I have 2011 Playoffs, besides the shape they were one of the retroes that weren't too bad in quality.

No one really liked the Chutneys back when they dropped (at least in NYC) but I remember people my age saying they were okay but didnt really like them that much. With that said Chutneys became a thing when they dried up and it was rare to see someone wearing them.

This same thing happened with Indiglo XIV's (even though folks liked these a lot more than Chutneys) which is why when they retro'd, the Indiglo's were sitting.

Yeah, Chutney's were considered wack. They're one of if not the worst OG colorway on a Jordan IMO.

but people are doing this sometimes with prior releases which were sometimes superior in their construction.

I extra never got it when people would do this with DS sneakers either.

Yeah, I see both sides of the coin.

Realistically most of us have more than enough kicks to last us through the next batch of retros without having to crack the previous version.
With that said, construction quality may decrease but "visual appeal" or "attention to detail" will lure most of back in.....correct color shade, shape, or nike air.
