel is it on :lol :{. Yesterday the same thing and had to give her some Netflix credentials.

Make a 9 month season, 10 months?

Oct to June should be Sept to June? (Or late Aug???)

Have your NBA season be in direct week to week comp with the NFL from week 1 thru Feb? :lol

NFL getting tight with the streaming platforms is them accommodating the new “regular.” Caught an interview with the former NFLPA head, De Smith, and he brought up a good point. The “cord only” population is either dying or converting to “cord cutters”. But theres now a whole new generation of “cord nevers” the NFL wants to reach.

He also said every single owner is a terrible human being

Nah I think they should start middle or 3rd week of December.. or hell even Christmas week

And then finish in august.. also gotta do something to change the game up from all these teams chucking up 3s all game

On the contrary. I’ve been thinking the NBA should start the season on Christmas. It was so cool when they did that in 2011 due to the lockout.

Do a full 82 game season. You can do the all star game in April. There’s better weather in April than it is in February which makes it more appealing to do it in markets which are usually cold in February.

Start the playoffs in June and have the finals end in late August. I thought it was cool watching the finals in July in 2021 because the season started in December due to all the Covid stuff.

But from late June to early September there’s nothing on sports wide aside from MLB once the NBA finals and Stanley Cup finals finish in June. Seeing NBA finals games in August would be cool in my opinion.
