Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

White Sox wouldn't trade us Sale. And even if they would entertain the thought, they'd want 4-6 players, 3 of which big league ready. They don't want the Cubs to shine.

I'm aware. But SP is gonna be a need sooner rather than later.

SP will be a need. But we have several arms developing that will be ready by 2017-18. And they can still sign one or two (or trade for one or two) as needed.

Jake/Lester/Hendricks should be here for the next few years at minimum, so really only need 2ish bodies. 1 from the farm, 1 from FA/trade seems doable.

Addison is 22. Baez is 23. Happ is 22.

Torres is 19 in Single A. Awesome, but does he help us this year, next year, or the year after?

it will be 3-4 years before Torres make it to the Big Leagues and our infield will be around for a long time.

I think Theo should try to make Chapman sign a 3-4 year contract. I do not like the 3 month rental.

Now the Yankees want Warren but I'm also hearing that chapman doesnt want an extension to remain a cub. Rejected a 4 year 60 mil extension offer

if he rejected the offer, The Cubs need to walk away from the table. lets not act desperate.

Now I'm hearing up to 4 players for chapman

I'm not real confident that rondon will pitch fine in October

9:45AM via Mike and Mike "According to ESPN's Buster Olney is saying it's almost done but it'll be by the end of day because they're in fact working on an extension. Main piece will be Torres with Warren also involved. Soler is NOT involved and never was."
Added Epstein will NOT pull the trigger without an extension.

Looks like the Yankees really want this deal to go through

Bad move.....
Wouldn't be the first time Theo made some bad moves.....ask any BoSox fan.

Basically gave away Castro for free and gave away the teams best prospect for a rental, and added a nice piece in McKinney.

Made a desperate Cashman look like a genius.

Yes, the 3 world series teams must crush them. :lol

He traded a pitcher with a 5 ERA, 2 Single A players, and one blue chip prospect.

Surprising, yes. Bad move? With our pen? No way man.

Now, if he walks in 2 months, yes, that'll hurt. But if he stays, much better goin forward.

C'mon now CP, u can't always be sipping the Theo Kool aid. Let's call a spade a spade.
He got nothing of value for Castro, and now we're giving them back Warren basically giving away Castro.
Then this clown turns down an extension which basically means he's only a rental, one that carries luggage.
If we with the WS then yes, it's a good move, but had they waited Chap would've had to clear waivers.
We overspent plain and simple. There were other moves to be made, but we just basically gave away the 15th ranked prospect in all of baseball.

Not a good move.
Twice now that Cashman got the better of Theo.

You aren't exactly looking at it in the grand scheme of things.

"Didn't get anything for Starlin"

Yes, they did. They got Castro out of the way, so they could bring in Zobrist, AND have room for Javy Baez. Starlin blocks that.

Also, having Warren, a part of the package to get Chapman. Warren BTW has a 5.91 ERA. He has a NEGATIVE WAR. As in, he has been thee worst pitcher on the Cubs roster in 2016. Are you really upset letting him go, for Chapman?

Chap wasn't clearing waivers dude. :lol And even if the Yankees tried that, we are LAST in the waiver order. Come on bruh. :lol

Again, we gave up Warren, we gave up a 4th guy that none of us have ever heard of from Single A. We gave up McKinney who has doubles power and we got for essentially Jason Hammel, who is still on the team now. And we gave up Gleyber.

We gave up 1 elite prospect, for 1 elite closer. That prospect isn't gonna help us this year, the year after, or the year after that.

Again, we have Addison 22, Baez 23, Ian Happ (22 in 3 weeks) and Zobrist 35. We are set up the middle for the next several years, easy.

Just like trading Vogelbach who would never help us because Rizzo blocked him, Gleyber has been blocked as well.

And to add to that, you are questioning a guy that has brought us

Bryant
Rizzo
Schwarber
Russell
Baez
Soler
Heyward
Contreras
Zobrist
Fowler
Arrieta
Lester
Hendricks
Lackey
Rondon
Hammel (twice)
Strop
Grimm
Carl Edwards Jr

Almora
Eloy
Eddy Julio Martinez
Happ
Underwood
Cease

You are questioning, THAT man? You realllllllllllly have a problem with what that man is doing?

Me? I think Theo knows more about this franchise than we do. If he feels the 4 guys he gave up were ok to give up, and not hurt the franchise, then I trust him, 100%. He gave the Red Sox 3 World Series titles. He took us from one of the worst teams in the league, to one of the best inside 4 years. And we STILL have a deep farm system, even after dealing 2-3 prospects the last couple days.

But if you want to doubt him, go on ahead. I won't try to stop you man. But I think you would do well to give him some slack, and let him work. He seems to be pretty good at what he does. ;)

The New York Yankees have agreed to a blockbuster trade that will send star closer Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs, as first reported Monday by FanRag Sports and confirmed by ESPN's Jayson Stark.

Chicago will send a four-player package to New York that includes top shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres, according to reports. The Yankees also will receive pitcher Adam Warren, minor league outfielder Billy McKinney and an unidentified fourth player, according to FanRag Sports and Stark.

As FanRag Sports first reported, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner has approved the deal. Speculation circulated Monday that one reason the teams have not announced the trade is because the Cubs are attempting to sign Chapman, a free agent after this season, to a long-term deal.

Chapman told ESPN's Marly Rivera that he will be flying to Chicago on Monday. The Cubs will play the cross-town rival White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field on Monday night.

Chapman, 28, fills an immediate need in the Cubs' bullpen, as the team lacks a true left-handed late-inning reliever with his type of experience. Chapman is 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA and 20 saves for the Yankees after he served a 30-game suspension under MLB's domestic violence policy earlier this season.

Torres, a 19-year-old at Class A, will be the centerpiece going back to the Yankees. He is the Cubs' top-ranked prospect and No. 26 in baseball, according to ESPN baseball Insider Keith Law. Torres was scratched about 20 minutes before first pitch Sunday afternoon.

Chicago originally acquired Warren in an earlier trade with the Yankees that sent Starlin Castro to New York. The right-hander went 3-2 with a 5.91 ERA in 29 games this season with the Cubs.

McKinney, 21, is at Double-A. He was part of the 2014 trade that brought Addison Russell to Chicago from Oakland.

Great note from @SlangsOnSports - Aroldis Chapman hasn't allowed a run vs the Cardinals in almost 5 yrs: 25 scoreless appearances, 46 K's!

The Cubs are smart, and the Yankees have little experience selling. I bet the Cubs feel better about what they gave up than public opinion.
