No you don’t eat the shell. Shell is soft and you just pop them open, usually suck out the peanuts and juice at the same time.

It's a local chain of grocery stores in NY and CT. They have these strange animatronic produce displays. Reminded me of Chuck E. Cheese's, but with a bakery, butcher, and a great selection of cheese, lol.
