New NX Rumors via Reddit. It's a rough translation from Italian insider so take it with a grain of cocaine... but still some very interesting stuff if true.

  • He's under strict NDA with Nintendo Japan
  • Informations are from march 2015, with some updates from june-july
  • He received a bunch of patents (some of them are publics now), info about what Nintendo is planning and a list of games potentially in development (some of them may or may not have been cancelled), third parties included
  • NX is a platform, not tied with a single device
  • Wii U is still in the picture thanks to good software results for games like Splatoon, will still be the main home console in 2016
  • 3DS is a bit old, they're planning of replacing it. Some games will still come out on it, but big projects are being moved on portable NX
  • With NX, Nintendo wants to create a platform where they can develop software for multiple devices with ease, from the home console to the portable to smartphone and tablets. They'll have a big catalogue available for multiple platforms, with cross buy, cross saves and cross play, similar to what Microsoft is doing with Xbox One and PC thanks to Windows 10 (that allows to play many Xbox games on PC, which is also getting a bunch of ports from Xbone). Each platform will still have exclusive games
  • NNID is tied to the single device, but it will allow to share details between platforms, like friend list, contents, local coop games, etc. Thanks to the new membership program (the successor of Club Nintendo), we'll benefit from the new Nintendo policies in terms of rewards
  • They'll show the portable in spring 2016, will be out for the end of the year or spring 2017 max. Specs will be higher than PS Vita but nothing mindblowing, screen resolution should be 540p, considering 720p if costs go down. BC with 3DS was problematic
  • Wii U successor will not have an optical drive, which will be optional. It will sync with the portable (not obligatory). Specs won't be super high, but close to PS4/X1 (doesn't know how much, like with the portable this is still subject to change anyway). Cross games will look better on the home
  • Nintendo is focusing a lot on the anti-piracy system
  • Big focus on the OS as well. They hired people that worked for Google on Android, the guys who worked on the Gamecube OS and Wii U browser are there too. Optimized versions of the same OS for every NX platform (think, again, W10), each with its set of specific functions. Updates will come out at the same time, they're focusing on making the OS blazing fast on every platform
  • The home console can connect with the portable to send to it its own version of the games you buy, will use the same tech as the Wii U-Wii U Gamepad streaming to do that, or the internet connection
  • The home will have bc with the Wii U. Gamepad should be compatible as a controller, considering selling it standalone. Can connect with the portable for offtv and bc. WiiMote compatibility is being considered too. As for support, since the new home won't have an optical drive, they're considering an external one. Also being considered NNID/eShop bc for titles bought on the eShop. Seems they're considering digital games sharing too, but this bit is not perfectly clear
  • The portable will have its own internal memory, which will be expandable
  • There will be a complete overhaul of online infrastructures, but Nintendo is determined to hold successful operations as Miiverse, extending it even further and making it a central hub for communications by developers and a meeting place for players. It will be even more interactive with the ability to upload videos and screenshots in an integrated system and not dependent on the game
  • Voice chat and interactions between users will be revisited too, much will depend on the users age though, to protect the minors
  • The home will be out 6-12 months after the portable, creating the "NX system" that will allow Nintendo to better use their resources in games development
  • They approached third parties during E3. Capcom, Square-Enix, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts already have devkits. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Sonic, F-Zero and Metroid are in development, doesn't know if these are main episodes or spin offs. Zelda is currently a Wii U only title due to high development costs, but they can reconsider to have another big game at NX launch
  • Prices will be low, 200-300€ (for the home?), considering a bundle with both for no more than 500€
  • Many of these things will be discussed in future Nintendo Directs, which will have a different host in every market if Nintendo can't find a new CEO by october
  • A new 3D Mario will be shown, along with a new Zelda trailer. Retro moved their project on NX, will not be unveiled before 10-18 months
  • They'll talk about a new "Club Nintendo", which will be in full function with NX
  • Considering making agreements with phone carriers in order to better manage applications like Miiverse, Club Nintendo and the ability to purchase software by phone. Some of these will be out by March 2016
  • Is everything set yet? Yes, but with Nintendo you'll never know. If he has updates he will share them with us.

If true, this could be amazing. Especially is they actually get some solid third party support. I'll have no need for another system... but we'll see

What do ya'll think? 8o

Excited for the NX but I love my wii U. MK 8 and Super Smash Bros are generation defining games. We'll definitely be holding those games on a pedestal 10 years from now, it's just not gettin the credit it deserves

And iYen iYen what you know about Ace Attorney :Nthat

As always with Nintendo, this stuff sounds good but I'll need to see it in action. I don't like my NNID being liked to a device. It doesn't have to match the power of Ps4/X1 but it needs to be close imo, if they want that 3rd party support. I really hope it has a normal controller. BC is great because as much as I dislike the Wii U, I enjoy quite a few of the games. I'm not really worried about the handheld, Nintendo already got that area on lock.

Console will be DOA.

I'll buy Wii U when Zelda drops though.

Why would it be Dead On Arrival? Its damn near been confirmed that Square Enix is bringing Dragon Quest XI to the platform, EA, and Ubisoft are rumored to already have dev kits? If this is true and they get third party support along with great 1st party games it should do well.

And what if they drop the new Zelda on the NX platform with better graphics? Wouldn't you cop it?

Again, if true I think the NX will be a success. Hell, I still feel the Wii U woulda been successful if third parties didn't abandon it.

Xbox is having problems moving units. Sony and Microsoft are giving away their consoles to increase their userbase. Nintendo would have to come in at 200 base price to really move units.

PS4 and Xbox One have alot of additional media features as well plus they play blu-rays.

I slightly agree, but lets get away from hyperbole... Neither are giving away their console. They may be going too far with all the value added promo, but it's nothing new and has been going on for years in the gaming industry.

Nevertheless, the PS4 is still doing quite well for Sony. Why? Neither are really doing much in terms of groundbreaking software, but for some reason consumers have bought into Sony's message... Greatness Awaits. They believe the PS4 will have the best gaming experiences this generation.

And it really has nothing really to do with features or gimmicks, its really public perception aided by great marketing and the promise of great games. If blu-ray and media features were that important XBox One would be selling a lot better than it is.

As for Nintendo, they have been largely a non-factor this generation, BUT Sony's success has been somewhat superficial IMO. Some of the most popular games are remakes and remasters. IF (and its a big IF)... but if Nintendo can continue to deliver their groundbreaking software along with renewed support from 3rd parties in an affordable package, they absolutely have a chance.

In terms of price, if Nintendo were to hype this system up and position it the right way that can absolutely charge a premium price (over $200) and still find success. In fact, I think a $200 price might even hinder them. Consumers already think of them as kiddy and a low price point reinforces that. They have to find that balance between cheap and affordable. I'd say $250-$300 is probably the sweet spot, especially if its a digital only console. Lets parts = cheaper.

It's a tough place to be in for Nintendo. PS4/X1 will be entering its prime if you wanna call it that. You'll have the heavy hitters releasing and many which will have released by then and Nintendo will be entering the market in the middle of all that. A lot of people are just not going to buy multiple systems.

I agree with you Nawghty, I'm always willing to give Nintendo a chance but this time I'll wait before copping. I can't deal with the motion controls anymore. I want a regular controller! I want voice support and online that's similar to PS4/X1.

Bruh we mostly all already have multiple consoles
And real talk lets be honest
Nintendo actually tries to put out great software
The actually try to innovate without relying on graphics
Look at the great games they put out with underpowered hardware
Imagine what they could do with some suped up hardware
Nintendo is always a system that I can play with my fam
And I'm grateful for that
The nastalgic feel when I play old and new games on that system is second to none
I guess that's why I go so hard for em
People forget gaming ain't all about ur k/d or how many polygons they can fit on screen
It's about just having fun
Which I believe nintendo does right with its games

Sure most of us on NT may have multiple systems but would think majority of parents buying these consoles are only one. I remember growing up we had one system which was always Nintendo. It wasn't until I moved with my Dad that I got a PS1. Let's say the handheld drops late 2016, that means the home console will drop mid to late 2017. By then the PS4/X1 wil be 4 years old and the Nintendo home console will still be less powerful than both. Therefore they'll be releasing new hardware that's outdated by a lot. I know Nintendo has a hardcore fan base but they can't keep relying on those old franchises to keep them afloat. I buy my kids Mario, DK etc because it's what I grew up on. My kids enjoy them but there's plenty available on PS4/X1 that my kids would play, enjoy and be perfectly fine with. There's a lot of fun games on both. Nintendo might do it better but they not the only ones putting out good quality games.

All this said, I just want a regular controller, online that isn't broken and allows voice chat and I'll be sold. I'll never buy a 3rd party game on Nintendo if I can get it on PS4/X1 so the power doesn't really matter to me.

Nintendo doesn't have the resources to make a console like Sony or Microsoft.

Releasing underpowered hardware is not a good look either.

It's going tk be dreamcast status. This system has an UNREAL catalogue.

Anyone else see the trailer for the new Zelda 3DS game coming out in October?

Supposed to be the same style as A Link Between Two Worlds but looks like it has a lot of new features. I'm curious to see how it will be, hopefully they increase the difficulty.

Just picked up Zero suit samus, Olimar, Ganondorf, Dr. Mario and the unicorn that is Bowser Jr. from a gamestop, Toys R Us and Target trip this morning! :smokin

Still need captain falcon and the fire emblem characters...

Might be picking up Mario Maker tonight after work but I'm indifferent. I love the concept honestly, it amazing! And I'll know it will be a nice game to have when I have friends and particularly women over...who doesn't play Mario?? But I feel like this is the end of the 2d Mario era. People are gonna be out there creating ridiculously complex and over the top levels and Nintendo will just solely focus on 3d Mario games. It's like I don't wanna support that :lol
