There's only 3 ways Elliot ends up in some sort of institution/psych ward; he commits himself after the hack and not being able to cope that he has a split personality, hallucinates, and it takes on the appearance of his father or Darlene committed him but that would take the reveal that she has like power of attorney over Elliot or Elliot committed a crime, was found insane, and was committed by the state.
I doubt he committed a crime and all that happened in the w/e amount of time S2 picks up later.
Clearly Darlene ain't do it cuz she wants him doing fsociety **** with her.
The problem with Elliot committing himself is he somehow is still seeing his same old court appointed therapist, Krista. He somehow got his hands on tons of adderall. He isn't seen taking any meds. Nobody else other than the person that represents his mother is seen in the place he's staying at.
Also y'all need to be clear on what the reveal is and what this institution/psych ward/home actually is. If it's a ward then everything we see isn't as is. From the actual environment to the locations. That means clothes and scenery will all change. That also means the whole Ray subplot is a lie unless yall willing to believe an orderly running a dark web illegal black market eBay/Amazon site.

If it's a "home" we'd need so.e clarification on what kind of home it is. Just a spot he was staying at so he could start over and abstain from a computer? Okay then I guess he is travelling but if it's some spot he can't leave then again we're not seeing the full picture and most of what we see is a lie as far as what it looks like.
