Don't open if shook
Yeah. Just caught the trailer. F that. F y'all for posting this thread.
Sometimes, kids need that in their life
Long story below but I think it's good.
I first saw the OG miniseries when I was around 8 years old. I was familiar with Stephen King's identity as a horror writer because my mom had all the books, but I knew nothing of his actual stories.
I used to go to one of those "day camps" in the summer and it was at a karate dojo, so the TV would be kind of on in the background while you did other ****. But I paid enough attention to the miniseries where I was sufficiently shook. But I wasn't as shook as I might have been for other movies because 1. I wasn't really engaged in viewing 2. This was around 2000-2001 and to me the cinematography/ special effects were hella dated (still scary). So I never really had nightmares or would be up all night thinking of Pennywise, until that next year.
A year later, I was away at a traditional summer camp with cabins in the forest and all that ****. The last night of camp before we go home, our cabin counselors decided to be grimey.
Basically they told us this story about how every year at camp, on the very last night, a kid goes missing from his bunk. Then they went into how "It" by Stephen King was actually based on truth, and there in fact WAS a shapeshifting child-eating demon that could take you away and eat you. IIRC, we were told:
It will come into the cabin sometime after midnight and take someone
It feasts on your fear
When (not if) It comes into the cabin, we all have to go into the corner, hold hands, chant "We don't believe in you," and hope It goes away. If you're too scared It will just nab you anyway.
"IT FEASTS ON YOUR FEAR. YOU HAVE TO BE READY. IT WILL TORTURE YOU. IT WILL KILL YOU. AND IT WILL EAT YOU." (actual words spoken by someone who gets paid to ensure the well-being of children)
You'll have your ears ripped off and all other kinds of nasty things will happen in the lair before you die. I vaguely remember promises of rape.
Keep in mind that including myself, there is no child in this cabin older than maybe 11, if that. I'm 9. Kids actually broke into sobs, screamed for their mothers, but the counselors did not break character. They went into the back room, turned off the lights, and told us good night. Left our ***** in the dark for a demonic spider clown to come **** with us.
Most of us did not sleep that night--we were literally up the entire time discussing battle strategies, figuring out what weapons we could improvise, the closest corner to everyone's bunk bed so we can do the "we don't believe in you", straight up schemin. I believe I was in bed clutching a rolled up PSN magazine as my weapon but I could be wrong.
Eventually I fell asleep, but woke up a short time after that. It was still dark, easily after midnight. Some kids were still talking, others were asleep. The counselors were up because you could hear them talking in the back and their room light was on. I asked about the situation and they told me It still hadn't shown up yet but they were ready for when It did.
One of the kids cracked tho. He went to the counselor's room, knocked on the door and was just straight up like, "I'm scared".
Then they were like "Go to bed. It's not true. We were joking."
We were LIVID
Woke up the next morning still shook like a mug. A kid who had been asleep all night (meaning he didn't know it wasn't true) woke up and was like "KingdomFlatbush," *insert kid's name* is gone! But nah. Kid was just under the covers knocked out.
I was mad about that for a while. Still am. I would say that situation had me shook of the dark for a good 8 months after that. Could swear Pennywise was real and out to get a *****. No lie.
Pretty sure it was just referring to the fact that the movie is being split into two parts : lol
Thought I had it starting at 4:03
