I don't understand why everyone is expecting an amazing defensive team to emerge from this Laker squad... from the moment they brought in Nash and decided not to upgrade/change at SF and PF (Artest and Gasol), they were bound to be a pretty poor defensive team. Howard was never going to change EVERYTHING with the lineup(s) that they roll out.
Who do you all really expect/think is going to be playing competent defense on this team?
- Howard? Yes (and he does).
- Kobe? Sort of (he has been playing as bad of defense as anyone, though).
- Artest? Yes (but here he is getting torched by Melo (NOT just on the 3's), and basically is not remotely close to the defender he used to be).
- Gasol? No.
- Nash? No.
- Jamison? No.
- Blake? No.
- Duhon? No.
- Hill? Yes (but undersized).
- Ebanks/Clark/Sacre? Who cares.
I guess I'm just not seeing where any defense is going to come from (at least from an individual standpoint... from a team standpoint, there just aren't enough "decent" defenders to even expect that they can find a way to play decent team defense)... even if D'Antoni starts "preaching" defense.
