No Kobe, No Duncan, and No Shaq in the NBA Finals Vol. It's been a good run

It would be better to say that these are the first finals without Isiah, Jordan, Hakeem, Shaq, Duncan and Kobe since 1988. Or if we were to add Magic and Bird to these names, then we could go all the way back to 1980... Or that this is only the second finals without Magic, Bird, Jordan, Hakeem, Shaq, Duncan and Kobe since 1980.
One of my favorite such streaks is that from 1994 to 2003 (10 seasons), the NBA champion had either Robert Horry or Steve Kerr on them.

Cot... DAAAAAAMNNN!!!!!

What was the first? Didn't the Sixers/Rockets meet in the 80s?

*edit* Looked it up. I'm stumped. I see 1 of those 7 in every Finals since '80.

Pistons/Blazers 89-90

if you really wanna go way back this is the first finals since 1981 without kobe, duncan, shaq, jordan, hakeem, isiah, larry bird, or magic in it.  add dennis johnson and it's the first finals without any of those 9 names mentioned since 1977

9 players in every finals from 1978-now is crazy

It's really not that crazy at all. All it means is that 9 of the best players of the past 33 years have made what averages to roughly 4 finals appearances each. If you're one of the best players of the past 1/3 of a century, it's not that crazy that you would make it to like 4 finals.
Btw, you'd think somebody would mention Robert Horry. He was on most of those Rockets, Lakers & Spurs teams championships. 2 with Houston, 3 with LA and 2 with SA.
