HBO's The Night Of

Son complained about Naz playing high school ball but not playing for his COLLEGE team
the coach said he could barely get any playing time in 9th grade/J.V . Basically eluding to him being a scrub .

Agree with this being the worse episode , the case is in motion and box browsing naz's facebook ... Stone on zillow.com looking at property histories. ..lmao

Could also be freshman ball...

I came across this theory on reddit:

Freddie mentioned in this episode that he had a guy in his crew pin a murder on him to get him moved to Riker's. Why would this be mentioned unless it was to establish his capability to do so. Freddie is a side character, it wouldn't make sense to build his character unless he played an important role.

Naz has been failed repeatedly by the justice system. If he is forced to take a non traditional route, it may be through Freddie. Perhaps if one of Freddie's crew that recently got arrested/ convicted is going to be serving a life sentence they could claim responsibility for Andrea's murder. Naz is already becoming "hard" he could, in exchange for this service, become a part of Freddie's outside crew. This may tie into the narrative thus far that prison only makes its inmates into more serious criminals.

Hmmm....

What was the significance of the shower scene? Did I miss something

Nas saw Petey giving head to one of the guys in Freddie's crew, I'm sure it wasn't Petey's choice since he looked pretty beat up and shook every time they show up. The guy threatened Nas in the shower to make sure he didn't tell Freddie

Yea Naz is a full time street cat now either in jail or on the outside if he gets off ...I always assumed Freddie's angle was he sees a young/smart/never been in the system type dude that's obviously easy to control/ mold but at the same time not a super punk like petey...he's grooming him to be whatever he wants him to be for his crew

The Indian lawyer was looking right :evil

Back off, bruh.

I'm honestly starting to be believe maybe Naz did black out and do it. Like what happened when he was beating dude up in the showers. Just blacked out.

So only two more episodes to go?

I agree. I think they're hitting us with a euro step. Right now, it looks like the show is about the horrors of the justice system. How crazy and dehumanizing it can be.

In the end, I think the real horror is going to be how they can't convict the real murderer with a ton of evidence based on a technicality.

Naz kicking that dude in the shower was framed exactly how the murder was. 1 soft hit, 21 hard hits. Then he slept like a baby after. The way he talked about not getting into a fight, just pushing dude down a flight of stairs was creepy as hell.

It really bothered me that they were talking about him transferring after freshman year but his transcript showed him transferring his senior year.

I found it funny when Nas made old boy give him his card to use the phone. That was a great scene because even Nas realizes the front that he's putting on.

I thought her opening statement was great, I can't stand that old lady.. I feel like episode seven is gonna be another uneventful episode.

Also....

HOW THE HELL DO WE NOT GET A DWAYNE READE MENTION ALL EPISODE? WTF? DID I MISS SOMETHING?! DOES HE NOT MATTER FOR EVERYTHING THIS SHOW DOES GOOD THEY SURE AS HELL FLOP IN OTHER PARTS. ALSO HIS DAD DELIVERING FOOD WAS CORNY.

How long has naz been in rikers? Seems like not that long but dude has already smuggled dope, got tatted and smoked freebase. Feel like he only been in there a mo th or so. Dude levelin up like its double xp wknd

If my rough timeline is correct it should be the first week of December

And what's good with the brother and red spray paint?

I was wondering myself. That scene came out of nowhere. Should've been in the previous ep where he was suspended from school. Guess they had to fit it somewhere with so other important things to cover.

I think it's going to go back to the deer head. There is a video file on Stone's phone. It lead to him talking about the house's worth instead.

Your complaints grew more tedious, nitpicky and silly as they went on man.

Attorneys on both sides question witnesses about cases alone ALL THE TIME. You must be fuming when you watch any Law & Order ep

Plus all that vid shows is Naz taxi leaving then that dude leaving in the same direction. No proof that he followed them. I mean let's go back to ep 1 did they go directly to her place after that or are we to believe dude followed them around all night. So before talking to dude there's no reason to assume he's the killer when they stop at a gas station nowhere near her house.

There is no sexual tension b. Yall dudes grasping for straws. At best Stone made a pass at her. I saw no reciprocation on her end. There's more sexual tension with Naz and the Indian lawyer.

As far as the facebook stuff and Box, I got the impression months had passed during this ep. Like a lot of time. So it's not really clear when he checked his online activity u less you want to believe Stone's eczema cleared up in a few day

@ still complaing about Stone's feet. I hope the cure was temporary.
The only one that was nitpicky was the basketball thing. I'll get back to that point later. As for attorneys and questioning witnesses, you don't know what you're talking bout homie. And this isn't Law & Order. It's HBO, I expect them to get it right. If you believe someone to potentially be a suspect (which Chandra did) you don't just approach them. You either have them brought in or you assign a private investigator to look into it. Chandra put herself in danger for no logical reason. Even Stone addressed that point. But the larger point is that you're alerting the potential murderer that you're on to him, while your client is on trial for murder. That's not smart. To make this point easier to understand look at things from the other side. Do you see the prosecutor going around and chasing new potential witnesses? No. Detective Box does it while she focuses on the law. The same goes for the defense. Your attorneys focus on the law while an investigator helps to gather new evidence, witnesses, etc. You can even enlist the police to help you because all the evidence and information is shared on both sides. That's why Box casually told Stone about Nas getting into fights in high school.

As for sexual tension, Chandra stating "you're alone" and Stone volleying back with "so are you now" was awkward as was the hand touch.

And if months passed they did a poor job of showing that. I don't know jack about eczema. But the larger point was that checking Nas's FB while the trial is in motion is a joke. If Box is the subtle beast and expert oppressor they talked him up to be that would've been uncovered a long time ago. Heck the media would've been on it, if not him. Look at any major crime that happens now. Scouring your social media is almost the first thing they do.
I know Ravage is an attorney, it's funny because your complaints about the investigation/lawyers scenes damn near echo my friends thoughts, she's an attorney also.

Yes this is mostly the attorney in me getting pissed off but even if I wasn't these unrealistic bits are easy to spot. The timeline of the investigation and the trial are a complete mess.
Ravagebx! I like how you used the bullet points but don't forget to number them because your list was bananas. Now I'll try to convey with one of your arguments. I believe naz getting tattoos and doing crack is how the system can overcome you. At first I wondered what was it that Freddy really wanted with this kid, but it seems even more clear that his use of him is not for leverage, meaning gain by power but I think something more sinister. I don't know so I'll call it a hunch. So with that being said I believe the moral of the story will be that Freddy will have or get Naz killed, or he may even kill someone in the prison all while on the same day he will have been cleared of his conviction. As the show will show us how not the system but our stereotypes of people fail us many times in the court system.
Spoiler alert, these guys will get sued for copyright infringement for stealing the same plots and twists from the movie Zootopia. Thank you and good night everyone. Peace I'm out
Nas getting tats and smoking just seems so plot devicey. They want us to have a confused image of him but they're doing it in a very contrived way. Smuggling the dope in made sense. He was in a tight spot. The actions he's making of his own free will are spotty at best.

I didn't say anything about Nas not playing college ball. I'm not even mad he played JV high school ball. I'm mad they presented him in episode one as as a tutor to athletes. It just didn't jive well to me. I think they're setting up for a prison ball scene. Lol. Also, the timeline was messed up. On his LinkedIn it said he went to Flushing high from 2005 to 2008 and then Chasen HS in the Bronx in 2009. When Box is talking to his coach they say that he transferred in the middle of freshman year. That's probably just a plot hole.
