Class of 2001 - The Most Disappointing HS Basketball Class Ever

I didn't know HoopScoop still updated but yea I used to love this site.

HOOP SCOOP'S FINAL RANKING OF THE TOP 5TH YEAR PLAYERS IN THE CLASS OF 2001 - www.hoopscooponline.com/members/top100finalrankingof5thyearplayers2001.html
Zona Class of 2001. One of my favorite classes ever. We know why.
2001: Will Bynum, Isaiah Fox, Channing Frye, Dennis Latimore, Salim Stoudamire and Andrew Zahn. Three years later (2003-04): The UA finishes 20-10 overall and struggles in the Pac-10 with an 11-7 record. Bynum, Latimore and Zahn all transfer before this season. Frye establishes himself as a first-round pick in the NBA draft in 2005. Stoudamire becomes a deadly perimeter shooter. Rating: 6.

Wow....outside of like 3 dudes, this class was like a Create-A-Player list

*: last week's ranking

He played varsity as a freshman at Young the year I made last cut as a junior. Dude had talent but it seems like it all went downhill after he transferred.
Talk about the teams the years you made the squad.

Was Q there when you were there?

More hype flash and athleticism than actual talent. You gotta remember this was the hoopstv/slam magazine/preps/and1/straight from high school to the pros era, where it was almost like some of the biggest names in basketball weren't even in the nba, and had no fundamentals either. There's a good reason most of them never got there.

Yep DC, he was a year ahead of me.

And that would be a short talk. That jr year was the best I did. Blew off conditioning my first two years, ended up being a ymca all star SMH at me. I ****** up in a drill and was dropped. Coach offered manager position but I chose to go work. One of my major regrets in life

but that state championship team was nice. Q of course went on to the NBA, but yall should look up Cordell Henry. 5'10 guard with a crazy handle deep range on the J and UPS!!! (he played overseas and won a chip or two) Dennis Gates was a damn good shooter (asst coach at florida st I believe)

12-15 started out in conditioning

Q was cool, kept all the Mikes EARLY. joked around and held court like any HNIC..there was one time I ended up guarding him in practice...dude had the ball on the left wing and called an iso "Let me play with his ankles" (LMAO, my uncle still quotes that)...so dude drove to the lane put it up i challenged it he missed grab board twice and eventually scored. I felt then I belonged keeping up with an all stater.

Bill Simmons' podcast reminded me of this class. Dude on his show was a HS Teammate of Tyson CHandler. And they told some stories from back in the day

Basically...he and his mom were getting SERIOUS cake from a local "street agent/leech" type of dude with the understanding that he wasrepresent Jon when he turned PRO. I'm not 100% positive on this next part but Gale Catlett (WVU coach at the time) knew all about it and other shadybusiness going down within the program and he ended up resigning after Jon's first year. When Dale Dakich came in, he was approached by the "streetagent/leech" dude and tried to regulate %@%$ about the direction of the team and Jon's agenda. Dakich dropped the dime to the Athletic Director andquit before the year even started...investigation ensues...4 dudes get kicked off the team...Jon gets banned for life. Tried to come back with Virginia Unionbut the NCAA denied his re-instatement. Travled as a "street baller" up and down the east coast for a while and ended up putting his name in the 05draft and worked out for several teams but of course didn't get drafted due to his background. Ended up in the CBL...ABA...IBL one of them amateur leaguesand was putting in work before the league folded. Somewhere along that time frame he sustained a major knee injury...never been heard from SINCE. None of uswho played with him ever stayed in contact with him and we don't know where he is. Neither do the coaches.

To everyone else, he just got out about 2 years ago. So I think he is home

James White

dude can fly

he was on the Spurs roster for a lil bit
PISSED me off that he wasn't in an NBA Dunk Contest WHILE he was in peak form. I hyped him up so much and folks asked me, "Is that all??????/" (In dunk contest)

Too disappointing bc I was telling ppl that Dajuan Wagner was going to be better than Michael Jordan
