NFL scouts rave about Michigan's Jabrill Peppers of Paramus Catholic http://nj-ne.ws/6WEAQU0
"The next Charles Woodson.'' "The most versatile player I've ever scouted.'' Those were just a few of the compliments being thrown around by NFL scouts at Jabrill Peppers, the Michigan do-it-all phenom, who played his high school football at Paramus Catholic.
Peppers, 6-1, 205, has been a star in all three phases of the game for Jim Harbaugh's undefeated and No. 2 ranked Wolverines this fall.
And the scouts have taken notice.
"He's unbelievable,'' a top college scout for a NFC team said. "He can do everything. He can be whatever you want him to be. He might be the next Charles Woodson.''
"He can be that good,'' the scout continued. "I'd start him out at cornerback. If you want to move him to safety, you could do that. He can play offense, too. He might actually be able to play both ways for you.''
An executive in personnel for another NFC team was just as impressed with Peppers.
"He's a top five pick in my mind,'' he said. "He's unbelievable. He's the most versatile player I've ever scouted. He does it all for (Michigan). I think at our level, he's a safety, he reminds me of (former Steelers great) Troy Polamalu. I don't think I'd use him on offense. He could be a good return man for you, though.
"What he is, is just a phenomenal athlete. But he's more than that, because he's tough and he's smart, too.''
A third scout also thinks Peppers would be best at safety in the NFL, but one that a defense could utilize in a variety of ways.
"He's better than Jalen Ramsey (the No. 5 overall pick of the 2016 draft by the Jaguars), so there's that,'' the scout said. "He's a safety, but you can match him up if you want. He can take on the better tight ends, (the ********') Jordan Reed man to man. You can put him in the slot. You can blitz him, play him deep. He's going to be a difference maker for a defense.''
Trent Richardson played Leonard Fournette to prep Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It seems that former Alabama stars are lining up to help the Crimson Tide this season.
Prior to the Texas A&M game, former quarterback Blake Sims returned to give the Crimson Tide a scout-team look of Aggie quarterback Trevor Knight.
Last week, Alabama enlisted two former stars on the scout-team. Quarterback John Parker Wilson played the role of LSU quarterback Danny Etling.
It was revealed Monday that former Tide running back and Heisman Trophy finalist Trent Richardson was also in town to simulate LSU tailback Leonard Fournette.
Alabama held Fournette to 35 yards on 17 carries in its 10-0 victory over LSU.
“It’s pretty cool because I grew up watching those dudes,” Alabama linebacker Ryan Anderson said. “I look up to them so to be out there with them, it’s just a different feeling.”
Anderson said he didn’t get any big hits on Richardson.
Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey said it wasn’t easy trying to tackle Richardson.
“I think Trent gave a pretty good look, and John Parker, too,” Humphrey said. “Tackling Trent last week, that’s a big guy man. It’s also pretty cool going against those guys know what they’ve done for the program. I have a lot of respect for those guys.”
Wilson led Alabama to an undefeated regular season in 2008.
As the feature back in 2011, Richardson helped Alabama to the national championship and was a Heisman Trophy finalist.
Richardson was the No. 3 overall selection by the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft. He was last signed by the Baltimore Ravens, but was later cut.
Alabama has taken advantage of an NCAA rule for back-to-back games.
Adopted in March 2011, NCAA bylaw 14.2.1.6, titled “Exception — Former Student Participating in Practice on an Occasional Basis” allowed Alabama to use Sims.
The bylaw states, “A former student at the certifying institution (e.g., former student-athlete) may participate in an organized practice session on an occasional basis, provided the institution does not publicize the participation of the former student at any time before the practice session.”
