Do you guys think these will be sold out for the remainder of the year? I'd like to get one but I'm not paying the reseller price. People already have the deluxe for over $500 on craigslist.

The Wii U, the console youre defending and proclaiming has such diversity, is launching with another 2d super mario game, as well as year old ports of games like ME3 and Batman Arkham City. If any argument can be made, its that Nintendo has great first party software - Ill give you that - but theyve never been competitive on a third party level. They try to innovate and end up compromising in the sense that they create an experience so different from competitors that theyre the only developers with the time/resources to properly utilize them.
The Wii sold a ton, but many people do not look back at it fondly. It was a fad to many, something they grabbed, used for a bit and watched collect dust for months at a time. I really dont care how the Wii U does because once again its not going to be competitive with the next gen of hardware from Sony / MS, and those are the gaming experiences I prefer, but hopefully the console gets some good third party support for once.
true but that is because they are trying to gain a different market. And true indeed they are pretty much as far as launch doing the same in a sense of what the other two are doing. But what kills me is when ppl say like 360 has such a diverse library and ppl buy it etc... because of it, and then when out of the top 25 games for the system 2 games and sequels etc... of those games make up like 50% of the list... How much diversity is that really? I mean i owned all except the ps3 but, to be honest as far as variety of games i got that from wii, and my xbox was more so for games that werent on pc. I mean thats me simply cause i cant justify paying 3 times the cost for a game just to say i have it on a console, when its 3 times as inferior in terms of graphics etc... And im not a big online gamer etc...

Not to say majority of casual gamers are like me. but most casual gamers are like ok ive played one war simulated game/own one thats good for me and wont go out and buy 10-15 different variations of it. Plus like you said those first party games are fun plus are easy to pick up and play. The percentage of ppl at large will find more fun in a game like wii nintendoland, mario, donkey kong, mario galaxy etc... then 3 versions of assains creed or 15 war games, or 30 similar rpgs. To them and sales show it becomes repetitive and mundane. And pretty much is the same game with different characters etc... or different storylines. Or it is viewed as a interactive movie.

tactics by nintendo to make you want the system even more lol

wait it out and you'll get the system eventually...

I remember when the wii first came out, i didn't buy it until a few months later. Lol remember when that was fetching a lot of money on ebay? Same idea here. Wait it out, don't feed into the hype lol

Maybe its just by me or my area. But no midnight release for the console, seems like there is very little hype. So i would say no i don't think they will remain sold out all year.

And i think it depends on what you mean by "compete" with next gen consoles. So you don't think the wii competed with the PS3 and 360? I would due to the amount of units it sold that it did compete. And by that philosophy i think the wiiU will "compete" as well. I don't know why people get so worked up on "how" you use it. The wii and wiiU are bought for tons of children. The video game industry as a whole is a novelty market. People who are hardcore gamers aren't the bulk of the market. It's the casual gamer that they try to focus on. Same thing we all say about sneakers. For every NTer that knows every year bred XIs retroed there are are 30 kids who are going to buy the concords in black and red color.

Theres no clear cut "casual" gamer. The same way youre content with your Wii and the diversity you find it provides, another guy goes out to buy a 360 and Madden every year. Thats a "casual" gamer but the system caters to what that person might want - an online capable console that plays the game he likes with good graphics and a streamlined interface. Your idea of diversity relating to the Wii might be in the sense of games that are unique to the platform or utilize the motion controls, and thus are different than the more traditional fare on ps3/360, but the flipside of that is that one can say ps3/360 have far more diversity simply as a result of the amount of developers and third parties supporting them, along with playstation network/XBLA providing a framework for more experimental, indie games as well.Again, everyone has their preferences. I hope the Wii U does well for the sake of a more diversified gaming environment, but I'd be lying if I said I wanted to play with one. Im content with this gens games on PS3/360, I use my PS3 as a blu ray player more than anything during the school year, and thatll probably be the case until GTA V comes out.

i, like ptrakarn23 am banking on the fact that supply will be limited for Q4. Eventually supply will meet demand, but hopefully it wont be until the new year. If you dont absolutely have to have this by Xmas and you dont want to pay reseller prices, just hold out for a few months.

Setting up my Wii U right now. Got the Deluxe Tax free

You mind sharing where? Might head out in a bit to find one if I can't get it online.

hahahaha i was able to order mine tax free too but a different way (military).

True but 5-10 different gaming developers making their version of a war simulation game isnt exactly diverse. Thats like saying you have a diverse game catalog and you have 10 different nfl games. End of the day you still essentially have one type of game. a nfl simulated game. 360/ps2 kinda reminds me sorta like music.... a person who says they have a diverse selection of music... yet they only have rap. but they justify it by saying oh well i have west coast, bounce, booty shaking, up north etc... down south. Not quite the same as someone saying i have a diverse music collection and they have pop/reggae/country/rock etc...

Just like you said there are different developers ala like my reference to music.... dj toomp/shawty red/lex luger essentially make the same type of music/beats. kinda the same as if 10 developers make their version of a game thats like grand theft auto. I mean yes mckie dees/burger king etc... are different developers/food chains etc... but end of the day they are both still fast food hamburger joints. But to a person who strictly only want hamburgers they will see this as diverse... ala same with how you are saying 30 is for you. Like i got black ops 2 because i wanted to play a new version of basically something i already had, but if i wanted to play a game different from this genre i wouldnt be looking at black ops 2. And thats where nintedno kinda fits in. it was its niche with the wii. The person who said ok i want to play a different game, or play a game in a different way, have a totally new experience with a game was what sold the wii.

Cause at the end of the day i enjoyed both batmans... but outside of storyline etc... it wasnt a totally different game, it was essentially the same type of game, same with lets say a nba2k, to the persons that want to have a different bball game experience there is nba jam or street etc... that is what wii does. to others the so called hardcore gamers. they just want a real nba simulated game thus will continiously purchase updated versions of nba 2k. Thats what ps3/xbox 360 did well.

Nintendo always have done this even with the genesis/snes days... genesis thru a little variety here and there alal sonic etc... But nintendo various ways to play games and different types of games is the reason in did so well and outsold sega, and had a much larger demographic. wiiu is i guess trying to merge those worlds together, the gamer who just buys updated sports games, every version of a halo/cod type game and is heavy on online play, and the person who plays games like mario, lego series, starfox etc... to the person who finds great enjoyment in games like angry birds and doodle jump.

Whether they do this well is another topic. Im really interested in what microsoft does... again based of rumors of the new system they might actually be successful in doing so and making the system a centerpiece for home enteratinment.

completely forgot this released yesterday, are stores in NYC pretty much done?

A post regarding the power in the WiiU from neogaf

The current Wii U dev kit i am talking about (not this supposed new one in the last few weeks) Is slightly LESS powerful than the Xbox 360. What I mean by that is that we would have to scale back/change our Xbox/PS3 games to run on the console. Its a tri core out of order cpu with 1GB of pretty slow ram and a decently featured gpu that lacks raw muscle. Its good and efficient, just not that powerful. As we all know they can change it and according to rumors they have. But nothing they can do this late in the game is going to dramatically change its performance. When it ships it will be in the ball park of the Xbox 360/PS3 (give or take a little). But in no way will it be 2x or more powerful then the HD twins. Just not happening.

Nintendo will have no problem making great looking games on it, and 3rd party studios will be able to port games from 360/ps3. But when ever MS/Sony show their next consoles it might not be so true

This agrees with posts today showing that the WiiU has 2GB of Samsung DDR3 memory running at a max speed of [12.8 GB/s] RAM 43% slower than 360/PS3

Prolly cop at the end of the year during winter break

This info is disturbingly dissapointing. I remember reading a while back that the wii u will be 3 times more powerful than 360.

that you did, and they said they would be using some sort of new graphic engine that would be unparallel to current generation console and be on par with many upper echelon cpu's

Nintendo’s Wii U went on sale yesterday and it’s already sold out just about everywhere.

Not that this was a big surprise. Analysts have been speculating for a while that the Wii U was on track to do well this holiday season, especially because it faces almost zero competition from competing consoles.

IDC analyst Lewis Ward estimates that Nintendo will move 1.6 million Wii U units by the end of the year in North America, and 3 million worldwide.

Surprisingly, that’s over half of what Nintendo expects to sell in the Wii U’s first year alone. ”Nintendo is probably underestimating sales so they can beat expectations,” Ward said.

While it’s too early for exact sales figures, David Riley of NPD Group says that it’s a good sign for holiday sales that Nintendo has managed to attract so much consumer attention out of the gate (and the timing is perfect for that).

But, ultimately, the really important thing to pay attention to is games, which are always the lifeblood of any game console.

“Game hardware is all about the content,” Riley said, noting that the Wii U’s third-party content looks pretty strong so far and for the next few months.

In the end, however, most analysts don’t think that the Wii U will quite match the success of the original Wii, which has hit worldwide sales of 92 million.

That’s because the console market is very different today than it was when the original Wii was launched in 2006. Consumers have more gaming options, and, in general, less cash. ”The Wii U’s $300 price point is disadvantageous for Nintendo,” Ward said.

But that price point didn’t seem to deter the legions of hardcore consumers who camped out to buy the console on its first day. Nor is it likely to effect the many more people who will rush into stores this holiday season.

“The games industry needs a shot in the arm, and the Wii U may just give it one” Riley said
Nintendo’s Miiverse Isn’t Xbox Live. It Might Be Something Better.
Nintendo's brand new online social network Miiverse has had its ups and downs since it went live on Saturday night. And by that I mean it's actually been up and down, online and offline, since then.

When Miiverse is down it's still just about as good as Nintendo's previous online efforts for its consoles. When it's up, it just might be the beginning of something terrific.

In the video here, I'll walk you through it and show you some pretty cool stuff.

As with all things Nintendo, don't expect something that apes what the competition is doing. You'll see bits of Steam in what they're doing, but Nintendo has not re-created Xbox Live or PlayStation Network. They've not made a network that groups players together for party chat, and they've neglected to create system-wide Achievements. Instead, they've put their effort into what at first appears to just be some presumably-hospitable  console-based message boards but could ultimately become a system that connects gamers in some extraordinarily useful ways.

This is a service that lets you pause a difficult game, screencap what was happening on your TV or GamePad controller, hop to a game-specific message board, post the image, type or scribble a question about how to get past a part of the game, go back to playing, and then get helpful replies from people who have played the same game. Not only is this a good idea, but it could give Nintendo license to make a Zelda  game that is as packed full of esoteric screenshots.

Give this tour of Miiverse a look. Nintendo's on to something here. As long as they can keep the service online.

I disagree with this analyst, a new 360 w/ 250MB is still starting at $250 and that is w/o Kinect, the same with the PS3 160GB version. The Wii U really is only $50 more than the Wii and when parents see that the Wii U is a pretty good price really, I mean that is cheaper than an iPad. When PS3 and 360 first came out, it was like $500-$700? The next gen will likely be priced the same if not more and even though it'll likely be much better (hardware-wise), come holidays when the 3 consoles are on the shelf and a parent is thinking about buying a system for their kids, they'll easily gravitate to the Wii U on the price alone. Even this holiday, for a little bit more they can get a new console over the dates PS3/360 systems (on the point of view of parents who are only bugged by their kids to buy them a console of course and we know there are plenty of those).

especially next year, considering wiiu will be in just about full stream, have plenty of games that take advantage of its controller concept, and be hitting its first price point, probably something like a holiday special to include a new nintendoland etc... or some other novelty game for about 250 and be the elite version, or some sort of special gimmicky color version with a special game pack etc... So you have to look at from a price point, mass majority audience, economy games etc... a system with a slew of games in all varieties and flavors, with a social following, (im sure by the miiverse etc... will garner and have some sort of following large by next year) and places at around a 250-200 dollar mark.... as oppose to two systems that are 2 maybe three times the cost, with limited games, which a majority being ok decent at best... Lets not act like most of time launch titles end up being some of the best games for that system... well at least thats not the case with the other two big systems...

Just found out I'm getting around $35 dollars back on Wii U. They forgot to add my target discount fully at the register. Now I have $35 and a $5 gift card plus my 15% discount. :smokin

till squaresoft and nintendo team up again to bring back Chrono Trigger, i dont ever see myself buying a nintendo system again...
