College Basketball "off-season" Thread (players leaving/coaching changes/recruiting)

is Ty Lawson gonna be suspended for any games due to that DUI he got? we suspended Jules Camara an entire season, but UK had a zero-tolerance policy.

Uk fans better hope Ty Lawson is suspended, because that is the only way this becomes a big game. Gillespie is just trying to draw some attention to hisprogram, and is about to get more embarrassed then last year with Gardner Webb.

Secondly saw on a board that Spurlock is set to commit to UVA shortly. This is a guy that provides a lot of info about Kendall Marshall and the Boo Williamsprogram.

Also I had heard that duke was out of the running for Boynton and Knight for quite a while, but you can take that info for what it is worth.

Ty Lawson isn't the one who will create a match-up problem, Jodie Meeks can stay right with him. Ellington should be the difference maker. RamonHarris will probably have to gaurd him.

"Gillespie is just trying to draw some attention to his program"

??? what the hell are you talking about? and it's Gillispie.

No way dude, it's "Billy G." or "Coach Clyde."

Do y'all call him either of those, or was that just the A&M peeps?

man, i've heard them all. most of the people on catspause refer to him as "CBC" as in Coach Billy Clyde.

i just say Gillispie, or maybe BG. or if he just did something gangster, i call him BGeezy.

not really.

Yeah, I figured I butchered his name, but didn't feel like looking it up. I'm just not a fan of coaches coming in to traditional programs and trying toelevate them into the primetime like they would have to at a lesser basketball school. I hate the whole Crean thing with the pants, and I hate the idea of thetraditional Saturday day game between UNC and UK being moved to a night headliner. Neither program needs the publicity.

It is the University of Kentucky, that name is a selling point. So is Indiana, duke, UNC, UCLA, & Georgetown (probably forgetting some). The programs havehit rough patches but they always pull through. There is no need to schedule a game between two traditional powerhouses to promote as a kickoff to the collegeseason for ESPN. Give each team a few games to get going then let the tough teams start sorting themselves out.

BIG News out of Cincinnati late tonight. John Riek has committed to the Cats! Qualifying for this year may be a whole different fiasco for Riek, but goingpublic with this has to mean something. I'm ready for UC to start getting the respect it deserves and we're back on track to be mentioned as one of theelite programs that our history shows that we are.

No. 1 Post-Grad Makes Pick

John Riek

Some people may not have seen this one coming. John Riek is planning to play college basketball next year and he's going to do it in the Big East.

The Cincinnati Bearcats received excellent news Saturday night.
John Riek, Scout.com's No. 1 post-graduate prospect from the past year, is headed to play in the Big East for Mick Cronin at Cincinnati.

Earlier this summer, Riek declared and eventually pulled his name out of the NBA Draft. He then had surgery on his injured knee and now is focused on his next step: playing at Cincinnati.

"Tony Stubblefield started recruiting John in March," Fatah Muraisi, Riek's advisor told Scout.com. "At the time I told him we were keeping college as an option. Tony continued recruiting him, John pulled his name out and in June we had an MRI on his knee. He had ACL surgery done on his knee. That put college as the No. 1 priority.

"The one that was actively recruiting him was Cincinnati. His stuff has been sent to the Clearinghouse and he'll be a qualifier. We don't know if he'll start school in September or December but he'll be a qualifier."

Riek said he needs time to get himself ready to play for Cronin. "I like the school, the coaches," Riek said. "Right now I need six months."

"He's going to go back and do rehab at IMG and he'll enroll in September at Cincinnati," Muraisi said. "They don't start school until Sept. 24 so he'll be down doing his rehab like he's been doing. He's supposed to be cleared to play by Dec. 1, but it's not a rush."

You know it's true, too.
bull #**%, you see we got more votes in the pre-season top 25 than Louisville did.

bigmouth, i mean, bigmike...didn't nobody ask for your 2 cents.

BGeezy ain't doing anything different, half of our games are on national tv, just like they have been in the past. i'm not sure whoseidea it was to move the game, but i like it. what would you rather the first game on ESPN be, UK/UNC or BYU/St. Mary's...or something like that. (thoughi'm not positive that the UK/UNC game will be the first on ESPN, just remember the idea being mentioned to make it the first.)

How Riek ends up there, I don't know..you'd think Bob Huggins was still there.

His whole recruitment has just been strange.

Ryan Kelly's final 6 schools---Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, and Georgetown. --very interesting that Duke is in final group after never being mentioned at all as a serious contender.

UVA sites continue to say that Tristan Spurlock will be a Cav, and apparently Kendall Marshall's father is saying same thing--Marshall is Spurlock's teammate on Boo Williams team. So we'll see if he even makes the visit Tuesday/Wednesday to Georgetown.

South Florida and UC were the only schools still recruiting him , and UC was recruiting him hard. It paid off big time in the end, but we aren't expectingto see him on the court until December. He is more skilled , athletic, and coordinated than Thabeet was as a freshman from what I've heard. There's ashort youtube video of him tearing some rims up.

Kelly's list is interesting. Alot of different styles amongst the schools on his final list. Hope he ends up at UNC.

I find Ty Lawson to be incredibly overrated.

I hate Hansbrough but he at leasts does put in work...Lawson? Never seen it with him.

I find that hard to believe....

put it this way...nobody's scared of Ty Lawson.

Oh, no doubt. I'm just saying.

Staying w/ quite possibly the fastest dude in the nation? Might be a stretch. That's not to say that he wouldn't be able to control him though.....

not saying it equates to basketball speed, but Meeks was a track and field guy, holds some high school records for Georgia I believe....very fast dude, easilythe best athlete on our team. and there's been some talks of him playing the point this year.

Just depends on coaching philosophy on D and technique.

I'd make damn sure one my guards rotated back immediately and layed off of him.

There's been guards who aren't that quick that have contained Lawson.

i'm going to assume we're gonna press a lot more this year, depth issues really cramped our ability to pick up full court last season.

And, of coure, the Wildcats also make a trip to Las Vegas on Thanksgiving Weekend, the same trip U of L made last year and Western Kentucky made two years ago. I went to Vegas last year. Highly recommend it.

Although I'll warn you about one thing: The arena is attached to a casino.-- the Orleans, which is about a mile West of the Strip. The games are not played in the 18,000-seat arena where UNLV plays. The Orleans is nice, but it only seats about 6,000 people. Better start looking for tickets (as well as rooms and flights) quickly if you plan to attend.

seriously? 6,000? what kinda bull +%*# is that? i was going to try to go, but damn, tickets will be a @*$%*. anybody ever been to thistourney?

who yall playing?

that casino is off the strip a little bit but its a nice one. its big as *@%! i had no idea there was a arena attach to it tho
laugh.gif

im sure if u went you could find tickets and even if u didnt wouldnt be nothing wrong walk around the streets of vegas and chopping it up with other gay @+#kentucky fans that will make that trip since yall travel so good.

i'll just ignore the gay comment.
laugh.gif

but like you said, kentucky fans travel good, and with the place only seating 6,000...tickets will be hard to get. we could play on Mars and 10,000 uk fanswould show up.

we play K-State the first game...can't remember right off what other teams are playing...nobody real good though.

i'm gonna look for tickets/reservations right now....i believe i got the hook up on plane tickets though, so that should help.
