**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

If you can get a late pick for a low value player like huertas or Calderon or some stash player we've never heard of, what purpose would it serve to trade an actual productive player like lou for the same pick? Players have value outside of just being trade assets. Their contributions on the court are worthwhile unless you're not trying to win games. If the choice is between keeping a good player a season or two and either re-signing them or losing them in free agency versus trading that player for the same value you can get from the 15th man..why make a move?

You can get a better pick for Lou than you can for Calderon. I figured that would be simple to grasp, no?

If Mitch is tryin to land a top 5 pick, yeah, that gets difficult. If he relaxes on his need to over inflate his market, he can get a good return just like plenty of other teams do. And that's exactly what he should do here. By the time we are truly good, Lou no longer will be. Pull the trigger, get a piece that will help when we are truly truly good, not just up and coming.

If Dlo was out for the year I'd be a lot more inclined to tank and trade Lou to fhe highest bidder.

The hot start to the season was very unexpected and impacted everyone's expectations for the season. Wait til Dlo (& NY) comes back and see where the team goes. If we can compete for the 8th seed, it's better to keep Lou and play for the 8th seed. Even if we don't make the playoffs and land at the 9th/10th seed, Lou would have more value on our team going forward than whatever we could trade him for. Nobody is giving you an unprotected lottery pick for Lou. Hell I doubt u could even get a heavily protected lottery pick for Lou. Therefore I wouldn't trade Lou.

Now, if Dlo was out for the year, I'd go full tank mode and trade him. Or if we looked like a **** team with Dlo & Lou was still balling like this, then I would consider trading him.

It might be too much of a hole to dig out of for this young team
They might be 5-8 games under .500 and they'll have to recapture that chemistry and rhythm
Hope they can do it

you dont need to trade lou at all this year, regardless of of the teams record.

now if you get a deal too good from a contending team, then maybe you do it... but its not necessary

next year though...is a different story

Why can't we have Lou in our long term plans? He's the type of player that can get buckets off the bench well into his mid 30s (Jamal Crawford) and teams need that

All depends on opportunity cost. Unless we can unload Deng or Mosgov paying him 10 mil plus for 3 years doesn't make sense. Even though he is 6th man of the year right now.

And what pick would that be? Lou only makes sense for a contender, ie you'd get a late pick in return. Going by facts and history the Lakers have been able to get late picks by giving up absolute dog ****, literally the lint in their pockets has turned into guys like nance, Clarkson, Calderon and two more picks.

It's like those Ross commercials. Why give up a good player and hurt chemistry and your ability to compete and develop when you can get the same look for less. Unless you're moving guys like lou and Nick for clear, established upgrades then it makes no sense to pay 100 bucks for a 2 dollar blouse.

Nine more days and Laker trade rumors will ramp up. Mozzie, Deng, Huertas, Black, among others, will all be on the block. Stay tuned...

Lou ain't going anywhere unless he's part of a package that lands us an elite level player.

Doubt it. Almost everything the Lakers do comes out of nowhere.

Yes, for sure. 99.9% of the time, players who are in the rumor mill are the trades that don't happen. I'm just saying once December 15 hits, hoopshype.com, lakersnation.com, etc will be full of articles about several Lakers players who can potentially be moved. Doesn't mean it will happen though.

At the end of the day, I remain a proponent of the Lakers moving either Randle or DLo as part of a package that gets us Cousins.

The way Puke talks about Lou, I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon (this season).

Lou is the Lakers most consistent scorer night in and night out. Lou is the only player on the team capable of scoring 20-30 on a game-by-game basis. Lou is the only proven consistent offensive weapon and playmaker the Lakers have (operative word: consistent). Lou is having his best year averaging 18 ppg, 1.3 steals, while shooting close to 50% under 23 feet, 40% from deep, and 86% from the stripe.

Lou's salary is only $7 million. He ain't going anywhere.

A bit of good news as Dlo's been out 17 days and counting:

Starting point guard D’Angelo Russell, who has now missed 10 games with left knee soreness, was reevaluated Tuesday. Walton said Russell feels better and the Lakers will “start getting him on the court a little bit.” Walton said it is possible, but not probable, that Russell could play Friday or Sunday if he is practices before then, though Monday’s game at Sacramento might be more likely for his return.

Russell was initially ruled out for at least two weeks Nov. 23 and Wednesday marks two weeks since that announcement.

“They told me today that [Russell’s] able to start doing some stuff on the court again, that he’s not coming with us,” Walton said after the Lakers practiced Tuesday. “So with what we’re doing from the coaching staff, we’re prepping and working out here with players that are going to be on this trip.

“And then we’ll get more information over the next day or two when it becomes more relevant to [Russell] being back in practice and stuff like that.”

Starting shooting guard Nick Young, backup point guard Jose Calderon and backup center Tarik Black will also stay in Los Angeles. Calderon strained his hamstring in Memphis on Saturday and is expected to be out two to four weeks. Young is sidelined with a strained calf and expected to miss at least another week. He worked on an anti-gravity treadmill Tuesday.[\quote]

DLo to return Monday versus Boogie and the Kings, a mere three days before Clarkson, Moz, Huertas, Black, and Deng are all eligible to be traded.

Hmm....

Returning Monday IF he has no more soreness in his knees after a few days of practice
We'll see. If this issue comes back again we're in trouble, may be a long term concern
