is it me or is the menu presentation too flashy/busy? I always preferred the simple menus and my stats/options being easily obtained. In that pic up there, it looks more arcadeish if you know what I mean. But as long as the gameplay is improved I can overlook the that gaudy menu presentation.

I somewhat agree about Rivers overall rating but it may be a case where that doesn't translate to how good he actually is in game.
