IS KOBE BRYANT...OVERRATED?

Bill Simmons Hates on Kobe, he's a Laker hater

Bill Simmons praises Kobe, he gets used an example for someone who knows basketball.

Funny

The man wrote a 500 page book. A bestseller. He has to know, something, even as biased as he is. And he is 1 of 20 names I mentioned.

One.

Bill Simmons is as qualified to discuss basketball as me or you. He simply has a much bigger avenue to voice his opinions.

You better than that

Land on this planet, want to know about baseball. Not gonna listen to Vin Scully, Derek Jeter, Joe Torre,Theo Epstein, Bill James, Albert Pujols, Justin Verlander, Greg Maddux, Tony LaRussa or the dudes from Moneyball.

Give me some NTers with an agenda and some bloggers. They know what's what about the game. :hat

ONE name of 20.

Discredit the rest of those names. :lol

Stop trying to change the subject. You used a bad example. Just admit it and we can move on.

If I say I've slept with nothing but dimes and I list them and Precious is on that list you wouldn't take my list Seriously no matter what dimes where on that list.

You right, let me rephrase for you.

You need to know somethin NBA, you have a group that has said or echoed similar sentiments about Kobe. They would include......

MJ, Bird, Magic, Phil, Pop, Van Gundy, Doc, Wade, Dirk, Jerry West, Steve Kerr, Reggie, Payton and others with lesser names that I won't distract you with.

Players, coaches, GM's. Guys that know the NBA game a ton more than you or I.

Ignore them tho, who are those guys? :lol

Low blow on Precious tho man, come on. :lol
So we don't listen to what those guys say, then who do we listen too then? The ones that support your claims? :lol

I need business advice, ya know what Phil Knight and Bill Gates, I don't need your input, lemme ask this mom and pop store owner. :lol

We don't take what elite level players, coaches, or execs say. That.......makes zero sense. But I know that you personally stick to your own beliefs, but in a billion dollar business followed by many many millions, has to be some group of people that know things, if not those guys I named, who then? You know better basketball minds/IQ than those guys?
that's where you when I approach this differently; I don't read articles to have my opinion formed for me. having knowledge increased is one thing, but being told what to think is another.
But nope Ska thinks HPV quik cartune> Greg Pop, doc, van gundy

:lol
Yep, that's definitely what I said.

or I never said anything like that at all, or hinted at it.

Reading is fundamental

I said impact players. Try again :lol

:eek Nah you didnt just say John Havlicek, Sam Jones, Bob Cousy werent impact players they were all Kobe's to Bill Russell's Shaq

So AGAIN you must say them >>>>>>> Kobe if were doing ring count SINCE they were impact players who werent the FMVPs

"I forgive you...this knowing basketball thing aint you"

When historians and analysts talk about that era they talk about the great Celtics teams led by Red Auberach with Bill Russell as cataylst....They dont ever talk about the other guys and if they do.... its just a mention about Hondo or Cousy

When people talk about the great Lakers teams of the early 2000s they say Kobe and Shaq or Shaq and Kobe.

Its common knowledge that they were equals during the run

The multi-platinum rap star Jay-Z thinks they were equals

Heres one of his lyrics

'We were co-MVP's like Kobe and Shaq
Left me for the Heat, we were winning back to back'

So you think the owner of the Nets is wrong?

Hov?

The J****man?

Mr. S-dot-Carter y'all must try harder, competition is, nada is wrong?

All I have to say to that is

Agree with you. You think they told me what to think,or have I just listened to a bazillion different interviews, press conferences, podcasts, articles read, watched thousands of games, halftime analysis, pregame shows, postgame shows, debates, discussions........

The only place I've heard this kind of talk is here. Surely I've heard or read a varying opinion, someone who doesn't like him, despises how he acts, etc like you do, but all of them mention the same list of names. They group him with the same guys, even if he's the bottom of that list (which is perfectly fine) but to claim the things said in here, while NBA greats I listed credit him the same they did with their own names, players they played against, coached against etc, why would I hear that, read that, and say they don't know what they're talkin about?

Just seems futile to me. When the "experts" (can't think of a better term) all say the same thing, why would I think I know better than they?

You guys have never said anything that goes against the consensus of experts? We all do. Kobe's great, but that's bad logic. 90/100 people off the street know Kobe's great, the 10 people that don't always exist in any arguments, always will.

Allen, if it was split, I would take that better. Like say all the names I listed, but Magic and Bird said, ya know, he's not that great.....ok, THEY can't even agree.

They don't. All those guys I named speak of him in the same breath. Go against that group? Why?

Bill Simmons is my favorite writer.....not sports writer but writer period. I love the guy but he's a guy that knows as much about basketball as me, cp or ska.

You give me enough free time and I could write a book about basketball.

Add up all of cp's posts and he already has :lol

Oh gosh....now you're going to discredit Bill Simmons, an NBA MVP voter because it doesn't fit in your agenda :lol

He's not even a fan of Kobe.

Kobe Bryant was guarded by JJ Barea when he was swept as much as Isiah or Mugsy ever guarded Jordan

Lol i'm saying man! Bryant stays having a smaller guy on him (Kidd, barbosa, monte, jj, cp, etc etc) yall killing me now with this reaching!

It really wouldn't even matter because bryant plays with such a low iq so many times that if mugsy was guarding him he would probably still take stupid 35 ft fallaway J's instead of doing what Mike did and drive to the cup n play efficient. Ole ball hogging diva!

Don't ask me. Kobe's firmly entrenched in my top 10. Comes with the territory on here. A thread questioning credentials means there's something there any way. I just don't buy people having a platform or even experience always necessarily holding a more valuable opinion - that's not to say I'd value someone's opinion saying Paul Pierce is the same guy as Kobe, I clearly wouldn't.

If I had to research the greatest Lakers of the past 20 years I'd probably not be in a rush to speak Magic Johnson because while he's one of the greatest ever I've never heard one insightful thing come out of his mouth. It's like Michael Jordan gives an opinion and it has to be taken as gospel while he runs the worst franchise in the NBA.

True, but asking Mike about playing ball >>>>> asking Mike about building a team. :lol

I tried to find a solid list of not just players, but coaches, gm's too, etc. Was why I included Simmons and Bob Ryan. All guys with NBA access/knowledge but multiple degrees. That's what I was tryin to go for at least. Players, coaches, writers, gm's, announcers all seemed fairly comprehensive in my mind. :lol

SPro You read the book of basketball?

I'm a Simmons stan so yeah I got both editions. Don't judge me.

:lol not at all. Read them myself. Safe to say he knows a bit more than I. But your point is valid about him being credited moreso than someone like us. I certainly disagreed with a lot of things he said. But I respect the incredible amount of research he did. I wish I had that kind of job. I would love it.
