i feel like there's a correlation between my age and the number of screens i have to fight through

HS and college, I remember dudes just always wanted to go 1-on-1. nowadays, i'm going through on- and off-ball screens, pin downs. i'm just waiting for the day some team tries to do an elevator screen

I only learned about the advantages of learning how to properly use and play against screens when I joined this 35+ league. Dudes I balled with growing up would set them or I'd run around them. Not sure if we just lacked the iq or just didn't put the effort in on them and just let 1 on 1 plays happen or what?

But there's definitely a huge difference when people you play with put focus on screening the right way compared to iso ball. It just opens up so much and I can drop easy buckets since people don't seem to switch on them, at this age:lol

how folk set/play/defend screens is good way to assess basketball iq/knowledge…so often in runs you will see people just set random screen with no point to them, no fade, no pop out, no roll, they just kind of stand there being they have done their job of ‘helping’ the person with the ball get space, and often it is inconsequential anyways because the persons involved in defending the screen are just watching the person with ball

Wife took the kids to an overnight resort. Literally ate a personal pie and played warzone from 6-12pm. Couldve went to the gym. Cleaned the garage. Organized the attic. Nope. None of it.

nothing is worth your achilles
ruptured mine and the rehab was turrrrrrible

People sometimes bring friends to hoop where I play and I've seen 3 of them blow out their legs already. Every one of them were just jogging back on defense too. Nobody around them and it's always the same. They hear a pop and feel like someone kicked the back of their calves. Just happened for the third time this year the other night. All of them dudes who "haven't played in years" coming back and thinking they're still 2003 Hot Sauce with it.

Bruh, this EXACT thing just happened to a good friend of mine 2 days ago. He posted a vid of him dunking at a park while playing ball with his daughter. Captioned it with “WOW I still got it at 35 years old. Doctors said my knees wouldn’t hold up past 30!”

Then that same day he posted a pic of him in a hospital bed. Tore his PATELLAR tendon and broke off part of his patella! Season ending surgery. I’m sure he’s retiring now

I laugh but I know damn well it’s only a matter of time for me. Patellar, acl, mcl, Achilles, quad, it’s not if but when. And my time is coming I swear. Meniscusectomys in both knees already. Be safe kings, it goes fast.

I know exactly what you mean:lol Torn Meniscus in my left knee that's only being held together by calcium in between the bones and severe plantar fasciitis. I swear my shooting pointer/middle fingers are just broken from all the years of jamming them and just overall 40ish lbs overall from my early 20's. I've got about about a 10" vert, on a good day. Overall, hooping hurts like a ***** but ball is life:lol

But you know you're old when you watch yourself play now and you can't help but laugh at how much of a dork you look out there. Might just be time to start coaching in the next year or two and try to get my boys interested:lol

ruptured mine and the rehab was turrrrrrible

how long was your rehab & are you active on it now? injured my achilles in 2015 didn’t do much of any treatment or rehab beyond ice & rest…limped around everywhere for a few months, it was quite ridiculous

…yup, it literally was so loud i thought either a gun went off or someone reached back with the power of zeus to kick the back of my calf…when i watched back the footage of it was depressing to see how benign & slow the injury happened 😂

it is only an eventuality if you keep playing the same way, haven’t adjusted your movement(s) appropriately, & don’t address those things/weaknesses by strength training…because the older you get, the faster & easier it is for you to lose muscle/strength, you will still have some capability to be explosive but less muscle/strength to absorb force you create; this is a problem for tendons specifically because they need to be frequently exposed to decently high forces…

And that’s why I try to play at least once a week.

this is a major key to longevity, consistent frequency both keeps you active but low key informs you of your obvious decline in ability 😂. it’s easier to get injured when you aren’t aware of your new aged limitations

this was like 7 years ago too but it took me like 8 months. I'm active now on it. But only training exercises like squats deadlifts etc
I don't play any sports and if I do I'm only going like 50%
It's not worth the rehab. I can't afford to be out of work and off my feet for that long.

Do you get yours surgically repaired? My Achilles that they repaired is like twice the size of a normal Achilles. They made sure it's not gonna rupture again. I no longer favor it when I'm exercising but I take extra precaution and really warm it up before I get in to anything involving legs

😅😮‍💨 nope, once i figured out that it probably was my achilles, i did my googles looking at treatment options and figured nah to the elective surgery because i still had some ability to flex that foot and surgery according to my (lack of) understanding was not all that more effective that no surgery…

it’s cool now, to the point that i’m back doing flips & max effort jumps; i developed some wild imbalances tho
