Well my teaching job search continues as it has been for the past 3 years even though I had a job until recently..i have two interviews on the same day in Brooklyn for Social Studies teaching positions..
I had an interview last week which I thought was a complete waste of time..(teaching assistant job in an Autistic program)..she didn't really ask me any questions..she just wanted to meet me I think..I believe I may have that job but if I get that job i'm gonna have to work 2-3 jobs JUST to make what I did last year..I would like working with Autistic children..and it would give me a great experience but the pay is horrible..we will see what happens with this job..
I am lookin forward to my interviews in Brooklyn..Social Studies is my passion..and i'm hopin one of these pan out..i mean two interviews in one day..gotta get one of them right?
That's great news fam'!Originally Posted by dmxgod

Then bout 20 mins ago another position (part-time 50% Social Studies teacher) I applied for called me in for an interview on Friday....I believe I got the interview because many of the teachers that I work with put in a good word at this school cause they work there..and knew people..but I'll take it..got me in the door..
I'm hopin one of these pans out..i don't wanna start claimin my unemployment benefits..

This teaching assistant job that I interviewed last week only paid 9.64 with full benefits..and I would be able to finish my graduate work while working told me that they could not offer me a position for some reason..a TEACHING ASSISTANT job..when I have been a teacher for over 2.5 years already..I didn't say anything wrong because she barely asked me any questions..and I responded with an enthusiastic manner as well..I don't understand what these coordinators/human resource people think sometimes to not offer someone with a diverse body of teaching experience already to warrant me to get offered the position..smh..
My interviews today in Brooklyn went aight..I wasn't into one of the schools because they just seemed rude..so I would not take that position if it was offered to me..but I think did well at the other school..and I would like to work there if they offered me..
Friday gotta go to another interview around my area..then Monday got an interview in the Bronx..I keep on plugging away..

This may or may not help you but ill tell you what ive learned so far. Im 27 years old went the route of doing sales the past 10 years becuase the most money was in it. I made ranges of 55k to 80k doing sales and at the same time gettting my degree in marketing. Im currently burned out in sales and retail and want to get out. Now its a struggle for me to find a job in a corporate setting away from sales like a marketing job because mainly I decided not to do entry level work and I have beginner excel experience. My suggestion to you is look for a job that gives you those skills. Something entry level then move your way up. These employers see my degree and want experience on top of it, which has been frustrating for me.Originally Posted by KanyeWestJayZ4life

Ive been on my new job grind for a year and no luck. I was interviewed and hired by the sub verizon company but the training was cancelled on me so i had to stay at my old job. Im still trying to climb up, and im focused. i need Nt to shed some light on how i can get out, i love yall because you'll always come with good helpful info. Sidenote: Where i live, telemarketing is king.
Congrats to everyone jobless that found a job. I hope the best and long lasting money for you.

Funny you say that. I met A.H. on a website 6 years ago. We've been friends ever since. Mind you, I never met him in person. (laughing) We share photos, phone convos, brought gifts for each other kids, etc. We're suppose to be linking up this year for the first time.Originally Posted by akm2tan

You should apply for teaching jobs in Atlanta. They're are seriously looking for teachers due to the latest CRCT cheating scandal. There are programs you can join; Teach for America, MATReC (Atlanta), TeachGeoriga. They will pay you while training.Originally Posted by dmxgod

I've taught overseas for a year and a half right now. My current two year contract ends in March. I make about 1900-2200 a month (depending on exchange rate), no taxes are taken out (US or this country), and they hook you up with an apartment rent free. The teaching is relatively easy, 22 classes a week, and the kids here are usually great. I am taking the GRE's in November and will be doing a master's program. Otherwise, given the current job market back home I would of probably re-contracted for another year. If you are open to a new experience definitely give some thought to teaching abroad. As someone with experience you should be highly sought after. The experience is quite awesome as well. There are a large number of foreign teachers here and you really have a great chance to meet people and connect. It's not for everyone, but it's certainly an option.Originally Posted by marmourjr
