Lets Discuss Mj's Career Earnings and contracts.

Like someone said, you have to adjust for inflation. 1 million back then was worth more than a million today. The figures look less when being compared to today's salaries, but the worth was top dollar.

What cost $88,000,000 in 1998 would cost $115,275,240.07 in 2009.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2009 and 1998,
they would cost you $88,000,000 and $65,855,937.93 respectively.

What cost $2,000,000 in 2003 would cost $2,327,150.81 in 2009.

Now you know why there was a lockout and there will be another lockout very soon. You don't read much huh?

Charles Barkley played from 1984-2000. He made $40.3 million dollars.

Kevin Garnett played from 1995-2012 (when current contract runs out). He will have made $291.3 million dollars.

Besides those 2 years of 30 mill, he was WAY underpaid. Whether other players got big money at that time or not, that's still underpaid for him.

kevin garnett was once the highest paid nba'er of all time... he may have started the $100+ million contract system after the lockout... not too sure but i think it was him

^Before the lockout. His 1997 contract was a primary impetus was the lockout and set in motion contract and salary limits.

The Garnett vs. Barkley comparison (obviously just one comparison) helps to show how out of whack things got in the NBA just from one decade to the next.

The league went from slowly, steadily raising salaries for decades to players making $100 million+ and blowing everything out of the water.

Heck, Hakeem Olajuwon probably sits and stares at the ceiling each night he goes to bed wondering why he couldn't have been born even just 5-7 years later. He carved out an 18-year HOF career and made roughly $108 million. Shaquille O'neal has played an 18-year HOF career and is already over $290 million.

Michael Jordan made $24.9 million his first NINE years in the league. Eddie Curry made more than that before his 25th birthday. Tim Thomas made $38.7 million just in three season in the middle of his career. And on and on.

Hey the money might be there for the taking. But yes, as always, it's the fan who pays and it's the scrub players who get fat.

The league still is out of control with the salaries and talk of lockout obviously is not surprising IMO.

We should.

He won 3 championships for the Bulls with no compensation. I remember him stating that even a $5 raise would have showed appreciation.

That's why his salary jumped, hence why the Bulls organization basically fell apart after those years.

Like damn, this man won three championships for your organization but he couldn't even get a RAISE. Come on ...
