Oh look, I only root for the teams I live by fan is sensitive again. :( Po whittle fewwa.

I forgot, I'm arguing with lawyers here on NT.

I think a year away from football only increases his chances of getting in trouble a few more times. 8-10 games, scares him and makes decreases his chances of throwing it all away
it depends how it's done. mandatory rehab program. something like that.

he's shown that 8 weeks isn't going to teach him a lesson.

How do you know for sure 8 weeks isnt enough?

Being away isn't whats best for him, *having a good support system is...and that can come with being away from the game or having a chance to be with teammates to talk sense into the kid.

Blackmon was away for a year and he's on the same path...the number of games is irrelevant if he wants to get help.

Don't make sense bro, they don't want you too.

First, saying childish remarks like that further diminishes your argument and stance on the situation. No one will listen to silly things like that in a serious conversation. You will either have people who agree with you and, funny enough, people who don't agree with you. Kind of the way things work.

Second, it could also be asked how do you (anyone) know 8 weeks is enough for a repeat offender? No one knows because people who are addicts are irrational and don't have the will power coming off of a substance. Trust me, I know. Is there always an exception to the rule? Yes... it doesn't seem that this is the person who is the exception. *By the actions of his family, friends, team and players around him he does not have a good support system. Being it the off season it's a bit out of the teams hands but they could have a simple runner just checking in with the star and potential franchise player every couple of weeks. Just going out to see him, get a workout in and help keep him clean. Players could do the same. But is it their job or responsibility? No. Is it the NFL's responsibility? No.

The NFL offers so many helping hands to players... they 100% all the time have guys who will pick them up if they are too drunk to drive. Why isn't that on speed dial for half of these players? Beside the point but was just a thought.

At the end of the day he is a grown man and an adult. It is no one person's responsibility to keep clean except his. That is where it starts and ends. Just like any other addict, they need to get help on their own. If they, the addict, don't feel they need help and/or want to get better then it doesn't matter how many times a league, team, or family throw the addict into rehab, they will not get better.

His fault, it's been his fault over and over again, he should get a year based on that alone.

Corporate policy does not equal legal policy. It sometimes is that simple.

2 games :lol still blows my mind

If it wasn't on video I would have no argument for 2 games, but that was wild.

If I hit my girl, that doesn't have much to do with my job. If I fall a drug test at my job, which explicitly states I can't do drugs and will be punished for failing drug tests, that has plenty to do with my job.

How is that not clear as day :lol

Damn so my dude Columbus Short should of never lost his job at Scandal :{

I think it also has to due with your demographic/audience. I've never seen the show, but I have a feeling there are a lot of female fans. Backlash would be overwhelming if Short was allowed to stay on.

NFL, not so much.

Different companies/industries, different standards. Simple as that.

I really think Josh Gordon's drug problem isn't really a problem til he breaks the law or endangers other people( which he has)

What Ray Rice did was bad, but we don't really know what the circumstances were surrounding the incident which makes it hard to judge

They are both in violation of an NFL contract though

So you're saying what Josh Gordon did was more detrimental to society?

That's your take on it?

Mathis was trying to have a baby with his wife and got 4 games for

NFL suspensions are so stupid

Robert Mathis had the best season of his career in his 30s and was caught with the exact drug Manny Ramirez had in his system.

Trying to have a baby my ***

what don't people understand about rules of the workplace?!??! jesus christ, people :lol

basic work place rules that get you fired/suspended that aren't detrimental to society:

- being late to work, habitually
- not abiding by the dress code, habitually
- taking long lunches

just a couple examples. this has NOTHING TO DO with what's more detrimental to society. has to do with the rules of the workplace.

ray rice should have gotten a bunch of time in jail. your beef is with the US legal system, not the NFL.

You do understand that NFL players, and even you for your company, is a representation of the company as a whole. You're basically a walking billboard. That's what the NFL looks a their players as. Same can be said about you and your company. I'm sure if they saw that you assaulted your girl and it made any sort of waves, it's a negative representation of not only you but the company because they hired you. And in turn, it can be spun into "oh we hired a wife beater."

STOP MAKING SENSE.

NO, MATTER OF FACT - LET'S GIVE WIFE BEATERS ALL A JOB, AND LET THE TREE SMOKERS SUFFER ON THE STREETS BECAUSE THEY'RE VIOLENTLY IMPACTING THE WORKPLACE.

AGAIN, Ray Rice has ONE strike.

Josh Gordon has been in trouble every single year since 2010. He's been arrested more than OJ. He has about 7 strikes on him. He picked up at least 3 occurences SINCE he failed a drug test.

Are you guys capable of getting this point? Rice, has ONE strike. ONE. 1. A single, strike. Uno. I don't know any other languages to say One with. :lol
