Jordan averaged 37 in 1987, but he also put up 28 shots a game

The current leading scorers in the league are only at 20 or so.

How many shots we giving Jordan to get to 40?

I don’t think people realize pace was actually faster at that point than it is now.

70s & 80s was run and gun. Even the bad boy pistons who people seem to think were some slow paced, grinding team were averaging like 110ppg and giving up 105ppg. They had a pace of like 98 per, which was like 15th in the league.

I know people don't like Bill Simmons, but one podcast he did he mentioned how basketball was "harder to play" now than it was back then in the 80's which to me is one of the prime reason why pace was so high back then.

Little things like not getting back on defense, standing and not really cutting or screening, no real offensive / defensive sophistication,

Man he averaged 37 and 35 in consecutive seasons. He's probably the only one I could see doing it.

Both of those seasons he averaged over 40 minutes a game and shot over 25 times a game. Not happening in today's league.

Again, that game MJ had 63, him and Orlando wool ridge took turns isoing in the right side of the court.

No disrespect to MJ though cause he was a bad man

Yeah I remember that one. Having to close out on the 3pt line as much as you do now. Takes a toll.

Lebron u dummy, your suppose have a fake account that only you know about.

I definitely didn’t know this. What has caused it to go down? Better defense?

I’m generalizing but teams in the ‘90s liked to walk the ball up and throw it to their big lumbering centers in the post and go from there. Jordan was fortunate in the sense that pace was very fast when he came into the league and stayed fast during his athletic prime, then slowed to a crawl as he aged, bottoming out in the late ‘90s/early ‘00s, then began to speed up again after the rule changes in ‘04. So it lined up perfectly for him.

The Skill Gap done increased too. You can’t be “big for nothing” or just an enforcer anymore.

The Reggie Evans and even Roy “verticality” Hibbert types can’t play today’s game. Versatility is at an all time high. You gotta know how to do more than one thing to hoop today. Less room for specialists today.

Oh ****  there ya go. They're just loaded at the guard positions. I think once Dec 15 hits the Clips could be primed to trade one or both of Pat and AB to free up some minutes along w/some other guys who become trade eligible then.

While I love Pat’s grit and swagger, he’s been a liability more this season than he’s been an asset. His offense has been horrendous and even his defense hasn’t been great because he’s has a hard time not fouling. Unless he seriously picks it up, I won’t object to him being moved.
