OFFICIAL LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 2024-2025 SEASON THREAD

Was talking with a friend about this and saw it online, which I agree with.

I think Blake has to (and will start to this season) shoot more 3's. CP said blake is doing it in practice, I hope to see it more during the games.

Diving into the numbers, last year he shot 38% on long 2's, (although he obviously missed a billion games) and in 14'-15' he shot like 40% on long 2's. This is kind of  bad. Most people hear that "Long 2's are the worst shot in basketball" but are now reciting it without realizing why it's bad.

It's great that he's expanding his range, but with Luc and DJ in the starting lineup, it only benefits himself and LAC as a team if he takes a couple of steps back and starts to shoot 3's. Relative to the rest of the league, no one really shoots well enough from this range to shoot these as much as Blake does, (With the exception of CP, who's shooting 46% from this range over the past two seasons. 45% would be considered "elite" for reference)

Like my man Lucas pointed out, even if Blake shot 30% from 3's and all his long 2's turned into 3's, (a 10% drop off imo would be unlikely, and that's HUGE) he would still be getting .921 PPP as opposed to .814 PPP that he's getting from those long 2's. That's a huge jump and the threat that he would actually shoot it changes the Clips dynamic big time.

You don't watch broad city? Funny *** show and Ilana could get that work :hat

Clippers are Trying to Make Their Incredible Offense Quicker, Scarier

The Los Angeles Clippers, despite all of their postseason faults, have been one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the NBA since Chris Paul joined them in late 2011. Even without having Blake Griffin for the majority of the season in 2015-16, the Clippers still finished sixth in the NBA in offensive rating and that was in the same year in which they became one of the best defensive teams in the NBA (tied for fourth). But that doesn't mean the Clippers don't believe they should be better offensively.

In fact, they also want to be quicker offensively than they were last season. Their offensive success was great, but they feel they didn't put enough pressure on opposing defenses. This season, Doc Rivers wants Paul and company to get the ball across half court much quicker than they have been and get much more ball movement into their sets. With their weapons and a commitment to doing this, they could rival the Golden State Warriors as the best offense in the league. From Dan Woike of the Orange County Register:

Rivers said the Clippers are trying to get the ball into the offensive end faster (they were second-slowest a year ago), and they're trying to add even more motion to their offense.
"To think that we were seventh in the league in scoring and one of the last to get it across halfcourt," Rivers said. "We were playing with a low clock every single time down the floor. That doesn't mean you have to play at a better pace - just start the offense sooner. The year before, we did that and we were No. 1 on offense. We have to get back to do that.
"... We just have to trust the pass more, overall, as a whole group. And, we can't stand as much. We do move the ball, but we don't move bodies. We have to move both."

Clippers want that offense moving much more than it was.If you've watched even one Clippers game in the past five years, you've definitely see the inbounder roll the ball up the court and Paul act like the Secret Service letting the ball get as far as possible without touching it while making sure the defender doesn't get to it either. It's called "walking the dog" and CP3 does it more than any player in the NBA. It allows the Clippers to save on the shot clock and maximize a possession, but it also keeps them from getting right into their offense. The defense has every opportunity in the world to set against his team in the half court.

The Clippers speeding things up and having Griffin return to the lineup at full strength should make them one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA. In Paul's first two years with the Clippers, they finished fourth both seasons in offensive rating. From 2013-15, the Clippers finished as the best offensive team in the NBA both of those seasons, even better than the Warriors. Regardless of what they do in the postseason, this team will be a monster offensively. But if they don't make it to at least the conference finals this season, it'll still feel like an empty accomplishment for them in the regular season.

I've been asking to get into the offense quicker for three years now. Hopefully it's not all talk.

Will be tough. CP loves walking / trotting the ball up the floor and playing in the half. Coach JP once told me "The thing with CP is he tries to move as little as possible on the floor"

But I 100% agree with you. No reason for an offense as potent as ours to be playing against the clock so much. It's actually exciting to think about us actually playing faster. Easy actions and options for Blake, DJ, JJ hitting off of rubs quickly, etc. would be awesome if it wasn't "all talk" but I gotta see it to believe it.

Speed it up, speed it up! Play on instinct and not thinking in crunch time. Speeding it up will help that too.

Gonna put some money on the over win total in Vegas. 53 games? 5 over .500?

Nah. A healthy clippers squad can win 60 easy. Imo

Woah..that seems like easy money to me

- Blake's three ball looked extremely impressive and easy today. Went 2/3 from beyond. Him, Wes, and CP stood out.

Definitely don't want Blake to over-do it with the 3s, but if he can reliably knock down 2 or 3 per game it will make him pretty hard to defend.

How did Andersen look? Always curious about the new competitors for our permanently open 3 position.

Alan Anderson looked extremely solid. Looked healthy which was important. I can't see him finding any minutes on this team though.

Brandon Bass looked great. I'm very excited about Bass. Can not stress enough how great Wes Johnson looked yesterday man. He's the best 3 on the team.

Raymond Felton looked really good as well. He's better than Austin Rivers and how Doc handles the Felton/Rivers/Crawford will go a long way towards how potent our bench will be. Because while Felton is better than Rivers we need Rivers on the floor due to his talent as a defender. I may be in the minority but it is not all gas by Doc when it comes to Austin's defense. It's legit. And if he goes into this season playing how he's been playing since xmas, having austin and raymond on the floor together can only help.

I anticipate the 2nd unit initially being Rivers/Crawford/Johnson/Bass/Speights but I will be 100% surprised if Speights makes it to the AS break still in the rotation. I fear that his weaknesses are glaring, and he's basically spencer hawes. Unless he shoots 3's at a 35%+ clip, it won't be worth playing him.

Could totally see the 2nd unit end up being Felton/Crawford/Rivers/Johnson/Bass, and i'm okay with this.

I'm a bit anal with our offensive sets, so i'm looking forward to see what little new wrinkles that doc and co. have thrown in.

That, Blake's shooting and overall movement, and not getting hurt is what I'm trying to see tonight.

Still the first preseason game against a 73 win team that added durant. Obviously, they are incredibly sharp and we are not.

If we're playing like this in a week i'll be worried. This is just embarrassing, but it isn't an indictment.
