I grew up in the suburbs, about 15 miles out side of Detroit. A very white area with little crime (not saying that minority groups are the only ones doingcrimes.) For the past 3 years i have gone to school in Detroit, my school is in a decent area but i have to go thru bad areas everyday to get there.

Any way...now for my question. Who are these cats in the s550's. escalades, ranges , 650's, 750s on big gaudy rims with the systems pumping??? I meaneveryone is quick to say "drug dealers" but i dont buy that. So for those of you who actually know from real life experience explain to me what theydo? Im willing to bet they work 60 hours a week at some normal $16 an hour job and spend 80% of their income on their whip to look like they are "doingit". It would be foolish to sell drugs and drive a flashy car.....just asking to get caught. Then again thats why i am asking this question.....i dontlive in the hood so i have no knowledge of how it works. Someone explain this to me. Im sure all hoods are the same.....with the flashy cars and stuff.

Just looking for people who know guys who have cars like this in the urban areas to chime in and explain, thats all.

around here

those dudes are pushing drugs
and there is those dudes that work minimum wage jobs, and most of their income goes to that #@#*

My hood didnt have any flashy cars, none of the dudes who had those type of cars stayed in my neighborhood, they just always drove through.

who knows. Theres tons of different situations. Some driving the escalade might be dealing, some might be working 60 hours a week. The hood is full ofdifferent situations. I got both ends of the spectrum on my street alone.

I find it intriguing that in the neighborhood i grew up in, houses go for around 250-600k, luxury cars are here and there, most people drive midlevel SUV's like ford explorers and such. In these neighborhoods i am talking about houses go for around 30-75k yet the surplus of 60k+ cars areeverywhere. I guess its just an issue of priorities, or a cultural thing. I dont know....the reason i am asking.

exactly.

I saw a Bentley Coupe on Homestead (Houston folks know). I'd love to know who that belongs to.

Well I'll give you my ASSUMPTIVE estimates for __S whipping aoung Gary, IN.

90% = dope sells. these cats drive big !!@ chevys or pre-driven trucks. 12 stacks will have you sitting GORGEOUS byhood standards. 2K on that beat up Chevy. 5K on rims, if that. 3K on paint and interior. 2K on sounds.

10% = Legal money (Mill jobs or one)

The thing is, mostly only D-boys value the crazy whip appeal, so chances are, a __ with a well paying honest hustle would rather spend his hard earned money ona car from this millennium, for starters. Not to mention, when you have to actually go to a real job, impressing the block ain't really that important.

Some people might misconstrue that as being "racist". In all honesty, I think its a mix of both. I remember a thread a while agoasking this same question except it was about clothes. Some people said that some families don't report all their income, thus get aid, and then use it onclothes. Others said that for some families, having nice clothes is a big priority. Who knows

factory jobs pay good. i'm sure detroit has one or two factory jobs left. dope pays good too. some arent smart enough to know that the flashy carbrings heat. some are rich kids that watch too many videos, so they come to the hood to show off. some of them are probably a mixture of all three. there's a certain nba player from my hood that shows off hard when he comes home. way too many possiblities.

Naw man no racism, people who live in the city no matter what race/ethnic background they have do things differently then the suburban people.Culture is a beautiful thing.

a lot of the time its all on a female too a lot of hood dudes have a mean mouthpiece on em

True story...

I was driving through the hood in Tally the other day on my way home from school. Saxon St. for those that know. As I'm driving down the street on the sideof the road I see a whole bunch of junk on the sidewalk next to a house. As I get closer I realize the people have been evicted and it's all their clothes, furniture, belongings, etc that's sitting on the side of the street.

No big deal...people get evicted in the hood 'err day. Except the same people that were getting evicted and had all their stuff sitting in the street hadan '07 7-series BMW right in their front yard sitting on 24's.

I was flabbergasted. I've seen a lot of hood rich mess in my day but that was a first. How you can manage to drive around in a brand new BMW on 24'sknowing good and well yo rent ain't paid....up til the point that you're about to get evicted....I just don't know man.

At what time do you see them out and about. What type of clothes are they wearing. THEY MIGHT BE DRUG DEALERS, they might have a legit job, but probably liveat home with their parents. AND ARE ABLE TO SPEND 80% of their check on their rides.

If it's a new-er car, they may have some sort of legitimate job that allows them to afford it, but not have much left over - hence why they livein a lousy neighborhood.

If it's a recent-looking car, it probably has 80-100k miles on it and didn't cost much.

As stated before, if it's stock, it's probably leased... hell, if it isn't, there's a chance they just are risking breaking the leaseagreement. Not to knock leasing though - it's a good option for somebody who doesn't want to keep a car for a long time and have to sell it whenthey're done with it.

Sometimes, it really is a dope dealer. Chances are, if you're making enough to buy an $80k car, you're smart enough to find a way to launder/legitimizethat money. A self serve car wash is a cash only business, and there's plenty of those in the hood...

It could be some sort of celebrity. I've seen Phantoms and Bentley GT's at the hood-spots in Houston for various athletes and rappers.

Or they could be visiting/soliciting/showing off to the less fortunate.

Dude... you stay outside The D and you're asking this? Detroit is the SMALLEST big city there is, in terms of knowing somebody. There's prolly 2degrees of separation between myself and any other person living in the city.

I had this talk the other day with a class I was conducting, and I told them that I didn't know ONE person who didn't have a hookup through working ata factory. The Escalades, 300s (when they came out), whatever you needed (that was American, mind you) could be gotten for CHEAP. I drove a Chrysler Pacificafor two years for $99 a month. My Lucerne I drive now I only pay $152.50, and that's to OWN. As for the foreign whips, I have no idea... most of the timeit's either a) somebody that blew their refund check when they went away to college that wants to floss thru the hood (but really, that only works a coupletimes in an outside hood before yo +%$ gets GOT), b) Somebody that is actually doing well and bought a new whip, or c) a drug dealer, or some type of illicitspecialist.

But that's no different than any other place, is it? Personally, I think the same thing wherever I go...

Truthfully I see more examples of (a) than ANYTHING... Unless the young'n JUST made some major bread on something and they gotta floss... but most peoplestaying in the hood don't floss like that. It's ridiculously stupid. At least that's how it was in 48214...
