A few boxes need to be checked before Pat Burrell signs a minor league contract with the Giants, although sources said a deal is likely to be finalized today.
Burrell, who grew up in the South Bay and attended Bellarmine College Prep, would be assigned to Triple-A Fresno to be evaluated. His contract will have an out clause if the Giants fail to promote him by a certain date, likely within a month.
