New York Yankees Official Thread - RIP Former Manager Petey Rose

Well, we're all screwed then

Been talking with a buddy this morning. And more I’ve talked to him (he holds the opposite opinion), the more I’ve convinced myself that Yankees should really go after Pete Alonso.

- The Mets and Alonso stories feel really weird. Not same situation, but something feels off like it did with Yankees and Cano.
-Walker is the most complete player because of his glove, but if it is similar years and Pete is 10-20% more money…. I’m going Pete, I know he can play in NY.
-If Stanton misses any time Pete can immediately go to DH for 40+ games.
-They will never replace Soto’s walk per game. But they do need to replace his 65-80 XBHs a season. Pete has done that every year.
-If you can stay at 3 years, top 3 1B AAV, it isn’t the hardest deal to move. May eat a bit of the money, but you know he’ll hit for power, and because of it some team will chase a short term rental for him.
-Just because you have Alonso, does not preclude them from going after Vladdy. Because it’s short term.
-I like Pete as an option compared to Bregman who is same age and is looking for 8 years type deals

The bats are a pretty similar profile - Walker gets on a bit more, Alonso hits more HRs

Obviously Walker has the better glove - prefer him, cheaper, but don’t really care all that much

From 1B: Yankees got 16HRs, 75 RBIs, 23 - 2Bs, 51-BBs
From LF: Yankees got 15Hrs, 59-RBIs, 26-2B. 73-BBs..

The walks from LF are really good. But everything else is mid-20s ranking.

As I said in the last post, they won't ever be able to replicate Soto's hitting in 1 player.

But if they have massive improvement from what they got in:
130 games of Cabrera, DJ and Berti at 3B
162 of all the guys playing 1B
140 games with Verdugo in LF
1/3 of a season with Grisham in CF
Volpe growing as a hitter in year 3. He got better with contact, worse with power

Then you can replicate the hits, 2Bs, HRs, RBIs. And try to make a small dent in the walks. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have Soto for a decade than whatever the Yankees will do offensively, but my worry has decreased a bit. I'm still taking the Yankees out of the AL East

I think they gotta give Dominguez the chance.
I have a strange feeling if Bellinger plays CF and is our starter, Dominguez starts in Triple A and gets plenty reps there. Our LF isn’t necessarily easy and he showed some deficiencies last year. Do not get me wrong by me saying that. I absolutely want him in our lineup.

I'll say it again, Alonso is just so cringe. You can't come back from picture of pumping weights in your whole baseball fit. His obsession with the HR Derby is weird. Really hope we go a different direction. Sign Walker and bring Gleyber back and let's roll.

I get what you're saying, but this is entertainment, and it's hard to root for people you don't like. Everything about Arod irk'ed me so I was irrationally critical of him bc of it. Still don't like him. Damon was the same way. No chance of liking him after that slam.

I’m not saying no to Alonso because he’s cringe or whatever, I don’t believe in him. He’s good but I don’t think he’s that good. Not a believer.

Kim seems to be trending a bit at 2B

Can play everywhere but the bat was down considerably last year. Excellent glove though.
I like the running ability too
