I am shocked by some of the idiocy people are displaying in this thread however starting with dude who said outside of Thriller everything Quincy has done has been trash.

two worlds that cant be compared. Quincy has produced for MJ, Sinatra, Aretha etc. Kanye can do good hiphop beats and he can rap, both big names, both ahd influence, although Quincy's was bigger and in an area much larger.

Quincy's 100% right but ain't nobody ask him all that. he just sounds bitter, when he has absolutely no reason to be since he's the most praised producer of the last 50 years.. he gets his just due.

Is Kanye on the level of Quincy Jones talent wise? No he isnt. But is he as demanded as Mr. Jones once was for his production talent? Yes. That was the question that was asked as far as similarity which Jones chose not to answer here. I understand Quicny may not want someone else to be compared to his entire body of work which is fair but he should have gotten his facts straight before criticizing Kanye for just being a rapper and devaluing his accomplishments and impact as a producer.

I honestly won't say that Quincy is just mad here but more of a case of being severely misinformed.

I definitely agree with this, and to add to it, on Quincy's new album, look at the amount of rappers he commissioned. It seems as if he was quick to bash Kanye without realizing that Kanye is better that every rapper he chose to work with. I think Quincy needs to take a more in depth look at Kanye's full body of work and im sure he would reassess his thoughts on him.

He has a pretty nice track record, is very technically sound, and just plain KNOWS music.

Kanye just has a knack for making hits. He's young, but his track record already proves this. I am NOT saying he's on the same level as the Beatles, but he reminds me of John and Paul where they had a great ear for what sounds good. With the recent stuff he's put out, too, I'm starting to wonder more and more if he really does know music theory. Either Kanye has figured out fundamental theory or someone else like Jon Brion is doing some SERIOUS work behind the scenes. What do you guys think?
Jesus.

This is like hearing about the comparison between Kid Cudi and Bob Marley a couple weeks ago.

I mean Kanye is good but you can't name drop him with the Beatles in the same sentence not even on some "he reminds me of". Not yet anyway and I'm a Kanye fan regardless of how I feel about this last album.
Are you god damn serious? Did you read anything I said besides the bolded part? THE DUDE MAKES HITS, you can't deny that. He has produced/had some of the biggest rap hits of the decade.
He knows how to make hits.

The Beatles knew how to make hits.

That's the only comparison I made. Read my OG post.

And although rap is relatively easy to create, it's definitely not easy to make a hit. Otherwise, everyone on NT with fruity loops and a built-in mic would be caking.

Kanye has been in the game for less than a decade.. i can def see him evolving (even more) in the future.. why are you dudes haters downplaying him so much?
yes, Quincy's statement is correct.. but he took a simple question and went OD with it.

Ya'll music snobs are so predictable. You'll always just roll with whatever is old, deified and held in high esteem by "experts"... Meet these people away from a computer and ask them to list/breakdown said artists work and they begin to stutter and sound foolish/ignorant...

For every album a producers role is different. The way I see it whether the producer can play the instruments used for a composition makes little difference. Yeah he can go in there and show the musician what/how he wants something done but really what he should be concerned with is making sure everything comes together. Let the experts do their job, you just call the plays.

To me ya'll are penalizing Kanye for having technology at his disposal that Quincy didn't. In that case no one will surpass any of those old skool producers/musicians... For the life of me I don't understand how you can downplay hip-hop production because of the use of samples and synthesized sounds, as if you can just throw a bunch of samples into some master beat machine and viola... a coherent instrumental...

What you have to keep in mind is that "No idea is original, there's nothing new under the sun..." At the end of the day some old head back in the 70's and 80's was saying Quincy's music wasn't +*! and he got this sound from xyz... so yeah... btw Off the Wall wasn't that bad and Quincy has a great catalog, calm down

some of you are taking this whole thread to another level, making seperate threads about it and %%@#

nobody here said that Kanye > Quincy

we're just saying that Ye is nice at what he does and he hasn't been in the game any more than 10 years

you tryin to compare less than 10 years worth of work to 6-7 decades???

when Ye is 6-7 decades in, i guarantee you he's gonna have the same (maybe even more) respect as Quincy

Kanye West is the Quincy Jones of our generation ... What he's done to music is similar to what Quincy did in his day
