Chipper hit in face taking batting practice

Ball bounces off top of cage into eye, Jones taken for X-rays

ANAHEIM -- Chipper Jones actually managed to add to the multitude of ways a Braves player has been injured this year.
While taking batting practice from the left side of the plate at Angels Stadium on Friday night, Jones hit a ball that hit the top, front portion of the batting cage. The ball ricocheted right back into the veteran third baseman's left eye.

Jones, who leads the Majors with a .414 batting average, was removed from Friday night's lineup. The Braves are hopeful that he simply suffered a contusion. X-ray results will be available later.
When he was hit, Jones immediately bent over in obvious pain and was tended to by Braves assistant athletic trainer Jim Lovell. Hitting coach Terry Pendleton said it looked like the ball hit Jones square. "It squared him up for sure," Pendleton said. As he was move toward the dugout, Jones was seemingly dazed and was slowly attempting to blink his eyes.

How i feel

i saw Chipper hit the ball off the cage and thought wow Braves have the worst luck in Baseball right now.

Charlie Morton RHP Major League Debut: 9 pm EST vs Angels

Morton will make his Major League debut on Saturday against the Angels. The 24-year-old right-hander has been impressive in Triple-A Richmond, going 5-2 with a 2.05 ERA in 12 starts. He did not give up a homer in 79 innings, and he struck out 72 while walking 27. Opponents batted .181 against him. Morton allowed a season-high four runs and four hits in five innings on Sunday. The Braves would have preferred to let Morton mature in the Minor Leagues, but weren't afforded that luxury with a rash of injuries to their starting rotation.

Decent Prospect. Nothing too special IMO. He was supposed to be in a platoon wit Diaz this year based off his success during his call-up last year but hehad a HORRIBLE Spring Training. He was very average during his time at Triple A this season, so I'm guessin that he took over Schafer's connect.

Brandon Jones is hitting great didn't think he was good last time he was in the Majors with the Braves probably cause he was rushed but he is providingoffense and Braves won Charlie Morton 1st win in ML Debut.

Braves win 7-1 Jair Jurrjens was great today 7 2/3 innings pitched no runs allowed.

The Braves offense was on today

Chipper just broke an 0 for 12 hitting slump today.....hanging to about .403 BA.

We won 3 of our last 4 games on the road.

Brandon Jones is lighting it up for us.

LOL at the Rockies this season. They are now a fraud of a World Series contender to begin with.

Mikey is back.

Nice comeback with for the Braves at the top of the 9th. The error just opened the window of opportunity for the win.

Omar Infante seems to be useful to us now.

So far Tex had mixed reactions in his return to Arlington.

We are doing slightly better on the road now.
