Wow. This surely beats Nordstrom's warranty. I'm sure it gets abused a lot. "Hi, I bought these boots 20 years ago and the soles are now worn down..."

There's no doubt fine footwear can least decades, but I would never think any retailer would make such offering.

Yep. You can certainly dye them. I'm not sure if the texture is the same, but back when the Olive Jordan IX came out in the early 2000s, I had the olive part dyed black by a local shoe repair shop. It was pretty cheap too. It was good for the time I had before I sold them.

I think that even if they fade with time on the boots, it would still be pretty cool given it's a rugged boot and all. The only thing that may look weird is the brown sole to me with the newly dyed black upper.

Mid-soles can be painted/dyed black as well. I had it done to one of my Gucci boots that the side started becoming ashy.

I'm talking about the sole, man. What kind of paint and process did you used for yours? The only time I tried painting the midsole was on a pair of sneakers during the whole craze  It went horribly wrong.

I had the cobbler do it.

Color of the sole shouldn't matter since it can't be seen anyways.

That's why you only do business with people who take pride in their crafts. (As I type this on a website inspired by Nike and Jordan...)

There are a bunch of folks who fall under this category. If you want to limit to footwear: Alden, Carmina, G&G, JL, etc. However, none offer free resoling or anything of that nature. I see it as a car company offering free tires and maintenance due to normal wear and tear.

The idea is moreso that the upper should last a life time as the leather grows with your foot and molds to it (initial break-in period). This is how shoes were made before mass production.

The idea is that you should be able to replace the tires on the body of the used car, because it still works. It'd be horrible to replace an entire car every time the traction/threads wore down on the tires.

I noticed a few things in the current Urban Outfitters sale that are discussed in here a lot so I figured I'd post some links. There seem to be some good discounts.

Alpha Khakis for $30

Knit bowtie $8

Levis Bleached Trucker Jacket sz. XL $40

There is also a variety of levis/jeans and different camo pants on sale and some other goodies worth checking out if you like the style of clothes sold at Urban Outfitters.

Alpha Khakis are also ~$30 on Nordstrom.com, wider color selection too

I think you should go up in width for those fifth aves. Balmorals when laces should have the vamp touch back together. Since there is such a huge V present, the last is too narrow for you.

how do the alpha khakis fit? i bought 2 different types of khakis from dockers and they were both 28x30 but had very different fits for the waist

Oh yeah I agree with that. There are those on SF that bought shoes from the 70s and still look good with resoling after wearing down. They even jokingly said things like "I wish my marriage lasted this long"

This is why it pays off to buy a quality pair if you have the money instead of skimping for its fast fashion counterpart.

kinda mad i slept on them for so long. fit is on point

Yup...generally J Crew's 484 chinos were my preference in terms of fit off the rack but I can get 3 pairs of these most of the time for the price of 1 pair of 484s so I have a couple obnoxious colors that I won't wear too often and not feel so bad. It's not like buying a bunch of stuff from H&M because it's cheap, at least the quality of Alphas is fine, no worse than much more expensive pairs that I own, never had any issues with them. I tried a couple slim/skinny fits from Gap because they were cheap and didn't like the fit of any, they were either returned immediately or one pair that was dirt cheap became shorts.

What were the two khakis?

D1, D2, D3, D1 Alpha?

the never iron khaki was very tight (still is), and the city khaki was too loose so i returned it

Guys, since we are talking about Dockers, I recommend the D0 fit. It is slimmer than the Alpha throughout. Leg opening, seat, thigh, crotch, I generally size up 1. It fits really similar to Levi's 511 . It's American skinny fit. Leg opening on 32x30 for reference is 7"
