I feel like those controls are going to be hard as ****... How you gonna have the stick do crossovers AND shoot?

I feel like those controls are going to be hard as ****... How you gonna have the stick do crossovers AND shoot?

They had that last year

unless Im missing something

There was a button that had to be held to shoot but now there isnt one so holding the stick to long in a direction by mistake can pull up for a jumper

that sounds all off :smh:

As long as I can revert back to last years controls Im good..2k doing too much

i really don't like how 2K changes the controls every year.. relearning controls every year because 2k needs to add something to the list of things they 'did' :smh:

NBA 2K14 Player Signature Skills List: thereal2kinsider.blogspot.com/2013/09/nba-2k14-player-signature-skills-list.html

OK, so I'm practically a casual player when it comes to this game, but I played online for the first time with 2K13 and got smoked :x in Hall of Fame mode ; with me picking up the new game on Tuesday, what are some of your best practices used that I could utilize to build my skills to be competitive in the online realm (sliders, game mode, difficulty, etc.). In other words, WHAT IS THE consensus when playing. Example: I normally play All-Star with the sliders unchanged at 50 (I think the default of the game).

Per Rashidi, maybe you all will believe him when he says it
In 2K Sports point guard formula, they typically place too much value on defense and not enough value on scoring ability, which is how players like Rondo and Jrue Holiday can rate so highly above Tony Parker who was CLEARLY a top three PG last season.

Shooting guard ratings are basically all over the place. 2K puts a high emphasis on ball-handling in order to pump up the values of superstar SGs. What that creates is an uneven playing field among role players, where teams value players who bring defense and 3pt shooting like Courtney Lee, Danny Green, and Thabo Sefolosha over inefficient volume scorers like Jordan Crawford, Shannon Brown, or ugh, Austin Rivers.

As with the SG position, "3 and D" players generally get the shaft at small forward, even though the league is shifting in that direction more than ever. SFs in general are the highest rated players in NBA 2K since they are generally well-rounded.

It looks like most stretch-fours get the shaft again, getting decreased even further than they already were. I speculate it relates to increased importance of the block rating, as David Lee and Paul Millsap also take some hits. Among the top PFs just about everyone went down while only shot blocking Derrick Favors went up.

Fluctuation in free agent center ratings seem to suggest that block rating is more important than ever for a center's overall rating. Post up game sadly matters a great deal even though that responsibility is shifting to other positions (Tyson Chandler was an all-star and only posted up 19 times last season).

1. First of all, spend a lot of time in Training Camp mode learning the controls.

2. Sign up over at the OperationSports forums. A lot of tutorial threads are floating around there for your help.
This thread is from 2K12 but the same principles will apply in 2K14 for sure: http://www.operationsports.com/forums/nba-2k/516019-defensive-help-thread-2k12-3.html

3. Run plays on offense. What is usually your method of scoring? What do you usually do?

I saw Steve's twitter post about the top 10 ranked teams. As many of you know I use the Pacers and I was pleasantly surprised to see the Pacers ranked number 3 in the game according to that tweet.

I however rank teams differently than the game does.

What I like to do is to rank the teams based on how many guys on each team are over 90, over 80, over 70, over 60 and over 50. This year I added how many sigs each team had. That's one area the Pacers sorely lack in that they only have 14 where the Celtics with 12 guys in the 70 and under category have 24.

The effect of sigs is debatable but having played the game for hours and hours against some tough competition think they have more value than they don't and certainly a top rated player filled out with sigs is better than a top ranked player without sigs.

I didn't rank by sigs except as a tie breaker.

Once I have ranked the teams I like to put the teams in order of ease of use. I think it's probably understood that it's going to be a lot easier to win with the Heat with 2 guys over 90 and 1 over 80 than it would be to win with the Sixers who don't have anyone in that class.

In general a 90 guy is easier to use than a 70 rated guy. A novice can play easier with the higher rated guy because you can pretty much use him with any play style. A 70 rated guy to get full out of him might need more study and it might take a hall of fame level player to use that guy to his maximum.

With that in mind, I group the teams based on how easy or hard I think they are to use and therefore how easy or hard it will be to win with them.

Also what this means is that if you are new to the game, it might be better to start with an elite team to figure out to play because it will cover up more mistakes you make. As you get better, obviously that doesn't matter as much.

But one of my laws is that with two guys of equal skill, the guy with the higher rated team will probably win. If you take a hall of fame level 2K'er who uses the Sixers and he plays against a hall of fame level 2K'er who uses the Heat and he probably won't win.

So that's some of my philosophy on team strength. Obviously, this over simplifies it because there are some intangibles that come into play that aren't figured in the individual ratings and of course it's not perfect science. Arguments can be made that this team is better than that one.

But it's a good place to start.

After I rank the teams like this one other thing I like to do is start playing the worst team on hall of fame mode vs the CPU and beat it and move up the ladder.

Also ratings change so this will be different over the course of the year especially with the new Dynamic Rating system coming into play.

With that here are my team ratings for NBA2K14 based on the player ratings posted in the video the other day.

Besides the pictures posted i really see no point in that quote beating the heat on rookie is not even close to being the worst team on HOF

3. Run plays on offense. What is usually your method of scoring? What do you usually do?

That's my problem and it's something I've tried to avoid, but I guess I do need to start running plays, instead of taking the ball down court with the PG and then looking for the open man. That CPU gets hip to it after a while and the men start to throttle like a cell phone maxing out its data plan.

Thanks for the help :smokin
