I purchased Shattered Backboards on 7/15/25 at BSTN and charged retail plus ship which converted to about $218. FedEx charged duties of about $60 so total price for them ended up being $278. Terrible purchase at the time considering I got them a month early and had no idea how they would do stateside as I was banking on the high praise of the OG SBB. I wanted to have a pair in hand secured. Oh well.

Also where they were made is of no consequence. It’s where you’re importing from. You aren’t paying the China tariff rate, you’re paying the 15% Japanese tariff.

I haven’t bought anything international since that started …Not knowing what that import bill will look like negates any savings I might’ve gotten off an app like SNKRDUNK…It’s obvious why hyped pairs are sitting in foreign markets…Nobody wants to pay the cost to buy that stock up and ship it to the US…

We were still tariffed on items manufactured by country of origin irregardless. So since the SBB was manufactured in China but sold to me by a European retailer, they still had to list the country of origin and was charged duties for it and that was prior to 8/29/25. Here is an example of the invoice I saved with my delivery.

They even tried to declare the value lower at $131 and say they were inflatable basketballs to help me out. The percentages totaled up to be 42.3% of the declared value which still ended up being $55 and change.

Anyways, as for snkrdunk, the fees they charged seems to be prepaid so whatever is left from the amount determined may have to be paid by recipient. I’ll need to clarify but it wouldn’t make sense for them to charge duties up front and those charges not be applied. Guess I’ll find out once this whole process carries through. I’ll report here the experience.

For a while Reddit was filled with wild import charges from UPS/FedEx/whatever, and people had no choice but to pay or lose their shipment to customs. I saw insane numbers for a while - like some were 150% of the total purchase price. Decided I’m not buying ANYTHING from out of the U.S. until all this nonsense is over.

Late post but I too took an L on Nigel’s site, got antsy and copped off SNKRDUNK last night before the tariff convo ensued in here. I copped because it said duties were included in total already. I’m aware of the tariff situation but rolled the dice anyway as I’ve never had any issues with SNKRDUNK. I’ll also report back if I get hit with the tariff tax. So far so good. Seller already shipped and haven’t gotten an email yet saying I need to pay more lol. So we’ll see. All I was able to hit from the drop was a pair a funky ah shorts off SNKRS. Might return them to offset any potential tariff if I don’t like the fit. Still need the Tee.

I haven’t ordered anything after the duties threshold change but a friend ordered a pair of Nardwar dunks in December and paid no duties or tarrifs outside of the what was paid up front.

While it’s not Japan, I import Japanese action figures from China fairly regularly because the secondary market in China for those figures is less expensive than in the states. There are plenty of tax inclusive shipping lines/services that have atleast some part of their logistics route use ups, fedex, usps etc. I’ve never had to pay duties outside of the original shipping cost.

Is SNKRDUNK collecting VAT? Now that the de minimis is no longer in effect that’s walking a tight rope as to whether those perceived savings will be all that much compared to domestic places…Considering the possibility of an import bill on the other end of that purchase…

What was your total price? They apparently charge a flat 3.5% on every transaction, maybe that was it? Not sure just throwing ideas out there…
