So should Hughes be in the pen or a starter?

He's done the SAME EXACT thing Joba did.... dominate in the pen, not so good as a starter

I'm just saying, something needs to be done at this point.

Maybe use Aceves, he's shown throughout this season how reliable he can be when given the opportunity.

Minus that one outing in Texas, the appearance against Boston. I have no problem using Aceves instead.

Because if you think about it.... assuming Hughes keeps pitching well.... we got TWO of the same type of dudes.... Joba AND Hughes
And seeing as Wang has either sucked or been injured.... at least 1 if not 2 of them have to start (which they wouldn't do having both of them start Idon't think).... unless we traded for a SP, which doesn't seem likely

Hughes to SP and Joba to the Pen. Like it should have been all along. There's a reason Hughes was considered the #1 prospect 2 years ago. Joba was nevercompared to a Clemens, or any other SP like it. Hughes has a more diverse pitch selection as well. Joba isn't Joba with a 92 MPH 4seamer.

People are jumping the gun on Joba though in my opinion....
He hasn't even been a SP for ONE full year yet
Joba's (limited) career as a SP

27 starts
146.3 IP
139 H
65 BB
147 K

3.38 ERA

That's less then a hit an inning... a strike out per inning.... and a GOOD ERA

Granted he has had his share of struggles this year but he's 23 years old & hasn't even been a starter for a full year yet
Even with a 4.04 ERA though... that's good for 23rd in the AL, there are 14 teams in the AL.... if each team has 1 "ace".... that's 9"non-ace" pitches left.... and I'm sure you guys don't think Joba is a #2 starter... but his ERA would argue otherwise (granted he needs toincrease his IP)

Hey, either way.... Joba will be in the pen once the playoffs come & our pen will be LIGHTS OUT with Mo, Joba, Hughes, Ace, Bruney, Coke

Dude pitches walks like no tomorrow. He can't do that. He has to learn to pitch to contact instead of trying to blow people by with a 92 MPH FB. And unlessthey let him get his old delivery where he was pushing 97-100 MPH when he's in the Pen. Then he might of become an above average Pen guy too. Forget hisits look at his WHIP. It's 1.4, which isn't Ace materials, sorry.

Joba really needs to be in the bullpen. I'm not feeling him as a SP. Let him be that bridge to Mo Rivera, and plug Phil Hughes in the starting rotation.

this is amazing this thread is FULL of people jumping the gun Don't worry, I was just trying to provoke you. Its all good.

We shouldn't start Hughes while Wang is out; as much as I love the kid's game there's no reason to mess with a good thing. I don't rememberexactly who said it on the YES telecast yesterday (mostly because I half-tune those guys out because of their homer-ish tendencies) but they made a good pointwhen they said that moving Phil from the rotation to the bullpen, only to move him BACK into the rotation again wouldn't do him any good. What if hedominates in the starts that he makes? Then again arises the issue of whether he should have a permanent spot in the rotation and we begin this discussion thatwe constantly have about Joba again. In other words, why mess with a good thing? He's found some confidence in stuff because he has been absolutely lightsout (1.38 ERA in June

). It also doesn't hurt to have him available in the pen to eat some innings should somebody have a bad start. It just doesn'tmake sense to shove him back into the rotation for a couple of starts and then banish him to the bullpen again - let him become accustomed to his role, make adecision (in the rotation or in the bullpen) and STICK WITH IT.

Aceves should fill the hole in the rotation; if he didn't prove yesterday that he can give us 5 maaaybe 6 solid innings then I don't know whatelse he has to prove.

TRUE STORY..

But I say keep Ace in the bullpen too...

WE WANT PEDRO! Wang going limp could be a blessing in disguise..

Being effective in the bullpen does not make you a starter.

Just look at the guy who pitched yesterday.

QFT. Papelbon tried it and it didnt work for him either. It takes something special to be a good starter. Its much easier to have a 1, 2, 3inning when you are coming in at the end of the game and it is the first time everyone is seeing you that day. But its a whole nother (yea I said whole nother)thing to have to get guys out after they have seen you 3-4 times already that day.

You can't be serious with Pedro? The day Yankee fans cheer for Pedro in pinstripes is the day Cashman dies.
