INDIE Music Thread

THE GREATEST BAND TO EVER COME OUT OF AUSTIN. BAR NONE.

Harlem are great. 'Hippies' is just such a fun record. One of those rare records that anyone can get into.

If you're into Harlem, give King Tuff a listen. He just put out a record a couple weeks ago and it's similarly fun.

Oh yeah... Coexist by The xx leaked. 8o I don't even care about not holding out. I've been waiting three years for this ****. :lol

A reason to finally come back to the music forums

Someone threw the name Sonic Youth in here in an earlier post. Which albums would you guys recommend?

I think I heard one of their songs on Drive's OST and was really digging it. They have so many albums tho. I dont know where I should start.

Also Beach House's Bloom...

Pickup 'Daydream Nation' from Sonic Youth. It's an absolute classic. 'Teen Age Riot' is one of my favorite songs ever.

Some 70s rock/punk

Reading Patti Smith's 'Just Kids', a memoir of her time with Robert Mapplethorpe, really helped put into context songs like "Walk On the Wild Side." NYC was a wild place back in the day.

I know I posted this album on the last page but yeah, this stuff is just too good.

Somehow I dont own Kaputt yet. I'm slightly upset at myself considering it's one of my favorite albums of that year. Also still upset that their show sold out when I was only 6 people away from tickets when they played out here at the time the album dropped :{

Anyone else digging into the new AnCo?

Sort of loving it as one long effed-up jam fest. The tracks Panda sings on are always standouts for me but Monkey Riches is prob one of my favorite songs this year.

Wow, you posted some good stuff. Are you an old head like me? I actually met Tom Verlaine (from Television) years ago. We had a long chat about jazz. He was supposed to produce Jeff Buckley second album before he died...

You guys should post more older punk. I've been wanting to get more into it but don't really know where to begin.
Only punk music I really listen to is Tsunami Bomb, sucks that they broke up before I actually heard of them.

If you guys are Sonic Youth fans, this was a really good doc. I've seen them several times live over the years & they put on a great show...

OK... this is TOTALLY not what i would normally post in this thread, but since you asked...

hot water music
jawbreaker
alkaline trio
less than jake
small brown bike
thursday
no motiv

... to name a few. btw, these aren't really "older punk"... more late '90s/early '00s ... we can debate whether or not these are true punk bands some other day.

The Faction - Skate & Destroy...

Guess who was in this band....Loved skate punk too...I know I'm postin' a lot of old stuff....

My bad. Probalby should of posted that in the other rock thread. Because this doesn't seem to fall under the indie umbrella.

Bad Brains - Soul Craft

DC's finest...HR lives in Baltimore now...I've seen him around town. He's one strange strange dude...
