Final Destination: Italian who missed Air France 447 flight dies in car crash

way to be rational, ladies. its a well known fact that cars cause more deaths than airplanes. so basically we're excited that these two joined the roughly1.2 million people who die in automobile accidents annually. this story would have been more noteworthy if the woman was driving and they made it home safely.

How is that being rational? The woman would have died had she made the flight.
45000 die annually in the US with a population of about 300000000. Assume Europe has the same statistics. That means the chances of her dying in a car crash isnearly 1 in 65000, per year.

So imagine those chances, coupled with the chance of dying in a plane crash.

It's amazing actually.
