Can't wait to see Fitz under center in Houston should be full of lulz

T.J. Yates released by the Texans. Of course Baltimore is taking a look at him.

Was Bill Polian overrated in regards to his tenure with the Colts?

Just got into it elsewhere about this, so I might not want to right now again, but before I say which side of the fence I'm on, I'd like to hear some of my NT brethren weigh in with their thoughts.

Yes

Polain was treading water for several years with the Colts I think his last good pick was Garcon

Maybe Donald Brown but he was a legit bust until last year.

Drafted MH, Peyton, Edge, Wayne, Clark, Freeney, Bathea, Glass Bob, Addaii.....I think he did pretty good, not Ted Thompson great, but not Jerry Jones terrible either.

There's that. Hard to say he was overrated when you see those names, but he totally bombed with his picks after the first or second round and then his complete emphasis on one side of the ball or the other in particular drafts makes you question if the Colts could have been way better had they drafted higher quality players and had depth. I think Peyton overshadowed a lot of his inefficiencies. So many of his picks were flameouts. I don't know the number in comparison to other GM's, but it can't be favorable.

Pretty much sums up my direct answer.

You can find quite a few articles out there that substantiate his mistakes and despite who they were written by, the points are legitimate and seem to paint the picture that Polian lost his touch with the game when he took over the Colts, but even moreso in his last years with Indy.

Clearly he hit on some bigger name picks (some of them fish-in-a-barrel, like the pick that made his career in Indy).

But, especially in the second half of his career there, he failed to provide depth especially defensively. I didn't like his strategy of investing all his high picks on weapons for Peyton, and I don't think it served Peyton well. When Peyton got injured and the team won 2 games, it was evident that Polian had left the cupboard pretty bare and had been riding his QB alone for a few years.

Exactly. Especially with one star WR in Wayne who's consistent year after year already.

Peyton covered up a lot of holes and draft mistakes. I agree that he and the team woulda been better served tightening up the D since the offense was fine regardless.

Oh he will JJ. 8)

I believe his problem was the second half of his tenure with the Colts. And I say that because it was known that his son Chris had a lot to do with the picks during the second half. He got comfy just letting Peyton do his thing and win and he sort of semi retired and let Chris handle it.

The drafts later on were terrible. You had a couple guys (Garcon, Bob, Costanzo) from the second half. But look at the 05, 07, 2010, 2011 (besides Costanzo) drafts. :( Not much of anything.

Not going defense on a lot of the drafts and letting Peyton make late rounders into good production players was a mistake.

EDIT: All those years wasted and all we had was one championship. Should have had more man. smh

That's nuts Eric Wright retired. Only 28 and he was just a #2 corner for us a couple years ago and basically a #1 before that with the Lions and Browns. Could have still kept getting checks for a few more years even if he was burnt toast a bunch.

Still a championship is something to celebrate instead of ask 'why just one'

I would stunner you.

Flip you off while you were KO'd

Drink 4 Beers then piss and leave.

You don't phase me.

You're a Goldust/Val Venis hybrid.

This thread, I swear...:lol

I tried to bring up a decent football conversation topic and it last for about 10 posts before the Royal Rumble breaks out.
