They were rejected by Def Jam because they weren't going to clear all the samples Krit used on those tapes. Basically DJ was too cheap to pay for the licensing.
If you pay attention you'll notice that Live From the Underground is far less sample heavy than Krit's normal work. R4 and Krit Wuz Here used a ton of samples and LFTU only had a couple.
that's what I figured. Def Jam wasn't behind his project. He might as well have stayed indie like Spitta
