I lived in NC when "raise up" dropped... Easily the best state anthem of the early 2000's

You should be ashamed bro

Couldn't stand that song, but I like the fact that Petey made an NC anthem.

My view after a third listen...

1.) Cole should have snapped on "Trouble". The beat should have been murdered!

2.) I wish Cole took the drums out of "LAnd of Snakes" or kept it simple...

2.) "Forbidden Fruit" sounds just like "The Heart Pt. 2"

3.) "Crooked Smile" sounds like "Lights Please"

4.) The best all-around track is "Power Trip"

5.) "Villuminati" is the Cole we all grow to love, straight snapped on that track and the beat is tough!

IMO this album was a let down

... hopefully the deluxe tracks delivers straight heat

ya'll are nuts this album is great. 4.5/5.. 2nd listen im leaning towards 4.75/5.

its a very mature sounding album. none of the corny forced songs of his first album like mr nice watch, workout plan, or that song where he said " how that feel? very happy"

a consistently very very good album. though the high points of the first album might be higher. this is way more consistent

there are no bad songs, but there also aren't any great songs

Where is Gods Gift? Rise and Shine? Definitely should have saved one of those for this album.

Exactly. No Lost Ones, No Breakdown, etc.

BS - 7/10

Now that I think about it, those tracks are much more in line with Warm Up and his other mixtape material....they were just blended in with stuff like Nice Watch :x, In the Morning (was ok I guess), and a few other songs that didn't do anything for me. I view Rise and Shine and Gods Gift as "debut songs" if that makes any sense :lol Like those tracks would've been weird if they were on Born Sinner, I see it as Cole going into a new area. Apparently from the interviews, he was actually going through depression a bit at certain points when recording the album and you can hear that on a lot of the early tracks of the album.

I really think that although the production is simpler sounding in parts, its more cohesive to me on BS. Even on Gods Gift the production is kinda redundant and sounds limited to a degree, on BS he expands on his sound a lot more (while toning it down). But even Lost Ones, Breakdown off SLS the production is dialed back to get his message across, which is more in line with how BS is. Those two songs are two of my favorite tracks off SLS too.

All and all though, I think BS is a part of a natural progression for Cole, SLS he primarily talked about coming up and struggling to make it and gave us his personal experiences similar to his mixtapes (his dad, his life as a kid-teen-young adult, stories about pregnancy,, past girlfriends etc). And BS is him now that he's "made it" to almost being a household name, and that brings on a whole new slew of problems and issues that he is going through...so the next step is him telling stories about his experience and warns about getting caught up, and temptations, even Mo Money talks about new problems he has w/ money now.

He also takes a few songs to speak about how the industry impacts artists and him specifically, and he sounds afraid to become that (he touches on that with Villuminati to a degree) and he shows his vulnerability on Let Down Nas while accepting who he is with Crooked Smile, I really like the cohesion of this album a lot more than SLS. There's definitely some weaker points but overall I think SLS felt more like a mixtape, with no real correlation, while BS has a much more cohesive sound. Both albums have really high highs, I just think the "lows" on BS are a lot higher than the lows on SLS. Off my second listen this is like an 8.6/10 which is great :smokin

Damn a lot of the reviews are 50/50 on here. I don't wanna believe the bad reviews :{ :{ :{

Beats weak to me.

He should have linked up with 9th by now...considering both are NC dudes so why not?

He needs some of those soulful beats.

Theres been no 'top ridin' in this thread.
Everyones givin an objective review, even us Cole fans.

Look at my posts, look at iLLest, look at shoeking.
We're all into Cole, but also gave our fair share of criticism as well as praise.

So relax with the exaggerations.

Very dark & consistant album but nothing sticks out.

Ppl saying our expectations are set too high fail to realize he set his album date the same as Ye. Normally that would be an indication that he had some heat. All in all 7.5/10 for me & look back in the threads, I was one of the first in this forum under the "Cole Act" so I'm not a hater by any means

Also, on a positive note... Born Sinner has been trending worldwide for 48 STRAIGHT HOURS.
The Buzz is REAL. Most people seem to love it, some obviously dont. But Cole is BUZZZZZINNNN right now like never before. 8)
