Doc really loyal to Jamal man . Like others have said, Jamal is a world class NBA citizen. Great guy. Great locker room guy. Wise veteran...but it's time to either cut the cord, or diminish his role.
That super 6th man microwave role hasn't been effective since Manu in '07. And Manu's ball movement, ability to get to the line, and defense made him a lot more than that.
Bench lineups that feature ball movement, spacing and defensive versatility is what works today. Jamal's game doesn't fit.
And if Doc doesn't learn how to stagger....I like Doc as a coach. Underrated offensive coach. But his lineup management leaves a lot to be desired.
According to NBA dot com, Austin Rivers is holding opponents to 36.2% shooting when he's guarding them. They shoot 42.1% when he does not.
Since he's gotten to LA he's really put forth the effort on Defense. His mechanics defensively aren't the best, but he really competes on that end. Was competing big time last week guarding steph and klay down the stretch.Opponents are just 4-of-19 (21.1%) from three when Rivers is guarding them, down from their normal 34.6% mark when he isn't the defender.
Is Paul Pierce's "clutchness" and three point shooting good enough to sacrifice the other end of the floor? I'm not so sure. I understand you want Paul in the game in crunch time, but you have Wesley Johnson and Lance Stephenson who can be just as if not more capable than PP from a duality perspective. And if it isn't PP then Doc has Jamal out there closing the game out. Lance and Wes have got to play more important minutes. They are helping us and we lowkey need them. It'll be interesting to watch this develop and play out.Opponents are shooting 52.8% against Paul Pierce. It's 66.7% on non-threes.

Yup Yup. By the way CP has been updated to probable, so hopefully that means he's on tap to play tonight. That's encouraging about Austin, but he needs to play much better offensively than he did against the Rockets if CP is going to be out for more time. I'm hoping for a better performance from him tonight.
Pierce joints are extremely skewed. He doesn't play much for one, but I honestly don't know. Just saw that and nabbed it and put it in here. Whenever he's in the game and we play him at the 4 though, from an eye test perspective we struggle big time with the rebounding. But its far too early to bail on PP. It's only 6 games. But we were a bad rebounding team last year, so that is something to keep an eye on. PP Made a huge 3 in the 4th against the Rockets. The Crawford experiment though has to stop.I would like to dive a littler deeper into Pierce's stats. Was he guarding Barnes when he went off? Idk, I feel like those stats may be a little skewed this early. Maybe, I'm wrong. How many FGA/3PA are we talking about in those percentages?
Also, can someone pull up Austin's layup numbers this year? I feel like he's gotten better this year at finishing at the rim. The floater still looking awful though.
Hope we put a beating on Memphis tonight
Im not the coach.
But there's no way they thought fouling Memphis up 3 was a good idea. Come on this isnt rocket science. Worst three point shooting team in the league, let them try and make a three instead of us giving them two points and putting the pressure on ourselves to make free throws and inbounds the ball. They aint the damn warriors
5 of our first seven though I'll take it
Doc Rivers is over coaching his *** off this season and it's such a shame because some of the sets he runs are gorgeous.
Literally hacking dwight and Clint for no reason, fouling the grizzlies when we're up three, not staggering the lineups, (until tonight) just terrible decisions from doc.
However, that being said we weren't supposed to be a finished product at the beginning of the season. Those things hopefully will be ironed out. It's just good that we aren't sacrificing wins in the process of figuring things out.
Was debating with my brother about the exact same thing lol I think he finally got it and is coming around to staggering. He says it was only because they were monitoring CP's minutes. I didn't agree with that though because CP played like 33 minutes, which is par for the course for him so hopefully he got the memo.Sometimes I catch myself taking his out of bounds plays for granted until I see some of the plays other teams make coming out of timeouts
You guys think last night was an anomaly or has Doc finally realized keeping one of Blake or CP3 on the court for at least 45 minutes a game is necessary.
Im loving that we're 5-2 and we're shooting like ****. Once those open 3's start falling...:
