coach is easier to replace than players, but byron got got from day 1 he was setup to fail once bron bolted. On the other hand though he had to know what he was getting into when izzo didnt want to take over as coach as well.

Care to put a friendly $20 paypal on this? I'll go with the sweep.

I definitely would but I don't even have PayPal.

A 7 game playoff in basketball is a whole nother game then the regular season. Those scrappy defensive teams that play hard all the time and have some players that could really break out on to the scene are the ones you have to look out for in the first round. Plus you gotta add in the fact that you have two guys that can create their own shot and go off in Monta and Jennings, and that Larry Sanders and Henson have been playing really, really good. Sanders, Henson, Dalembert, Udoh, Pryzbilla, Gooden, Ayon....that's a lot of guys to beat the **** out of LeBron and Wade driving down the lane. Guarantee we see some ejections in this one.

Can't believe the Cavs just fired Byron Scott.

What the hell was he expected to do with that roster and all those injuries? Eastern Conference Finals appearance?

Gimme a break Dan Gilbert.
mean.gif
For real, when will he get a chance to coach a team that doesn't suck
Same thing I just told to a buddy of mine. He got a very raw deal. Front offices want coaches to work miracles with teams nowadays and when it doesn't happen the coach is the odd man out

Byron Scott getting fired? This guy has gotten a raw deal everywhere hes been
Same exact phrasing I used two days ago when the rumor came out. He doesnt deserve this man, I swear if they ever gave him a good team to coach he would work wonders.

I'm kinda happy for Byron though, because we all know he was set up to fail by the idiot Gilbert.

He probably DIdnt wanna be there, but the guy is full of class. He's been there for 3 years without one complaint, even with the injuries and horrible front office decisions being made.

He deserves a better job, and now he can hopefully get one.

I wish he was coaching us instead of _'Antoni :{

The National Basketball Association 2013 Playoffs begin next Saturday, April 20th, so we figured that this was a good time to release the loyalty rankings for NBA teams from our 21st annual Brand Keys Sports Fan Loyalty Index.

Those of you who have loyally followed the Brand Keys Sports Fan Loyalty Index will remember that it was designed to help professional sports team management identify what drives fan loyalty in their home and national markets, with insights that enable league and team management to identify areas, particularly the emotional ones, that need strategic brand coaching.

While only 16 of the 30 NBA teams will make the playoffs – eight from each conference – Brand Keys assesses all teams by interviewing fans from the teams’ own DMAs, which provides an apples-to-apples comparison of the intensity with which fans (within a team’s DMA) support the home team versus corresponding loyalty values for fans of other teams or other leagues in that market. Currently the 2013 NBA top-5 and bottom-5 brand standings are as follows:

Top-5- 2013                                 2012

1. Miami Heat                                 (#6)

2. San Antonio Spurs                    (#1)

3. New York Knicks                       (#10)

4. Boston Celtics                            (#2)

5. Oklahoma City Thunder/

Brooklyn Nets                                (#5 and #14)

Bottom-5 2013                          2012

30. Charlotte Bobcats                   (#30)

29. Sacramento Kings                   (#29)

28. Minnesota Timberwolves      (#27)

27. Washington Wizards              (#26)

26. Cleveland Cavaliers                (#22)

Win-loss ratios may be the only thing when it comes to a conference or playoff championship, but when it comes to loyalty it’s not the only thing. There are three other emotionally-based factors that must be taken into account.” The four emotional drivers of fan loyalty, and their overall contribution are:

Pure Entertainment:

How well a team does, sure. But even more importantly than a win-loss ratio, how exciting is their play?

Authenticity:

How well they play as a team.

Fan Bonding:

Are there players who are particularly respected and admired?

History and Tradition:

Is the game and the team part of fans’ and community rituals, institutions and beliefs?

The NBA currently ranks 3rd of the four Major League Sports that Brand Keys tracks. The National Football League is currently 1st followed by Major League Baseball. Perhaps not surprisingly, the National Hockey League comes in last this year. Overall team rankings – no matter which league – correlate with viewership and licensed merchandise sales, and since rankings can be influenced depending upon how loyalty drivers are managed, it’s critical that team marketers act as strategically off the court as the coaches do on the court.

It was NBA great, Phil Jackson, who noted, “Not only is there more to life than basketball, there’s a lot more to basketball than basketball.” The “lot more” he was referring to are what drive teams and what drives real fan loyalty too. For teams with emotional team measures it’s always a win-win.”

The Bucks aren't really a defensive team, they were below average last year and slightly above average this year. I could see Miami getting bored and losing a game but beyond that it's tough to see them losing more than 1.

Well Jason Kidd hated him when he was in Jersey and basically said he did nothing for them. :lol

Truth. How about Byron coaching the Wolves if Adelman really goes ahead and retires this offseason? He's really good with PGs, he could help Rubio improve more quickly. Or how about Portland? Lillard gon' learn alot from him.

cant be serious

this came from the onion right

sac/seattle should give him a call. lots of young talent. maybe he can get demarcus to focus. have to figure out ownership first

I think the only active coaches that can prolly have a chance straightening up DMC would be Pops and Doc. If Jerry Sloan and Phil are still active, I'll throw them in that list too.

Byron Scott deserved the axe. Team wasn't getting any better, especially defensively. How many free years you gonna give him?

That's pretty much completely wrong. Harden is one of the most efficient scorers in the league, he's the complete opposite of a chucker or extreme volume guy. He averaged 17 points on just 10 shots last year, 26 points on just 17 shots this year. Here is the list of guys who've scored as efficiently while having as high of a usage rate as he did this year. Even if you take just the last 2 months, his TS% is still over 60, right in line with his average for the season. And Allen mentioned this a few days ago, getting to the line as often as he does is a skill. That's by design.

14 of his last 21 games he's shot at 40% or lower. That's Volume dude. He's struggled with his shot.

Byron has been fired so many times. He should take some time away from the game. Mike Brown back to Cleveland? 8o

It's not like any other coach could have done done a better job, the team is terrible...

I guess it will depend on how this playoff run goes, but I wonder if the Clippers will talk to Scott if they don't don't get as far as they'd like. If they get to the conference finals or finals, I don't see how the don't re-sign VDN. But if its a first or second round exit, I think a new coach will be brought in. I think Scott is an upgrade over Del Negro. Maybe not a huge upgrade though.

Interesting idea, I think as long as CP3 likes Byron, he's definitely going to be an upgrade over VDN.

I think CP likes him - he played for him before in NO. But I also have a vague recollection of reports of tension between them when they were together before.
