The Southeast Division-leading Orlando Magic are off to their best start in a dozen years, but coach Stan Van Gundy and his players are a little concernedabout some recent sloppy play.
The Magic try and get back on track and avoid losing consecutive games for the first time all season when they host the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.
Since winning 14 of its first 17 games, Orlando (16-5) has dropped two of four. In Friday's 115-109 loss to Indiana, the Magicsquandered a 15-point second-half lead.
Atlanta (9-10) defeated Memphis 86-78 on Saturday for its second straight win and third in four games. The Hawks, who have yet towin three in a row, have not had a .500 record
this late in the season since they were 10-10 on Dec. 7, 2002. "I've been saying all year that if we can play .500, we'll be in position to makethe playoffs,'' Atlanta coach Mike Woodson said.
"It's a long season. We just have to stay the course.''
It's going to be tough! Darn near impossible. haha
Hawks have some confidence and have some success this season beating power-houses.
I still have faith. Are there any Orlando fans on this board?
Atlanta
keys: stop dwight howard and get your free throw game up! every point is essential. stop the 3 ball!
Orlando
keys: stop josh smith, make them put up poor % field goal attempts. work the rookies.
edit: interesting. Orlando is only 5-3 at home. 3/5 losses have been at home? hmmmm
edit2:
NEW YORK, Dec. 10, 2007 - The Atlanta Hawks' Josh Smith and the Portland Trail Blazers' Brandon Roy today were named the
Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 3 through Sunday, Dec. 9.
Smith led the Hawks to a 3-1 week, averaging 22.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.3 blocks. On Dec. 6 against Minnesota, Smith tied an
NBA season high with seven blocks to go along with 28 points and seven rebounds. Smith is the only player to rank in the top 10 in both blocks
(3.6 bpg, 1st) and steals (1.9 spg, 10th), and has blocked two or more shots in 16-of-18 games this season.
