this is my sentiment toward drake.  "I can't cope with my success". "I love my new crazy life".

I like J. Coles introspection into the industry, into other rappers in the game, into life in general.

Blow up has been on repeat since it came out.  I hear drake once and i'm done with the song.  Cole's lyrical content give him replay value.

Why are cats comparing J Cole to NaS?? He's NOT even the best NEW rapper, where as NaS is arguably the GOAT (and was in that class since his debut)... Cole is maybe the 4th or 5th BEST dude on his XXL cover...

THAT'S why its all about HYPE, where as J Cole is on a certain rader because of his affiliations he gets compared to NaS, but a Fashawn, Blu, Emillio Rojas or Skyzoo (who are ALL better), you don't see cats sayin their NaS to __________ 's Mr Knowles...

Drake made an idiotic quote... Surprise, surprise, now since its biggin up a rapper that NEEDs all the props he can get Ns runnin with it... Everytime some rapper rides a certain flow and appears to be a lil lyrical, or has some content, you get the NaS comparison... It never fails...

J Cole isn't even AZ yet... He'll be lucky if he can get to THAT level...

That's not even close to being true in terms of how the relationships go... Cole hasn't depended on Hov.

I personally just don't understand the hype about Cole. I mean the guy is decent. But like I was telling Haze on Twitter...I just don't know one thing that stands out about the guy. He's good across the board but not great at one thing, IMO. I listen to some of his songs/verses I heard hyped the most...like Beautiful Bliss...and I'm hear good stuff...but nothing to wow over. I just can't figure out the fanfare he receives. The only logical excuse I can point to is the Jay co-sign.
Personally, and I think I speak for anyone who was a Drake listener prior to his YM affiliation...but you could understand WHY he was held in such high regard. Musically...he just brought a different sound to the table.

He hangs his hat on his lyricism and content...and I just don't think he's that nice of a lyricist to do that. I'm just at the point in my listening stage where I care less about content and more about the overall product and how it's conveyed. For example...Lupe and Pusha are two of my favorite rappers and they are known for being great lyricists, but they do it in atypical fashion. They're in another echelon of lyricism being that they're uber advanced when it comes to metaphor, punches, flows, wit, etc. Their bars are extremely layered and just above what most are doing. When I hear J. Cole...I just hear a dude rapping.

I was wondering why this thread had this many pages. Nay and Time spreading that J. Cole hate

1st off ComeBack Season is a GREAT mixtape. However, it is NOT one the best mixtapes ever. If you think that you aint listening to enough mixtapes. There's a grip of mixtapes that are classics and are basically albums. There's no denying SFG is Drake's best work musically and Cole has yet to match that with his 2 mixtapes. I wonder since joining YM will  Drake ever match or exceed that work again actually. The way some talk though, Comeback Season is gonna be Drake's Infinite/ MMLP or RD.

Personally, I'd take a J. Cole's Loosin My Balance over most of Drake's songs, especially now.

Yall gotta actually give Cole some time. Yeah he not as nice as the hype would have you think (I honestly have seen more hype for lower quality rappers, don't know what all the complaining about) and yeah he's not the best XXL freshman. Seeing as he only got 2 mixtapes and a bunch of loose tracks I feel yall going too hard when dude album aint even drop leak yet. This whole nothing stands out about him I can't call it, I listen to his lyrics and I listen to the beat, dude makes good music. That's what stands out.  I honestly never loved that a rapper needed a gimmick/shtick or a catch phrase to make their work or movement stand out.

JCole has a lot of nice lyrics, but even as a huge fan of his he can get boring. Drake has a different dimension to his music, and that's why he's so popular now. Cole's a pretty good lyricist, and I'd say he's slightly better than Drake in that regard, but Drake puts out better music, at least to me.

definately not a true, well thought out theory. Its just like from their point of view, its like they hintin at folks likin Cole cause he signed to Jay, but if Drake is the equivalent to Jay, and Cole to Nas, shouldnt they like Cole?
