I used to think having a doorman is overrated, but after having one for the past 4 years, I'm spoiled now. Laundry drop-off, dry cleaning, incoming and outgoing packages, food delivery, guests, coordinate keys for my dog walker and house cleaner--I don't think I can live without one anymore.

I don't think people hire dog walkers because they don't like walking their dog or out of laziness--I have a dog walker because I can't come home in the middle of the day to walk him

Serious question, why do you choose an apartment over a house for that price? Location?

My job is here so I can't really move elsewhere just because the real estate is cheaper there. I work in Manhattan and go out frequently downtown (aside from going to Wburg or Park Slope occasionally) so it makes sense for me to live here.
Any apartment that I would want to own/call my home forever probably costs at least $1.5 million, but I don't want to be locked into a 30 year mortgage because there is a likelihood that I would want to switch careers at some point in the future and I don't want to feel pressured into not doing it because I need to make mortgage payments.
I can currently comfortably pay what I do each month, and there's no incentive for me to try to save a couple thousand bucks each month and significantly downgrade my living situation
