How do I begin a music career?

I do songwriting, but looking to further it and get people to use my lyrics. How do I go about it?

and obviously make a demo tape.

its simple....get the tools, make the beats, or get the beats, then sing or rap over them, make about 10 tracks and bam you got a mixtape, then you gotta put your name out their get recognition if you create something thats worth being on the radio bam you add more fanbase then you start to get the attention of big labels....
but ill tell you this one thing you either do it cus of the love for music or you do it for the money,cars,@*+#,houses and all that...   it sounds simple but its probably a lot of work and dedication
