Ok so its 2 ghz slower then the competition and has a much lower memory bandwitdh. The GPU is better so every game will have to run off the GPU with CPU barely backing it up. Man the Wii U really falters in that area. How hard would it have been to grab a cheap quad core?

The more I read about this the more funnier it becomes.
If in the next two years the WII U has an emu similar to Dolphin.....SMH

lettuce be cereal, this system doesn't nearly have the hype of the og wii or even gamecube. i strongly believe that nintendo could lose ground in the console race, and lag behind ps/xbox. with that said, it could be interesting how it plays out. big name games are ps/xbox and idk anyone who uses a wii. the next gen fron sony and microsoft will be hardware powerhouses and developers are going to want to make the next blockbuster on those systems that can run it as opposed to nintendo's bs.

can't say the u will flop. but i never heard of long lines of people hundreds deep that you saw for ps2/3, wii, for this wii u. nintendo went downhill after cube.
as oppose to the 360/ps3 being powerhouses over the wii. Same thing potentially, yet the og wii has sold almost more then the 360/ps3 has combined. And how has nintendo went down hill when the wii outsold the gamecube... matter fact gamecube was and i believe the worst selling console produced by nintendo. So how has it went downhill from the worst selling console to wii being one of its best selling consoles? When you look at it in terms of sales etc... gamecube was its dark moment/downfall. As far as these major 3rd party players in the mix. 1 most of them are already on board and making games for wiiu, 2nd many of them didnt make games for wii yet it still outsold and currently outsells the ps3 2folds and is ahead by close to 40 million units of its 2nd runner up the 360.

If you mean nintendo went downhill in terms of quality of games, thats subjective to opinion. In terms of sales... it says otherwise. As many have stated in the grand scheme of it all these so called "hardcore gamers" make up a very small % of the buying world. Look at for example angry birds... it isnt some technical powerhouse in terms of graphic quality, details, complexity etc... in comparison to other mobile games...yet sales wise is there any game even remotely close to doing what angry birds franchise has done? Do i prefer games like a c.o.d etc... halo, gta so on and so forth? Depends on mood, but in terms of overall and based on sales... ppl at large prefer a new mario over a new black ops.

then maybe i should specify games then my bad. but i mean what good is a system without a solid game library? ps3 sales initially fell behind ps2 sales for this reason alone. gamecube had a better game library than wii. wii fell behind hard, with lack of developer support. hardly any games were coming out for the system, but by the end of its life, who really cared? sales were thru the roof of wii i can't deny that...the system was hard to come by at one point. but is it fair to judge the success of a system based of sales alone or do you base it off of its life source that is a game library? i think its the latter, and from that perspective, wii wasn't successful at all.

To compare
Wii U
CPU: 1.2GHz tri-core
Memory: 2 GB
Memory bandwidth: 12.8 GB/s
GPU core: 550MHz
Xbox 360
CPU: 3.2GHz tri-core
Memory: 512 MB
Memory bandwidth: 22.4 GB/s
GPU core: 500MHz
PS3
CPU: 3.2GHz single core + 6 SPUs
Memory: 256 MB + 256 MB
Memory bandwidth: 25.6 GB/s
GPU Core: 550MHz

wow the CPU is looking like the bottleneck.

If he was able to get that off the system, it might be a few months before its hacked. The only problem for pirates so far is the media disks the WiiU uses.

Its so much wrong with this post where to begin...

First of all you say the Wii U didn't have the hype of the GameCube or the Wii... I'll give you the Wii, BUT the Gamecube???? Are you kidding me. The Gamecube was the worse selliing Nintendo home console and was swallowed up by the PS2's hype. That does not mean it wasn't a decent system, but the PS2 absolutely killed the Gamecube in terms of hype and systems sold.

Nintendo went downhill after Gamecube??? This statement makes absolutely no sense and 98.5 million systems sold by the Wii proves that. In terms of popularity and the money it made, the original Wii was a huge improvement over the Gamecube.

Then you say that Nintendo may lose ground to Xbox/PS. This is something that is yet to be seen because the next installments of the next consoles have not launched. But after selling over 700,000 units after 11 days of being released I would say that's a pretty decent launch. Don't forget it hasn't even released globally yet. In fact the Wii U has outperformed the PS3 and XBox360 in terms of launch numbers in the US. To expect Nintendo to strike lighting in a bottle twice and match the original Wii's initial success was a lot to ask for, but it's still a great start.

To assume developers will automatically chose to develop for the next PS3 and Xbox may not be a sure bet. The last generation we saw that 3rd party developers chose to focus primarily on the XBox360 and port games to the PS3. The result of that were games that looked better on the Xbox360 even though the PS3 had the superior hardware. The Xbox 360 was the first system to launch last system giving developers time to learn the hardware. This time the Wii U is first to market.

:lol to be fair im not 12 or 14, so maybe there's hype around the wii u that exceeds the cube (doubt it), but i remember the cube being that system to cop, hell i remember being in a long line with my moms and buying one right out its shipping crate at toys r us. its besides the point. wii u doesn't have much going for it from what i can see. again it remains to be seen how this plays out, but i think throwing around sales figures is clouding the fact that it really means nothing at the end of the day. wii sold millions and it still died before 360 and ps3.

Can't even compare the two. Still would rather have a Cube over this

Due to sagging sales, Nintendo halted GameCube production to reduce surplus units.[sup][25][/sup] Sales rebounded slightly after a price drop to US$99 with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition bundle.

Iuno what lines or big demand your talking about... The system lasted all of 3 and a half years and sales were so horrid they had to drop price and bundle a $50 game with it 18 months after its release. I mean outside of the awkward controller the gamecube was an ok/decent system... It had in terms of game releases one of the best of all nintendo systems (mainly because of its short live and limited releases) Hell to this day it only sold 21 million units worldwide.

Hell ppl call the dreamcast a flop failure... and it lasted and produced games (although not in usa) and sold systems for 8 years. Just found out there are small independent gaming companies that continue to support and release dreamcast games and make accesories to this day.

I find it funny that most ppl who dislike wii wiiu etc... Like/love nintendos worse produced console. The gamecube is more or less the sega saturn of sega line of systems. Its like ppl who hated the iphone 4 but love the iphone 5. Im like huh really...... In terms of game changing new features etc... quality of phone etc.... you dislike one of apple best phones, and lovee the worst possibly release the compnay has put out in terms of phones..... That one i still dont get.

Evn if all wiiu does is just do port overs it still will sell well because as far as in house game production no other system does it and does it well. Plus it will be a system for everyone ala i can get the call of duty etc for me (the hardcore gamer) get the donkey kong w/e for the kids, and the new cooking mama game for the wofe and the latest wiiusports yhat everyone will enjoy without having to buy multiple platforms.

This is what nintendo has pretty much banked on, and almost 30 years later where turbographx, atari,sega,3D0, neo geo etc... and the like there ofs have come and gone and crashed and burned.

I bought one for my kiddo for Christmas and set it up last night so he didn't have to wait for the updates when he opened it. The first thing that came to mind was how ridiculously simple it was to program the remote to control my TV and Satellite. Like 'choose manufacturer' and that's it simple. I bought him the Mario game and thought it was great.

What will determine the success of the Wii U will be how legit their online infrastructure is for the long haul because people will buy Nintendo just for the 1st party titles alone that they grew up with.

Pretty much this. I don't buy Nintendo products to be blown away graphically, I buy it to experience great games and innovation.

I don't see myself buying the next gen systems, the way the Wii U integrated all the entertainment options into one is awesome, and PS3 & Xbox dont have enough exclusives to want me to shell out 400+ (assuming) on another console.

I also find it weird how Wii U can run AC3 & BLOPS2 on par if not better when it's supposedly worse than PS3 & XBox like people say.

the hacking process has already started with homebrew running on wii u :lol 8o

as for media disks, not really necessary if they find a way to implement a usb loader type system like they used for the wii. It's still a tricky method for the wii u at the moment tho.

so far people are able to load up custom Super smash bros maps from SD card when the wiiu is in wii mode and play homebrew games.
With marcan finding out the specs, he most likely figured a way round the Wiiu security.

it died becuase nintendo started to put more emphasis on the wiiu... What is this hype around gamecube that you speak of? I think your caught up in childhood memories and personal experience and being in a child mindset at that time... Gamecude after a little over a year stop producing/making systems for awhile and cut the price in half and added a game to increase sales. Hell the camecube only sold 3 mil its first year... Im pretty certain the wiiu will far exceed this in a year. Im wlling to wager and wouldnt be suprised if they produce enough systems they can outsell that by the end of this year. Also in terms of nintendo, the cube was the worst selling system/product nintendo has ever put out...(outside of virtual boy of course).

And how does sales not mean anything.. A system in a 5 year time span that only sold 21 million units, versus lets say a ps2 who outsold that in just a little over a year. A person not even into video games would based on numbers say clearly ppl prefer/ps2 is the better system.

I could see if it was a case like the sega dreamcast where the production cost of the system and it accesories made it almost impossible to turn a profit...(and even dreamcast did exceptionally well in the beginning) if it wasnt for how easy it was to bootleg games.. and the fact that hacking the system only took a mere tapping down the tab inside the cd drive.... and you could copy games with a blank cd using a standard pc cd burner... dreamcast might have did well and made gamecube sales even worse.

But like i said wii died well sorta...(like i said this black friday weekend the og wii outsold 360/ps3) But mainly due to them trying to push the wiiu. I mean yeah it kinda sucks that they pretty much up and left the og wii high and dry. But i guess this was a wise decision in the eyes of nintendo. Nintendo will do fine. Even back in the sega vs nintendo vs whatever fly by night company who decided to make a system... nintendo was always for the most part the inferior system in terms of graphics and library of so called hardcore gamers yet and still outsold them.

But based on what im reading and hearing about the next wave of systems from microsoft and sony... these systems are gonna cost them alot, therefore they are gonna charge alot kinda like last go around. So come next year when the wiiu is like 199/159 and the xbox 720 or what ever its called is like 499 and ps4 is like 599... the avg consumer is going to look at quality of system (btw in terms of graphics the wiiu isnt bad) library of games(which wiiu will have a huge advantage) and cost... (in which wiiu will be half or maybe even a third of the cost of the other big two) The single mom, the family of 5 with young kids wanting a new system for xmas/bday etc.... which one do you honestly think they are gonna get?

Dont get me wrong the so called hardcore gamers, the single young guys with no kids, with desposible money will buy it... And i have no doubt they will sell. But just with the wiiu having a headstart, the cost advantage, and the in home exclusives, and the whole "family element" it will do fine

I swapped out the Standard one I bought for a deluxe yesterday. I also bought insurance because this thread has made me paranoid.

Wow the hacking process has already started? Thats awesome

also read the system can and does play games in 3d even on the pad....also a chip while not shown in full run... by the looks of things will be a hardmod to play games... plus that video is the wiiu in wii-mode and it is a virtual console ie... like having a pc and running macx on a virtual pc... plus all this will do is allow back up og wii games to run, and og wii hacks to run on wii u

semi off-topic but this is the final cover for Nintendo Power.

360 sold 750K, PS3 sold 525K and Wii sold 300K on black friday.

Also the PS4 and nextbox won't be that expensive from what we've heard about there devkits and there is no way Nintendo will slash the price of the Wii-U to 199 from $350. They are already selling it a a slight loss, selling it at that price after a year would offset the profit from the games..

they did it with the almight gamecube... I have no doubt by xmas 13 wiiu wont still be 350 and if so they will add something or some sort of new package deal ala to include a mario game or something. xbox said they are looking at a 299-399 range with a 99 model if they can get xfinity on board (suppose to have like some built in dvr/cablebox type feature built in) but even still 99 bucks plus paying for a yr of dvr enabled cable is well over 350...? Ps4 from what i heard will have several makes..

So to sum up the possible basic cost of the Playstation 4, not including things like blue-tooth devices, or hard-drives, you can expect anything up to $700/£500. for the elite model.

This is off of a site i recently read. So one xbox would have to convince ppl to break most likely a satellite contract or local cable provider contract... offer to pay said fees associated with doing so... Or expect ppl to eat the cost solely to get the system for 99 dollars. Or expect ppl to not have cable (lol yea right) or a satellite provider, or about finished with their current contract.... Or the more likely situation most ppl will end up getting the 300-400 version directly from a store and not deal with xfinity.

From what ive seen and read... in terms of power etc... ps4 tech wise will be the better system... and that will be its selling point. The built in cable box/dvr/ and a control pad similiar to dreamcast and a built in much improved kinect will be xbox 720 selling point. and wiiu nostalgic factor, in house 1st party games... and overall easy pick up and play fun for the whole family, being substantionally cheaper with a larger library of games will be their selling point.

I get and can understand why you would say wiiu wont be on sale, but i think nintendo will do something like a slight price drop/ include a mario type of game or some classic bundle game pack... just to take the spotlight off of the other big 2.

Chucked this in a spoiler cos it's a long read. Interesting stuff, probably all fake

All three major players are going to play very aggressive hard ball starting in Summer 2013 right before E3. Both Sony and Microsoft are attempting to court in developers to next gen engines in attempt to starve Nintendo and mobile developers. However Nintendo is banking on the argument that the other two jumped too soon to upgrade, with only the top tier of the triple A studios such as Infinity Ward, Crystal Dynamics, ect only having next-gen level technology with most being stuck on very advanced Unreal Engine 3 level tech.

– Nintendo is hoping to play it’s cards right with new hardware add ons and a huge first party push next year where they will reveal games for both holiday 2013 and 2014, a total of 1/3rd of their internal development software. Nintendo has also been shopping around for third party developers where instead of buying them outright, either funds projects or their marketing/localization to make them exclusive or feature packed for Wii U or Nintendo 3DS. Expect more projects like Bayonetta 2 to be announced next year including a partnership that will cause huge shocks when it’s announced even worse than Bayonetta 2. My sources do not think it’s the wildly talked about Devil’s Third being a Wii U exclusive because most people have been buzzing about that and Nintendo is "keeping it extremely close to it’s chest".

– Nintendo’s core first party line up for E3 will be the next 3D Mario game that will be out by Holiday 2013, a next Zelda adventure for the Nintendo 3DS, a double dose of Kirby with the return of Tilt ‘n Tumble for Wii U and Kirby’s Pop Up Pannick for Nintendo 3DS, a new HD Yoshi’s Island game, Donkey Kong Land Returns for Nintendo 3DS, new Fatal Frame for Wii U, the new Retro Studios title which may or may not make Holiday 2013 and two new IPs.

– There was a pitch at Retro Studios for a new Metroid game that I have no idea if was scrapped or if it was made into a full game. I do know the pitch was an FPA like the Prime games and it took in between Other M and Fusion. It was suppose to deal with an entire planet that in a conflict between the good guys and the Space Pirates caused a fracture in time that allowed half of the dead planet to come back to life including the dead Chozoo colony. It was suppose to deal with the mystery of the Chozoo, Samus upbringing and that the Chozoo were more war like than imagined. It was also suppose to feature Wii Motion Plus control along with two player co-op with the new Chozoo partner on the gamepad, allowing more crazy exploration and puzzle solving. Being isolated, together was the theme. Multiplayer is also planned. Besides working on that internal next-gen engine for Wii U and a smaller team for Donkey Kong Land Returns, we know that some of the pitches included an entirely new IP based around the GamePad, a revival of Raven Blade and a reboot of Mach Rider.

– Mainline 3DS Pokemon game needs roughly two more years before it’s released. Uses a full 3D engine and will have a story dealing with a world wide crisis. A new Pokemon type will be introduced (has not been done since Gold and Silver) and while not as many new Pokemon as in past gens older Pokemon will get new abilities and forms. Will maximize the Nintendo 3DS use of 3D, StreetPass and online connectivity. The first NFC game for Wii U will be a next gen Battrio game coming out in all regions.

– Sony is near the middle end part of their Project Orbis, their next generation PS4. It will not be called Playstation 4, teams have started to call the final name as Omni. Omni will reflect their new hardware and content delivery philosophy. Omni will be "very capable" of doing modern day graphics compared to a Direct X 11 level of technology like Unreal Engine 4 and Frostbite 2. Compared to Wii U, it is better, but not the biggest leap in the world according to developer friends of mine. The key is the Omniviewer, a thin, lite and slick head mounted autosteroptic display that can track the users head and presents a 360 image view with semi transparent AMOLED screens. This can turn any TV into a 3D TV, as well as add extra augmented reality information outside of the TV screen. One application from an entertainment perspective seeing movies in 2k, 4k or IMAX resolutions as their original size where you have to move your head to look at the full picture being displayed. Can also synch with the Vita. The new controllers weather it’s the Duo-Moves or the Classic DuoShock will have pulse sensors in the grips for biofeedback gameplay. Plans are a Basic Unit with 160 gigs and just the system with controller at $350-$399 and one with the Omniviewer and a pack-in game for $450-$499. Aims are for a September 2013 launch.

– Omni is also part of their philosophy with the new OmniCloud, the new version of Gaktai. This service will not only cloud stream PS1, PS2 and select PS3 games to Playstation Certified devices but will also allow every digital and retail purchase to have access to a copy on the cloud. Basically, you buy one game, you can use it on any Plyastation device. Direct hardware Backwards Compatibility will be available by a $70 – $99 dongle that is plugged into the Omni that contains a PS3 on a chip with Cell to run games.

– Known first party games in development for Playstation Omni are: Next Gen Uncharted, Next Gen Siren, The Boydguard, Wipeout Omni, Bump In the Night, Killzone 4, Gran Turismo Prologue, Next Gen Media Molecule, Omni Fitness.

– Microsoft is the most vague out of all of them. It’s slated to be the most powerful out of all the next gen consoles about 4 to 6 times more powerful than Wii U and 2 to 3 times more powerful than Playstation Omni. The project has gone through many name iterations and will not be decided on until shortly before it’s E3 unveiling. Microsoft is also running into manufacturing issues and developers not having games done on time so instead of delaying the launch to Summer 2014, they are thinking of "soft launching" it Holiday November 2013 and then have a full blow out in the summer. All units will come with Kinect 2 built in which can track up to four people, all objects in the living room, clothing, face structure and fingers. It can also understand different voices and has it’s own PPU. In 2014, Microsoft will introduce the "LiveWall", a omni-projection unit that will allow game environments to be projected nearly 360 degrees around the user. Useing Kinect 2, they have two demos of one that is a battlefield RTS and one that is a kung fu game with guys attacking all around. The LiveWall can also project diffrent images on the wall, so people can play different games on different walls. Microsoft is prepared to champion this unit as a cheaper and more effective alternative to wearing a "goofy stupid VR headset" to combat Sony’s Omniviewer while Sony is going to point out the low resolution quality and the lack of privacy. The system is going to be very expensive in the $499 range so Microsoft is planning on using a remolded X-Box Live (Possibly renamed X-Box Life) to offer a Pro (Gold) subscription two or three year contract to sell the unit at $300 – $399. The final goal with the tech is to shrink the system on a chip down enough so it can be put into tablets, PCs and Smart TVs so that all devices are X-Box ready.

– Known first party XBox Next games: Halo Trilogy Remake, Chief Samurai by Rare, Project Gotham Racing, Kinectimals 2, Rise, Carnival Park, Fable 4

– Ni-Oh is being completely remade from the ground up in Unreal Engine 4 exclusive for PlayStation Omni. A special Dynasty Warriors 8 will be released on Wii U and Vita, while a special Dead or Alive 5 will be release on Wii U and Playstation Omni later in 2013. Team Ninja also plans on making a side-scrolling remake of the NES Ninja Gaiden game for Wii U eShop, PSN and XBLA.

– Capcom is going to bring a voice command/dynamic slash version of Monster Hunter to the new X-Box. Ninja Theory is also pitching Capcom an Onimusha sequel for Wii U/Omni/XBoxNext as a "Ookami with guts". Ono after looking at Platinum Game’s relationship is investigating a similar deal with Nintendo to publish Darkstalkers 4: Rebirth as a Wii U exclusive since Capcom is still reluctant to finance it. Sengoku Basara will get current and next gen re-releases at the launch of Next Gen systems. Capcom is also working with Splash Damage to make a new IP FPS for next gen consoles. A special edition of Resident Evil 6 called "Final Hope" will be release with bug & gameplay fixes, new sequel sinario DLC with one involving Claire, modes, asymetrical gamepad play, off TV gamepad play and an HD port of Resident Evil: Revelations. The next Resident Evil Operation game is in the works for PS3, 360, Wii U, Vita and Omni called Terrestrial Fear.

– Square Enix is preparing to bring biofeedback zombie hunting game Judecca to the Omni at launch. Agni Philosophy tech will be shown off as a unique IP game that will be out for Omni/XBoxNext in 2014. Crystal Dynamics plans to resurrect the Legacy of Kain franchise in 2014 built with the Unreal 4 engine. Sleeping Dogs will get an internally made sequel made with an updated engine on Wii U/360/PS3/Vita. Lord of Vermilion for Wii U is planned to use NFC cards. GunSlinger Stratos is planning to come to Wii U and Omni, with the possibility of an XBox Next release.

– Namco-Bandai is working with Sakurai to get a fully working demo at E3 for Smash Bros. Sakurai really took to heart the complaints about the single player game and the online game. He is solving this by making the single player very deep this time done by the Tales series people and is planning to have a Network Beta of the game for download the day of Nintendo’s E3 show. This way they can beta test online for about one year before they ship the game. Star Trek will come out with it’s movie version for Wii U/PS3/360 and have a special version with post movie game content for Omni at launch. Soul Master, a weapon based spin off of the Soul Calibur series for Kinect 2 is being made as well as a special edition of Soul Calibur 5 for Wii U and Omni. Pac-Man VS is planned to be brought over to Wii U eShop and Ouya. Dragon Ball ZENKAI Battle Royale is also looking to being ported over to Wii U and PS3. New IPs are being developers by smaller teams for Wii U, Omni and X-Box Next.

– EA is working with Playground Games with guidance from Chriterion to make an open world racing franchise in the vein of Diddy Kong Racing as their answer to Activision’s Skylanders series. Aimed at older kids and teenagers, NFC enabled cars and performance enhancers will be scannable and will intergrate Origin and social functions like Facebook, Twitter and the like. Will be release on all platforms current (Wii, 360, PS3), handheld (3DS, Vita, iOS NFC, Android NFC, Windows Phone 8) and Next Gen (Wii U, Omni, X-Box Next, Ouya). EA while limiting the budget will also bring Pulse and Battlefield 4 to the Wii U. Three new IPs for Wii U, Omni and X-Box Next are also being developed on.

– Activison has two teams working on Modern Warfare 4 with Infinity Ward making the Omni/Nextbox version a launch title using (or similar tech to) Unreal Engine 4 and Treyarch working on Wii U/360/PS3/Ouya editions. The Bungie IP will be at E3 2013 even though it won’t release that year and will be hugely ambitious, revealing that the game engine that is so scalable it works on mobile all the way to souped up PCs. It will feature an open world, third person adventure shooting MMO-like game where the players mainly drive and create their own stories, factions and missions with in the game world, a true sand box. This world will be cheap to free to enter and will have it’s building blocks microtrasactioned to gain profit.
