Official 2023 San Francisco Giants Off-Season Thread - Jung Hoo Lee signs with SF 6-years $113 Million

Going to the yard on Friday. That should provide an adequate boost to the team.

Nice outing by timmy... watch us give him an extension :{

There are a lot of bad baseball teams out there to be the first to be no hit is really telling.

Really time to look ahead and see what you have as far as a future ie Belt, Pablo and Pence and Scutaro is the short term.

Thank God I'm going to Vegas next week this **** is irritating.

Wake me up when they start playing good baseball. Not worth three hours of my time anymore.

That's fine but wake me up when were playing better ball. Makes you sound like a fair whether fan!

At the rate we're going reaching 70 wins would be a light miracle.

This should serve as a vital lesson to all of us, don't ever let anyone tell you there's a surplus or logjam at any position and that platooning is a bad idea.

Two guys at work stop by my desk all the time to talk s*** about the Giants.  Its been more an every day occurrence for the last couple of weeks now.  I just do not understand why A's fans have such a hatred for the Giants and us fans.

Caught the team in Toronto about a month ago since I'm traveling there for work

WTF at getting blasted like 8 - 0 by the Blue Jays :x

Worst thing is the defense, or lack thereof

But I'm expecting another hot streak to end the season to catapult into the postseason :lol

Some of the A's fans that I've encountered seem to like hating the Giants more than they enjoy watching the A's.

As an A's fan, not afraid to admit a lot of the hate for Giants' fans comes from jealousy. Can't be too upset with all the "new" Giants' fans gloating, it comes with success. The same would happen if the A's win another world series. Most legit Giants' fans I chop sports with at work, although happy with the team's recent success, still talk about the one that got away in '02 or the tough break in '93. As for the organization, I hate the Giants, Jeremy Giambi level type hate, with the San Jose issue being the biggest reason why. I already know that the good faith gesture made by Haas was made to the Giants' previous ownership and that current ownership owes nothing to the A's and are rightfully looking out for their own interests. Its just tough, like your neighbor needed land to build a new home, gave him some land out of good will and he ends up selling it to his boy. Now you need some land to build a new home and you ask your new neighbor for some land and he says "Na, I'm cool" :{ All Giants' fans I know can care less if they A's are allowed to move to SJ, wouldn't affect their allegiance. It is a business I guess. On a brighter note, at least we got 95.7 The Game now. :lol

I hope they don't leave Oakland! I go to maybe 8/9 A's games since I live in the Walnut Creek area and if they move to SJ I doubt I'll see any games.

Because the Giants are trying to force the A's out of the Bay Area. I realize none of you believe this but look up the Sac Bee interview with that potential A's owner, he says it himself.

Can't stand A's fans but I'd hate to see them leave. It would suck knowing I won't be able to watch an AL team if I feel like it unless it's interleague play.

How much money did the A's invest in San Jose before they gave it away and how much have the Giants invested since? Serious question. I don't know the answer.

A few things....

One....I too would really  hate to see them leave the Bay Area.  I love baseball and when the A's are in the playoffs, not only do I try to go to a game or two, I actually root for them.

Two....The Giants are trying to "force the A's out of the Bay Area?"  Can you provide a link?  I know we are trying to prevent them from moving to San Jose, but I have never once read anything that says the Giants want them gone completely.  I think them building a new stadium in the East Bay would be more than fine.  But hey, if you can show me something that proves otherwise, I am all ears.

And three....fans of the Oakland A's have hated the Giants and our fans FAR before this whole stadium thing has happened.  So while that MAY be the case that YOU hate the Giants strictly because they are blocking the A's from moving to San Jose, please dont act as if that is the primary reason A's fans hate the Giants/fans.  Because it has been going on for far longer than this stadium debate has.

but dland, he did say it stems from jealously.
I don't think he listed SJ as a primary reason...rather one of HIS reasons. :lol

I'm sorry, I can't provide a link to a quote from a Giants official explicitly stating that the Giants want the A's out of the Bay Area. But I can provide the link to that article that I mentioned earlier:

http://www.modbee.com/2010/01/23/1019702/piccinini-reflects-on-as-deal.html

More likely, Piccinini suspects the San Francisco Giants ownership had a hand in convincing Selig to make sure the deal never materialized, especially since Selig has called the A's move from Kansas City to Oakland "a terrible mistake."

"I can tell you there's an executive with the Giants, who shall go unnamed," Piccinini said. "I ran into him at a Warriors game. He said, 'I hear you're getting involved with the Padres. We want you in San Diego; we just didn't want you here.' "

Mark Purdy of the Mercury News also believes that it's the Giants intention to have the A's leave the Bay Area.

Yes. That's my opinion. "@kfury: @burritojustice @JohnBranchNYT @MercPurdy Is SF trying to kick the As out of the Bay Area completely?"

Purdy has been consistent on his coverage of the territory situation and hasn't shown any bias in his coverage. He also recommends going to the site I go to to find as much info about this situation:

Good dialogue on A's ballpark issue tonite but it's clear many don't know all facts. Go here: http://newballpark.org/ for best background.

I would encourage you all to research for yourself to find the answer to what's going on. I'll give you a head start with some article, first from Purdy himself:

Even the Giant's hometown paper doesn't come out to endorse the Giant's stance on this case:

http://www.sfgate.com/opinion/editorials/article/San-Jose-cries-foul-over-A-s-4608182.php

ESPN's David Schoenfield also comes out in support of the A's case (in case you wanted a non-partial party's input on this)

http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/37163/time-for-mlb-to-let-the-as-move

Let's make this a quick, civil discussion after whoever wants to participate in this becomes more educated on the matter.
