The only way I see Gruden coming back to coaching is coaching college. The dude loves to teach. When they show that Gruden segment he get's hyped up when he's showing the QBs different things or getting their input. Besides that he won't be coming back, he has an easy paying gig.

@espn_macmahon: Jason Hatcher, who finished career year on high note, expressed appreciation for his 8 years with Cowboys but will sign with highest bidder.
To paraphrase Jason Hatcher: "Get me the **** outta here"

Bill Leavy (SB XL ref) on the field for KC v SD. Not surprising a few botched calls which ended up screwing the Steelers. Now I'm not upset that a bad call kept them out since this is the perfect example of why you take care of your business. However two things come to mind

1. How is Bill Leavy still a ref? From the coin toss, XL, this game and PLENTY of others, guy runs around with no clue how to officiate.

2. Just to re-confirm, clearly Leavy wasn't trying to purposely tilt the SB to Pitt. He really is just that incompetent so we can trash all those conspiracy theories

Sidenote, what was SD thinking lining up illegally? How do they not realize what they were doing?

Bill Leavy giveth, and Bill Leavy taketh away :lol

some bolts fans are making the argument the 7th player was just off the line of scrimmage

717841

Rule 9.1.3(b)(2) states: When Team A presents a field-goal or Try Kick formation: (1) No more than six Team B players may be on the line of scrimmage on either side of the snapper at the snap; Penalty: For illegal formation by the defense, loss of 5 yards from the previous spot.

i think the chargers got away with one.

karma for the blown call vs the texans week 1

The NFL said Tuesday that the officials in Monday night’s game between the Houston Texans and San Diego Chargers made an officiating error, marking the third time the league admitted fault with a call in Week 1.
The Texans had a fourth-and-8 in the fourth quarter, trailed 28-14 and had lined up to kick a field goal when Chargers defensive tackle Cam Thomas was called for unnecessary roughness for making contact with Texans long snapper Jon Weeks.

The Texans were awarded a first down after the penalty and scored on the next play cutting San Diego’s lead to 28-21. The Texans went on to win, 31-28.

The call shouldn’t have been made, according to Dean Blandino, the NFL’s vice president of officiating.

“No, this was not a correct call,” Blandino said, via NFL.com. “This is not the intent of the rule as it was written. The rule is to protect the snapper on a field goal or extra point from a direct forcible blow to the head or neck area, or with the crown/forehead/hairline parts of the helmet to the body. It was not designed to prohibit any contact with the snapper, which is what happened on this play.”

sucks for the steelers no doubt

The quality of officiating has been piss poor all year. All these ticky tack subjective calls seems to be taking the focus away from what used to be cut and dry calls.
awful officiating is probably my no. 1 gripe with the nfl right now

as weird as it sounds, you can't leave judgment calls up the refs. they've proven to be highly incompetent during crunch time

need to assign refs a booth up top with video capabilities to oversee the refs on the field

also, roger goodell is a hypocrite, but everyone knows that

so what, the NFL admits their refs made a terrible call and then what? an apology at most? what good does that do? it's just insulting

NFL refs have been terrible for years. The replacement refs were no different, it was just some of the nfl sweetheart teams didn't get the calls that they're accustomed to. NFL has become the NBA with these joke refs.

Glad the stealers get to sit home though.

They won't be beating the Chiefs, Charles bout to skatin' all over that turf bruh.

there is a better chance of you not changing your screenname again then there is the chiefs beating the colts...

Your offensive line is terrible and as a unit the Colts defense is not good, two of the biggest factors that go into winning in the playoffs.

I know Andrew Luck got it all but it's extremely tough to beat a good team twice in the same year especially in a short span of time, Colts will be food, think St. Louis Rams.

@nfl: ICYMI: @nyjets players go crazy, Rex Ryan gets teary at announcement he's returning http://t.co/LMejfKkiPt

It's great to see rexy back as Hc he really did a good job this season w the lack of offense he was given

Rex and the answer in NY though , not long term . he is TERRIBLE at evaluating and developing offensive talent

the colts o-line and defense have looked pretty solid to me the last 3 weeks... the only way i see the chiefs beating us is if they some how were holding back 2 weeks ago knowing we would play them again but i highly doubt that...

Agreed, but who else was out there to make the change? I have no problem "blowing it up", but there has to be a plan. Woody doesn't care about winning, he wants to sell the "circus".

i def cosign signing Rex back for next year . there needs to be a conversation about him really relinquishing power with regards to the offensive side of the ball . i can see him potentially working long term if they can get an O coord they really believe in and agree to dedicate their early picks for the next few drafts to offensive talent (O line , QB and WRs) . it just seems like Rex is pretty stuck in his ways when it comes to over-valuing defense in an increasingly offensive league

Happy as hell Shanahan is gone. If I was to guess who's going to be the coach, it's either going to be Briles or Jay Gruden (dark horse). Going to go w/ Briles, doe. Let's get this hire right and get this team headed in the right direction. One thing is for sure, there are going to be A LOT of changes to the starters on both sides of the ball.

*edit*

Oh...IF he declares...and IF he's there at #34, this is our guy:

TBH I don't think Rex has a clue when it comes to offense. Look at the ravens, stealers games over the years. Marty is our best OC in many years and rex handcuffed him in the ravens and stealer games this year. You can't play ground and pound and positional football against those teams. Go down a couple points then decide to throw the ball, it doesn't work.

I think Rex can win with a veteran game manager at QB, but we'll see. Defense needs major help in the back end, corners and safeties are trash.
