3. During my time in the trainer/racer thread when it started I was a contributor, not much as of late until recently because...well it's implied in my story below lol
5. Size 10 I've found out is my true size with these & I will not change that for anything.
And now for #2. Why do I love flyknits? Well let me tell you a story...
It all started with the first press release last February when they mentioned a new running shoe with a sock-like fit that was very light. I started running regularly in April 2011 with a pair of Pegasus 27s & Free Run 2s. Both shoes were ok, the Free Runs took a while to adjust to(my first free's) and to this day I LOVE workouts in them but CAN'T STAND running in them. The Pegasus' weren't bad, somewhat on the heavier side looking back but got the job done. I knew after running in them a while I wanted more running shoes but started to get a better idea of what I wanted: something comfortable for long runs(I'm a distance person not a sprinter), very breathable so I don't get bothered thinking about my feet, and something as light as my free's.
With that said, the press release naturally caught my eye & peaked my interest. Following that I saw pics sent from heaven:

That was the time of the Lebron 9s coming hot & heavy & while I'm getting all those & slipping back into this shoe buying spree again...I dreamed of the day I could get those blue glow USA racers with the red & volt flywire. To this point I never really thought about actual RUNNING shoes like that, air maxes were cool but those aren't for running IMO, those started something in me. And those HTM racers with the lunar bottom? That two-tone upper with the volt tongue had my mind running wild with possibilities, I'm not even one to buy white shoes too often but I wanted to make an exception for those HTM racers.
Anyway moving on, other pics started appearing of more samples, pics of uppers hanging on walls, all these teasers that left me drooling with the possibilities. That was added to by those hated few that were on NT with pairs & giving reviews(I still hate the guy that had those blue glow racers at the baseball game, seeing him with those kept hope alive for me thinking there would be more pairs released & I'd have a chance...didn't happen, I was crushed & think about those pics)(no serious hard feelings btw, just jealousy
). I reached a point I didn't care about the HTM releases anymore by the 3rd release, it was almost the unattainable dream to me at that point. It was around May by this point & I gave up thinking I'd ever have a pair of these mythical great running shoes so I got some Free Run 3s & LunaRacers to replace my Pegasus & FR 2s, it was over.
But I never wore the LunaRacers...something told me to make it work with my Free Run 3s since those were tolerable & keep waiting...
finally the rumors started coming of July around the Olympics. I literally jumped out my seat reading that. My birthday is July 25th so it was going to be a birthday present to me, I had just started training for my first 1/2 marathon that September so I'd have my flyknits just in time, and I had new hope! I even heard rumors of July 27th & it was sweet bliss, I was on cloud 9 all June, skipped right over the LunarGlide 4s that I was looking at since I was still holding off on the LunaRacers to faithfully keep with the flyknits.
July comes...release still up in the air, no real information coming out. There's rumors still of 7/27 but also information starting to come out about shortages & production issues & all these other horror stories, my body was not ready for that talk though so I ignored it. Finally I start seeing pics like these:
View media item 438137View media item 438138View media item 438139View media item 438140View media item 438141View media item 438142View media item 438143I didn't know what this exactly meant because none of the pairs before had black swooshes, all the samples had white swooshes before this, I had to have some though because the damn things looked like skittles & my feet were ready. That week the information started coming out about releasing on 7/27 at limited running shops and my dreams were starting to become fulfilled...until I called all the running shops locally & none had any knowledge of them...UGH! These damn shoes were like the nightmare hot chick that teased & teased & teased, giving just enough to keep interest up but not giving anything at all. Then NDC was getting them. My shot was clear now, camp on NDC & wait for the release. One thing though that I never really thought about...sizing...and that changed the game completely.
So here I am now trying to figure out what size to get, some said go up 1/2 size, some said 1/2 size down, a few said when in doubt go with your true size...problem with that for me though. Again I was coming from a big release of the Lebron 9s & retro Jordans. In the Lebron 9s I bought a 10.5 first but decided 11 was the way to go. Flipside, retros I had been buying 10s & even 9.5s depending on the shoe. My Pegasus was a 10 but I thought I could have a SLIGHTLY bigger shoe while my free run 2s were a 10.5 & I could have a SLIGHTLY smaller shoe, free run 3s were a 10.5 though & fit perfect. I was all confused, my true size is a 10 though so that's what I reference most often.
Here we come to the week of the release & I'm doing my homework narrowing down my choices to 2 pairs max because I didn't wanna start a buying spree again, have my gameplan all but ready, gonna get the blue glow trainers & volt racers or trainers, doubt begins setting in about the sizing again though.
Night before release I start thinking about how all the shoes I was familiar with kept selling out & I only had one crack at this...Wake up on 7/27 & my dumb *** orders the following:
9.5 blue glow trainer
10 blue glow trainer
10 volt racer
10 orange/blue glow trainer
10.5 volt racer
I didn't know what to make of the sizing so I played it safe by ordering every recommendation & trying them on myself
(the orange/blue pair I wanted since the sample pic above & didn't wanna miss out so I went for those too).
Finally they arrive, things of beauty!
View media item 438174View media item 438176View media item 438178View media item 438180OHHHHH how i wish the story ended there, for those taking notes NONE of those trainers or racers are in my current pics though...
So let's continue...
So now I have my pairs, decided the 9.5 trainer was not needed & the 10 fit but was kinda snug. Similarly the 10 racer was snug but fit while the 10.5 racer fit GREAT. So now I'm looking at the blues & thinking about my other choices: the volt trainers & red trainers. I passed on the volt trainers because I wanted to have a racer & trainer both since they offered a separate running feel & 2 shoes in the same color scheme seemed like a waste. The red trainers got skipped over because $900 was not in the plans for 1 day(that big *** order was enough lol) but now I had new motive to try a size 10.5.
Some sizes including the 10.5 red trainer were starting to disappear from the one place most of us here knew of at the time but then we discovered niketowns had them. With that said I made the executive decision to put in an order for a size 10.5 in the red trainers to 1: see the color in person & 2: to see how a 10.5 fit. Perfect right??? Even that didn't come without issue, they rang my order up wrong initially & had to cancel it...trying to enter my card# in a 2nd time they locked it because of a feature on my card that locks it if there are multiple out of state purchases...that was one hell of a way to find out while trying to place a order on a Saturday afternoon at 2pm when the bank closed at 1pm. Luckily I had my mom put in the order for me on her card so I didn't miss them & now there's another pair:

By this point I've started wearing the size 10 trainers to work out in(once) and they weren't bad but somewhat uncomfortable. I wore the size 10.5 racers out once to run in & got some of the biggest blisters I've ever seen on the balls of my feet, I realized it was because the 10.5 fit casually BUT the light upper stretched & running made the upper feel TOO BIG & killed my feet.
Because the 10 was somewhat tight & knit stronger I thought the 10.5 might be different...boy was I wrong. Took a few running steps in them & it didn't work out, they felt HUGE.
So size 10 it is, no longer any doubt in my mind after trying on each size around mine. Figured the blue glows would stretch out as I kept wearing them like the racers did & the size 10 racer wasn't bad since the upper was so light, the bottom just felt very narrow & kinda awkward. Working out in them daily at this point now, training for the 1/2 marathon is in full swing since it's mid-August at this time & the race was mid-September. IDK if it was just me but I still say the blue glows started to shrink smaller & get tighter, they became increasingly unbearable to run in day after day though & started doing serious damage to my Achilles/toe nails as I tried to run in them different ways. It all ended for me with these on 9/1, I made it 13.1 miles for the first time in my life with the blue glows on...that was the last time I ever wore those things though. My leg was bloody from the back of the shoe & my feet ached. The blue glows had to go. Sent the orange/blue glows back to, never even got to wear those. Sent the volt racers back too because I didn't know what it was at the time with the blue glows that caused the pain but I didn't feel like the racers were worth it at $150 if I was going to have similar trouble & it was a now or never thing since they were worn at that point.
So now here I am, no more flyknit, dream shoe was really a beautiful nightmare experience & I had to struggle through my last 2 weeks of training trying to heal & stay at this high workout level I reached before the race. The race turned out ok luckily but my shoes were gone. Ended up getting some red lunarglides a couple weeks later as a result.
Talk again was coming up of flyknit lunars though...I turned a blind eye though. More colors of the trainers came out including a beautiful royal blue/electric green pair...almost gave right back in but kept strong & passed them by. It was over...until...new pics of flyknit lunars appeared with PADDING in the back! New hope! And by this time I was in love with lunar cushioning anyway, it was like heaven called out to me and told me to keep hope alive lol.
So the wait starts again...I've moved to the lunar thread, drooling over new info again, patiently waiting for new pics, getting color info, just waiting for another crack at a pair of flyknits. Finally the colors started dropping & I made my list of what I wanted: blue glows to replace my blue glow trainers, orange/royals to replace my orange/blue glow, teal/orange, purple/volt, and grey/turquoise was an honorable mention if I didn't get blue glows.
Well that was rocky but I found them all(and another pair) besides the teal/orange pair which ended up being a women's release where I came up 1/2 size too small each time(WHYYYYY NO 11.5?!?!)
View media item 438227View media item 438229both purple pairs were too light & feminine to me so away they went & the orange/blue was more like orange/RED/blue which wasn't the same. Ended up replacing those with the volts & wolf greys & here you have my lunars. Now that the trainers are updated with padding i'll revisit getting a pair starting with the MC trainers, the verdict is still out though...
The chukkas were just fire for casual wear so I keep buying them. No long story for those
In short I've been looking for the perfect running shoe with style & versatility to be worn casually & I believe I've found that in the flyknit line. The way the uppers have so many options, it's beautiful. It's light, breathable & unique, and is so damn sexy. I've moved on from buying Jordans & basketball shoes in general, I never really thought I'd do that but I have with these flyknits. My attention has been directed toward the flyknit lines rather than anything else, I realized what else was out there that had just as much style & desire for me, my eyes were opened to another spectrum entirely with flyknits.
