Juan Antonio ‘Tony’ Fernandez, Jr., founder of Tony’s Sports streetwear chain, dies at 54
Fernandez died last week in Texas in an apparent drowning. Over the years, the chain drew major hip-hop stars, including Mary J. Blige, Busta Rhymes, DMX and Common.

Makes sense it was big in NYC since it started in NYC as a bike messenger thing, if I remember correctly. My school shut any new street fashion down as "gang related." I think the only thing they let slide was the pastel movement of the Dipset era.
